I’m usually only ever able to upgrade one thing at a time. Right now I’m GPU limited with my 1080ti at 2K. I know I’d be CPU limited if I upgraded to a 3080 with my 9700k, but I’m sure I’d still be able to achieve at least 40-45fps with complex addons which I would be happy with. I do have my 9700k overclocked to run at 5Ghz though. / CPU: Intel i7-9700K @4.9 / RAM: 32GB G.Skill 3200 / GPU: RTX 4080 16GB / Freight Pilot
April 26, 20224 yr I run an i9 10850K at 5.1ghz with a 3090 in 4k, aiming to maintain 50fps. In extremely complex weather the GPU can still max out, dropping to render scale 95 tends to keep fps solid at 50fps throughout with little noticeable image deterioration. April 26, 20224 yr Moderator I used the link provided by Maladoror, thanks. It tells me my 1080Ti is the weaker component compared to my i7-8086K running at 5.0Ghz. I run at 3840*2160 @ 30Hz natively. Given the age of the 1080Ti it doesn’t surprise me. I’d always been put off buying a 2000 series card because it would mean dropping to 8Gb VRAM from the 11 the 1080Ti has. But now that the 3080Ti has 12Gb that problem disappears. My only question is will the 3080Ti accept the same connections as the 1080Ti? The size seems okay and I have a 750W gold power supply. Ray (Cheshire, England). April 26, 20224 yr I went from 1080ti strix to 3090 strix and had to add extra 8 pin cable. Don't know about 3080ti. Also I think, it depends on model. Some have 3x8 pin and some 2x8 pin. April 26, 20224 yr Commercial Member Intel Core i9-9900K is too weak for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 on 2560 × 1440 pixels screen resolution for Processor Intense Tasks. This configuration has 14.5% of processor bottleneck . When playing games your graphic card won't perform on maximum possible performances (won't be utilized to the maximum), because you processor won't process and deliver data fast enough. This theoretically means that utilization of you processor will be on maximum and the potencial of graphic card will not be completely used. Also, this is interesting, not sure how accurate... https://pc-builds.com/compare/cpu/0RM/1cn/?game=1Z Edited April 26, 20224 yr by iFlySimX Discord | YouTube | iFly Schedules 34" Odyssey OLED G8 175Hz | 3440X1440 | AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D | PNY VERTO OC GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB | G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 | Asus ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 | Samsung 990 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 | ARCTIC Liquid Freezer III 56.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler | Fractal Design North XL ATX Full Tower Case

Pretty sure it does not matter, because most PSUs have 6+2 pin connectors for PCI-E. So, even if your 1080ti uses "only" two 6 pin connectors, it should work, as the +2 pins are available on the cable (just not used now). Other than that, without knowing the exact model of your 1080ti, nobody can tell you what connections it uses... My factory overclocked 1080Ti GPUs use two 8-pin connectors, as does my 2080Ti and my 3090. Some of the overclocked 3090s use three 8-pin connectors. I think I remember some of the 1080Ti boards using one 8-pin and one 6-pin connector. April 26, 20224 yr Still think the 1080ti is a superb card, never had problems in 2k ultra with my i9 11900k, however my next card could be the 3080ti, the prices are getting sweeter, maybe in May could drop to $1100 or 1200? Alexander Colka
