I thought more about the procedural/shader approach for depicting the various seasons/weather changes in scenery ( it was mentioned in another thread, more info and pics here: http://www.flightgear.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=18603 ) and, IMHO, Laminar Research should start developing it ASAP and hence abandon the "classic" seasonal textures approach at once. I can only see advantages of the procedural approach compared to the "classic" one, especially given the peculiar characteristics of X-Plane development: 1) procedural approach requires at most 1 single coder (and maybe 1 artist), while the classic approach requires a lot more "brute" work and hence a…

I'm new to x-plane and i was hoping someone can help me... I came from FSX and while you're in 'chase' view and you roll either left or right it's your craft that does the rolling not the surrounding scenery like in x-plane. My question is: Is it possible to set it so that when i bank left and right it's my plane that does the banking and not stay static and the scenery moves ? Thanks for the answers in advance ! B)

Well, another thread on flight models for those interested (for those not interested in FM discussions, just move beyond  ) I recently tried Aerofly FS. If I remember correctly, in the past it has been praised by RW pilots on these forums, for giving a realistic sensation of flight. Well, I tried the various aircrafts of Aerofly FS (with joystick sensitivity to max, that should give a realistic max control deflection), and the general sensation I get is that its flight models are more similar, I'd say significant more similar (in their feeling) to those of X-Plane rather than FSX. Unfortunately there are no twins on Aerofly FS, but e.g. the C172 is not …

Now many of you will think that I am posting this in the wrong XP forum and that I should be posting in the scenery design forum, but the thing is that I am trying to reach people who don't normally hang out there. If many of you are like me you'd probably like to know at least a little bit about this subject, at least on a level that would let you correct oh-oh's from a not entirely successful conversion of an MSFS scenery product, or maybe you just want to correct some flaws in or around a downloaded X-Plane freeware file, maybe squash some trees sprouting up from a runway or eliminate some skyscrapers from your short final approach path. Well, if this describes yo…

The more I use XP, the more I enjoy the simplicity of things. Today for instance, I wanted to install an instrument package on a network PC, for my C172 MIP display. I unzipped the package onto the client PC desktop and moved a folder into the plugins folder of XP. Started the instruments, opened the config window and entered the IP of the machine where XP is installed. I then ran XP, went to plugins and selected the option for the instruments package. There, I entered the IP of the client PC. Done! Everything was working! Didn't have to purchase a 3rd party software to enable communication between the sim and other PCs on the network. Nor did I need t…

I replaced the original clouds textures to see how the system works. X-Plane uses different textures to depict cloud puffs at various distances. That's the reason you see rings of different colors around the aircraft. The weather in the image is overcast with MINIMUM cloud puffs density! (10%). Marco

In another thread, tf51 posted this RL video of an A330 landing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hn7Rmgmi_4 It made me notice something interesting: if you look at the video, you'll see that the flight is very (for lack of a better word) "slippery": there are continuous and smooth movements around the three axes, very noticeable. Now compare that to this video (of tf51 himself) with the 757 in X-Plane: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf0MFG60cP4&feature=player_detailpage#t=120s And another video with X-Plane: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XUS6YJH5Ss&feature=player_detailpage#t=37s To me, it seems that the continuous, slippery, smooth movements are very similar…

  12. hi first sorry for the english i am quiet new on x plane, i got it few weeks ago but i don't play it because of performance issues, see my last topic here : http://forum.avsim.n...new-on-x-plane/ as you see i am saying that i get very low frames with clouds, but something weird (but good) happened when i tried again the game this week, clouds were not causing any performance issues now, i had 140 fps on ocean 60-80 fps on continents. The only thing different compared before is that i am using new nvidia drivers (313,96) but my issues are not completely resolved: scenery objects and autogens are overkilling my gpu (=gtx660) i don't know why, my gpu max temps are onl…

Just as you can use Art Stab to overcome the overdone torque roll effect, as I mentioned earlier today on a couple of posts showing screens of PM with the tweak applied to the default Baron58, you can also get a better performance on ground roll under x-wind using the very same tab. In the screen bellow see what can be done, and will be active up to 60 KIAS, on the default C172, so that when you have a x-wind component during taxi or takeoff you don't have to fight it as bad.... Notice that contrarily to what was done to soften torque roll, we should use the LOW SPEED SYSTEM in this case because the effect we're dealing with is more problematic while we're still o…

  14. Wow, I bought X-Plane 10 Global tonight, after dinking around with it for a very short time, I was STUNNED to see how smoothly it ran "right out of the box" in 64-bits! It comes in both 32 & 64 bit versions, but if you have a newer PC, you will undoubtedly want to play in the 64-bit 'beta' world (release 10.20). I was floored when I saw how good the overall experience was with ZERO add-ons. It is far superior to FSX au-natural - the vehicles and roads and overall scenery in X-Plane 10 demo area of Seattle, USA are simply incredible. The Space Needle at Seattle in XPX is very detailed and well-rendered, the rain and lightning effects are great, and you don't have t…

South Florida, real weather, winds 12 knots gusting 21 in 10.20beta, Saratoga by Jason Chandler. Plane moves sideways on the runway wind blows 70 degrees from the right. Could not keep plane on the runway, take off from the green. Once airborn, plane felt like riding a big dipper. Frustrating.

I've been watching and reading this forum regularly since Xplane10 first came out. I'm mightily impressed with how much more popular this sub-forum has become. I remember early last year that posts seem to average out at about three per day - with an occasional burst of activity around major X-plane news. Now looking that the posts there hasn't been any major x-plane news for some time, but the post activity is much higher on the X-Plane sub-forum these days. I've given up counting the number of posts for today and yesterday, but there's plenty of topics to engage discussion in. If I was an x-plane developer I'd find this rather heartening.

Hi, let's say the sim is between 10 and 60 FPS depending if there are clouds, or if I use the 2D mode etc... X-Plane does always keep my GPU fans blowing in my settings. It's a PC with a GTX-570. The ridiculous part of it, it even uses full GPU power if sim is paused. Also it uses 30% CPU if paused. #####. How can I quickly save power? I mean, sometimes I pause the sim or do something else while AP engaged (don't hit me ), then I don't need eye candy... Also I think the GTX570 will consume a lot energy... Ideas? I could e..g. suspend the x-plane.exe process, but I'm afraid it does not survive properly. TIA Michael

  19. Ok, as per Efrain's request here we go. System matching does not matter one bit, as long as the user is comparing apples to apples on their own machine. I could care less about comparing high end systems to low end, or systems running 19" monitors to guys with upcoming wrap around screens like Efrain. As long as the individuals tests are equal, apples to apples, that's all that matters. So, scenery could have been an issue, other than the fact that everyone has KSEA, Seattle, with a Xplane install. So I did my "static" tests sitting on runway 16L in the default Cessna 172, no weather (clear) and daylight from the main menu when starting. I used X-Plane 10.2 Beta 1…

Hi everyone, This is more of a inquiry / rant to see if I'm doing anything wrong here.. I have a new Windows7 64bit system with i7 3770 running at 4.4ghz, I had a Nvidia GTX560ti 2Gb card. I just went and dropped over $500.00 on a GTX670 4GB video card. I also run 16gigs ram and Nvidia inspector ..setup with nicks suggestions, which does help, but still not satisfied...yet. I see others using xplane 10 almost cranked out with great performance. If I even try to use shadows on aircraft, hdr, I get 27 to 32fps, but not smooth at all if there is any scenery involved EX KLGA or KPHL etc.... I have tweaked my system to most recent suggestions. I run 32bit Vers. 10.11 as I …

  22. Hi all I am thinking of buying a new payware add-on. I have most of the top tier stuff. Beach duchess, falco, MU2. I was wondering which planes mostly work with xpx 64, the 337 doesn't yet, which is frustrating, but i was wondering if some of the older//less complex ones do. I am looking for a speedy twin or single that's full IFR. If you know of any others too, I would love to hear about them. Thanks

  24. As the header states, I did what I never thought I would do again, I have the newest (non-demo) version of XP installed on my PC. After the first few hours I like to share my thoughts: The first time was spend to find balanced settings and get my joystick running. I have installed the payware MU-2 that I owned from my XP9 episode. Next installation was the Canadian Rockies payware. Went to that great landscape and found out that UTX/REX and ORBX have given me high expectations, the XP CAN Rockies did not even come close. Had a look at the "default" plausible world. Better than XP9 but still horror. But I did not had the intention to install and test it to say "how…
