Grand Caravan for FSX

  1. Started by cad913,

Hi guy's, When doing an ILS approach in the caravan I sometimes notice that the aircraft begins diving several miles from the runway threshold. It is almost like it is following a glideslope as it is usually around a 500ft/min descent but takes place well before the runway. Anyone experiencing this as I can't find much info on the forum/internet. Thanks Lee

As I recall, a bit after the Caravan was released, some customer mods to correct ITT readings and so forth were made (these aren't Bernt Stolle's mods - I have those). I recently had to do a reinstall of the aircraft but those mods have gone MIA. Does anyone have those and would it be possible to obtain them for myself again please? Thanks much! Glenn

Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place... I have both versions of Carenado's Caravan. The original model plus CargoMaster expansion seems to run perfectly fine, whereas the EX HD version doesn't. Whenever I load the EX HD Caravan into FSX, within a few minutes (3-5 minutes at the most) the sound freezes, Win 7 crashes and I get a blue screen. Every single time. This does not occur with any other installed add-on aircraft, only with the C-208 EX HD. My FSX PC is brand new, and seems powerful enough that it shouldn't be the issue - Win 7 Pro (64 bit), 8GB RAM, GTX 770 (2GB RAM), Intel® Core i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz (NO OC), 1TB HDD. UAC off. FSX Gold with Accel…

Hi there Caravan drivers. The C208B should have been my first leap into the GA game, but I had quite a surpise, when I learnt that getting either the stock GPS that comes with the Caravan, OR the 50$ RXP addon, updatet to match RW AIRACs are virtually unsupported???? I see in the RXP forum, that from time to time a more or less functional fix is presented, for at the prices we are talking about here, I feel that this should be updated without hazzle by either Navdate Pro or Navigraph... I simply wanted to check with you, the customers, that this is true??? If not, how do you operate the AC flying rw RNAV approaches - lot's of them must not be present in the st…

Have had the mindstar working fine in other aircrafts, but for some reason, when switching to NAV mode on the AP, the caravan wonders of in some strange direction... The default carenado gns430 is commented out from vcockpit3 in panel.cfg, so something else is preventing the Mindstar from driving the AP in NAV mode. CDI of course set to GPS, and the corresponding switch in the caravan cockpit follows this and thus is also set to gps... This is prepar3d v2.4...

Purchased the Grand Caravan yesterday and made my maiden flight with the A/C today (KBIL to KGFK). I found that this plane is easy to hand fly, more so than my other Carenado aircraft, the C-182G. Nice job, Carenado. My question relates to the GNS430. Unless I'm mistaken, this gps, unlike the default FSX GPS500, doesn't appear to have a "north at the top" mode in map view. The only map view that I could see was where the plane symbol is facing "up" no matter which direction you are actually heading. Is this correct, or is there a button, or setting, I'm overlooking? Or is this the only view you get with the GNS430? Perhaps this emulates the real world GNS430?Thank…

  9. Hello all, before I take this to Carenado forum (which I am not registered) I would like to know if anyone has seen this issue. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong but when I set up autoflight, I set altitude to i.e 9000 and set vs to 1000 ft. The plane climbs to altitude and then for no reason, drops. Then it will start to climb and yet again, drop. Has anyone seen this on this aircraft? I certainly do not have this issue with other planes.

  10. OK this is a new one to me. I think I need an aircarft mechnic. I have been flying the C208 for years and all of a sudden today it wont fire the engine. I mean the starter sound is there and I have normal indications but the engine wont start. It sounds as if I am out of gas but the tanks are full and I am moving the condition lever to mid way after a few seconds.... This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. no other AC in my hanger has this problem. Also, to make matters more strange if I start a difference AC and then switch to the C208 the engine is running and if I kill the engine and try to restart it it starts right up. The only thing I did was make a smal…

Just bought the C208 EX from PC Aviator, and did the download and install. Never once was I asked to register the aircraft. Is there any "protection" on this aircraft, or does it just work when installed? I also can't get it started - followed the pre-flight, and got some sounds when I first threw the switch, but now the whole cockpit seems to have gone dead - no power to the avionics or anything. I have several A2A aircraft that need to visit the hangar from time to time to fix things like dead batteries, but can't find anything like this for the Carenado Caravan. Running FSX, ASN and registered FSUIPC.

I spent a little time with the blank textures this afternoon and created my first Caravan paint: a C208B as flown by Kenmore Air in the Pacific Northwest of the US/Canada. Here are some preliminary shots. There are a couple of niggles to fix first, then I'll upload it to my site and publicize the link.

Does anyone know if the real caravan shuts down when the prop is placed in the feather position on the ground. Or do you have to use a combination of feather and fuel shut off with the fuel lever. I was looking at the engine shutdown procedure and they say to shutdown engine using the feather position to stop the engine from rotating excessively during shutdown. I was not sure if its really a two step process. First increase blade angle to high using prop lever (Feather) then use the fuel shut off to kill the engine. Then when the engine stops the blade angle being high keeps the prop from excessive rotation during shut down. I have to use the Ctrl F2 key to drive pr…

Hi Folks, Just a generic question on the use of Emergency Power Lever on the 208... What exactly does it do and when/how exactly would you use it - I get the in an "Emergency" part - LOL - more specifics please... This is the only plane I recall seeing one in and you can already over torque the engine just by slamming the throttle wide open... Is it implemented correctly in the FDE ??? Regards, Scott

Hi Folks, I'm using the FS9 version of the Caravan and the FDE is awful... Are Bernt's FDE's available somewhere - I've searched but I can't find them... I'd like to attempt to port it to FS9... I'll gladly as Bernt but I think he dropped off from here - right ? Regards, Scott

Hi Folks, I recently purchased the 208 for FS9 - yeah - there are still a few of us... The visual model is beautiful - as always... The FDE - eh - seems marginal at best... The plane is difficult to fly by the numbers and it SPRINGS into the air at 80 knots... Even with full back on the elevator - the nose won't even start to rotate until 80 knots... You should able to lift the nose by 70 knots... Then way too suddenly - you are climbing like a bat out of hell... If you fly the recommended approach speed - you're way behind the power curve and the nose pitches up as if you are not generating enough lift... So - can someone compare notes with me on the performance …

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qqnkathu6zY Does anyone know which product the guy in the above video uses? I have the Carenado C208B GrandCaravan HD Series 8 for FSX but the c208 shown in the video has more functions and useable switches than mine. E.g.: My propeller lever can not be set to the 'feather' position. Of the 3 test switches in my aircraft only the black one in the middle works, the white on the right side and the red on the left side are not animated. My fuel boost switch has just two positions, the one in the video has three as it would be in reality. What aircraft is used in the video. Any idea? Thanks for help.

  22. Hello,I'd like to switch between the output of the AP ALT and the AP V/S by using a keyboard shortcut. My first idea was to use FSUIPC but I couldn't find anything useful by using FSUIPC logging facillity. Has someone an idea how I could do this? I have attached a small picture to show what I mean. Thanks, Torsten
