  1. Folks, I love the water in XP...and usually have it on either Advanced, or Complete. Having said that though...you will see none of the visual benefits of those two settings much over 2,800-3,500 AGL. So...here's the tip...as you climb through 4,000 feet, (assuming you are near and viewing water bodies)...take a moment in-flight, to go to Rendering, and turn off water reflections to NONE. You will instantly in most cases pick up 5-7 FPS! If you are near no water bodies at all, on, or near the ground, (deserts, Midwest, blah, blah) turn off water reflections to NONE as you do your pre-flight. The reason is...that it is a FPS hit, even if you are not viewing w…

  5. I'm looking for a plug-in like FSUIPC that allows you to configure your controllers by airplane and by controller. FSUIPC allows you to assign pitch, bank, and yaw and tweak the settings. I need to do this for each plane I fly in X-Plane 10. Thanks. Jose

In follow up to the Norwegian scenery post here, I've created a seperate topic for progress here on the Denmark scenery. Unfortunately I had to remove the initial test download as there was some problems with poor FPS in Copenhagen (..and I would guess almost everyone would do their first flight from here)., and also the initial release caused the hosting server to run over its daily bandwidth limit. I spent some time yesterday looking through the scenery to identify how I can improve performance, and I've made the following changes: - Optimised the tree set used so that they can use hardware instancing (Which lets thousands of repeated objects draw with…

  7. I just finished a two hour real-time flight with the Cirrus 22 turbo, and loved every minute of it. As I was shutting down the session, it made me think and appreciate how much, the XP franchise has blossomed into such a fabulous flight sim platform, with aircraft, offered from each new enthusiast/commercial, and commercial scenery releases, as well as enthusiast, and commercial flight environment releases. I always say so, and do...fly each platform that I have installed, but really...if it came down to the crunch of flight numbers...really, it would have to be reported that XPX.41's start button gets pressed over all others. The sim is graphically gorgeous, bei…

Maybe I'm being pedantic, but does anyone else have the same problem I have with the airport search box on the startup screen?. The airport it selects when you type in a name is rarely the correct one, and it's very easy to not think and hit Enter, taking you to the wrong airport. Some examples - Type in Bergen, and instead of selecting "Bergen Lufthavn Flesland", it selects a heliport in Germany which has the word Bergen towards the end of the title. - Type in EKKO (The ISO code), and instead of preselecting EKKO, it selects Trekkopje (because presumably it has ekko in the middle) - Type in Manchester, and it selects a heliport called (Public Service Co. Manche…

I'm running X-Plane 10.41 64bit on a 64bit Windows 7 machine. My issue is that the volume of the ATIS and NAV broadcasts are so low that I can barely hear them with all other sounds turned off and my master volume cranked up. When I operate with everything at normal levels, the ATIS and NAV broadcasts are not audible. Anyone else experiencing the same issues? I tried cranking the volume of "com radio" in the sound settings, but that doesn't have any effect on the volume of the ATIS and Nav broadcasts. Any ideas? - Ken

  15. After some heavy development effort I have completed version 2.0 of WebSimConnect Framework. It has two major changes, I replaced the rendering engine (it is not backward compatible with 1.x components of WSC) and developed X-Plane version for Mac OSX 32 and Mac OSX 64. The biggest challenge for me was X-Plane Mac support. I am a "Windows guy" for many years so I had to learn a lot in a short time. I have dusted off my old MacBook (which I have never liked much), upgraded to OSX Yosemite, installed all the tools, synchronised with my on-line code repository and started coding. First of all, I replaced some core functions with cross-platform code and that was the easy part…

How is the latest version of vFlyte's Piper Arrow III for X-Plane? Is it worth buying? I have over 100 hours in an Arrow as a Pilot and would love to add this one to my fleet. Thanks for the input. I was looking at a youtube vid a while back (can't find it now) where the person seemed to pull up an approach chart within (seemingly) x-plane. I am not sure if it was a plugin etc, but the charts seemed like an overlay on the sim without the user having to alt-tab etc to switch between the two. Can anyone tell me if there is an approach chart product out there that does this?

So in v10.4x this was added:- Hobbs time is now tracked with an aircraft that has a working hobbs meter that notes the total hours flown. Most Hobbs meters shown in X-Plane are usually fake. Does anybody know if the carenado aircraft support this function, or if theirs are fake? Also a few years ago there was a plugin called x-Hobbs, which tracked hours for every plane, and this lead to failure etc... Does it still work?

Danklaue has an excellent video tutorial series on building X-Plane aircraft (including 2d/3d cockpits) using Blender and Planemaker.51 episodes so far and they are a great resource for X-Plane aircraft builders. :( Find the tutorials on Youtube here:http://www.youtube.com/user/danklaueHe's also posted some progress shots for the ERJ-140 he's building here:http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showto...mp;#entry471637edit: I just noticed the tutorial link has been posted in the Aircraft design subforum back in April. In any case he's added a lot of videos since then. Well worth checking out if your interested in building aircraft for X-Plane.

  21. Open up AIRFOIL-MAKER (in your root XP folder) and then drop down the FILE menu. There you will see an entry to convert all your aircraft foils to the latest v7 versions. This will automatically sniff out all your aircraft...and then do the conversion. This is especially important for ROTOR aircraft...for pivotal calculations on the rotors. This will give you all the 'juice' built into XPX.41. It's a snap to do...and will allow older aircraft to be opened for use...without a crash because the airfoils did not meet the spec's that XPX.41 expects to find. Ses

Some good chap at the org has put together some seasonal trees that switch automatically on a given date (which users can edit). It's just the trees, not textures, so the ground itself will still be the summer textures, but looks pretty good. http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=29015

Is there anyone out there running at 4k? I'd like some idea of what to expect because I seem to be struggling. I can get very good frames with lots of add ons and all detail maxed in prepar3d but I seem to get very low frames in xplane. I seem to have to turn things down far too much until it looks really poor compared to prepar3d to get acceptable frame rates. I know my sli is useless in xplane but even so.... I5 @ 4.7ghz, 2 970gtx sli, 16G ram and everything running from a Samsung ssd. At 1080p I can fly with most things turned up and w2xp uk looking good. At 4k I'm around 2fps though.
