I've ordering a system from falcon northwest, and they called me up saying that they can't give me the 1 gig memory I asked for, because Crucial only makes 256 sticks, and the amd board only has three slots. Questions: first, is 768 mb enough for FS2002 plus all the add ons, and if not, what brand that makes 512 chips is good? the system I ordered is:Coolermaster ATC-201 Aluminum Mid TowerEnermax Whisper 450 Watt Power SupplyAsus A7V-333 5PCI USB2.0 AMD USE PC2700AMD Athlon XP 2100+Coolermaster Socket A CPU Heatsink/FannVidia GeForce4 Ti4400 128MB DDRthanksL3

Hello all, I recently got tricked into getting a new computer with the Geforce4 440. The frames are ok and the system is not too bad, its an AMD 1600MHZ 512DDR RAM...etc....Ive been fighting for a while to get the reflective textures to work in the sim. Whatever I did never seemed to do the trick. The other day I minimized my FS screen for a few seconds, when i reopened the screen I had full reflective textures. My problem now is that I cannot recreate what I did. Any ideas? Atleast now I know the Geforce4 can show multitexturing in fs2k2. Im pulling my hair out with this stupid card. Ive done everything....new drivers, old drivers..dunked the computer in water etc....Any…

and I'm not talking about my favourite cousin, Darek, who still lives in Ontario, and works as a Govt economist, that Darek is also my hero, but it not of him I speak! :)Nope I speak of the Darek Mihocka, assemblist of some fame, of Emulators Inc. who I was first introduced to in the mid-80's ( my "atari" years. Hey, they were better than Amigas! :) )Here is a cool tip from his site:http://www.emulators.com/secrets.htm#NumTrickHere is where I found that:http://www.emulators.com/secrets.htmAnd here is his site where you can get free stuff, cool free stuff. Hello all. On another board I read that it is possible to get reflective textures for fs. This is how you do it.Go to the aircraft select page, while it is on hit Alt then Tab. The screen will minimize. Click the mouse anywhere on you main window then maximize fs2k2 and voila you have reflective textures. Now it wont come up full screen but if you play around a little you will get a full screen reflective textured plane.Good luckP.s My frames took a huge hit after i got the reflective textures to work. I have a Geforce4 Mx440 with windows XP, AMD 1600MHZ 512K DDR ram, my frames before reflective textures were around 35-55, now they dont exceed 19fps....oh welll thanks Nvi…

I still tuning my new computer, and have both Win XP and 98SE installed.I find that I get a higher "benchmark" score on 98 than I do on XP, 38fps vs 35fps (Meigs, all settings max, unlimited frame rate, no AI traffic). Is this normal, and does XP have a higher overhead? I have yet to try some XP tweaks, some of which I note are supposed to provideadditional resources. I also have NAV running on XP, but not on 98SE, as it has no internet connection nor e-mail.Thanks,Bruce.PIV 1.8G, 512 DDR (PC-2100), GeForce 4 Ti200.

Hi all,Upon request, I'll post the methods I use to quickly reinstall Windows (on both Fat32 and NTFS systems) without having to format a drive or loose personal documents and the like. These procedures *only* remove Windows itself and nothing more on your drive(s).There are two different methods depending on how you've formatted your drive(s) to begin with: with NTFS on NT, 2000 or XP, or Fat32 on 9x-ME, 2000 and XP. It doesn't matter what any other possible data drive(s) or partitions are formatted with: the only thing that matters is what the drive or partition is formatted with that contains your Windows installation. So, you could have many drives formatted with N…

Please do not laugh at the question I am about to ask. Will FS2002 run on a Mac's operating system? My Windows XP Home, AMD 1800 XP +, GF3 Ti500, 768 mb of PC 2100 DDR, machine is up to it's old tricks of "Re-booting" while I fly FS2002. I thought I had gotten rid of it when I installed a 2nd case cooling fan which helped drop the temp 8-10 degrees.I have reloaded the operating system, reloaded FS2002 numerious times and even had it in the computer shop and no problems could be found. I have changed the NVidia drivers and even sent Microsoft per their request a "Memory Dump" of the reboot which took 12 plus hours via their extreamly slow ftp server.I know there are few sim…

I have recently upgraded to a Nvidia card Ti4600 with 128mb. I put all the FS settings to MAX and get frame rates varying from 11 upto about 20 in and around Meigs. That rate is O.K. for me as I get so much more in the scene. But I find, perhaps it was there before, occasional 0.5 sec(appx) pauses (maybe 3 in a take-off run at Meigs). I am assuming that this is not related to the graphics card and perhaps disc access or main board memory speed. I am not quick enough to spot if the disk access at the point of the pause, tho' it is being accessed at other times without associated pauses. This combined with a pause sometime when switching views and, as has been mentioned her…

I would like some advice on setting up partitions on my drives. The system I am building will have two physical harddrives. One is a 30G IBM Deskstar and the other is an 80G Western Digital with an 8MB cache.I want to keep the OS (Win XP) on its own partition separate from any other program files. I also want to keep all my SIMS (FS2K2, CFS2, Trainsim) on the other physical drive using the most efficient partitioning)Will the 8MB high performance cache on the WD drive be the best option for the OS itself? Can anyone recommend any reading that I might do about setting up partitions or does anyone have any insight as to what might make the most sense? I know 80G is a very la…

I will be buing new hardrive for about $100 which can get me at nice IBM 80GB 7200rpm 2Mb buffer and 8.5ms seektime. Can someone explan me about seektime and the buffer? It obvious that 7200rpm is faster than 5000rpm, but how about the buffer and seektime? For example, which hardisk will be better?7200rpm, 8.5ms, and 2Mb bufferor7200rpm, 8.9ms, and 8Mb bufferThe slower seektime one has more buffer so I wonder if shoudl I choose one with more buffer or with faster skeetime. Please give me advice and some info on relations seektime and buffer. Is there advantage of having more buffer and choosing slower seektime one? Thanks in advance.

Right now, I have an ASUS Geforce2 MX in my P3-1000 with 512 meg PC133 SDRAM. It is a full MX -- not an MX200 or 400.Now, I don't believe that it is "value for money" to upgrade this card to the fastest, bestest Geforce 4 .So what would be a realistic match for this processor - ?Thanks

I'm kind of doubtful whether I'll get any responses to this, but here it goes anyway.I'm running XP Pro with the Sidewinder FF2, in FS2002. I get forces just fine on takeoff, and feel the gear up/down and wind forces but nada on landing. I don't understand how the landing could not work and yet takeoff (and taxiing) does, but there you have it.Unfortunately, landing is where force feedback would help the most. I should mention that I'm mostly flying the Cessna float plane -- FF is definitely plane specific, as one plane I downloaded shook so hard on takeoff I had to disable FF just to fly it (the OV-10). It doesn't matter if I land on water or land, still no FF. I ass…

Hi,since I have my new computer I have a really annoying problem with the sounds in FS2002: there is always some crack over the engine noises. Do you know how to solve that problem? I already downloaded the actual drivers from the developerhomepage.System: AMD Athlon XP 1500+256 MB SDRAMWin XPCreative Soundblaster 128FS2002Thank you,Jorin BonneyHeidelberg, Germanywww.flugsimulation.com

I currently have a 2.2 P4. I upgraded my motherboard recently to support the new 533mhz fsb (which my current CPU does not take advantage of) I was going to get the P4 2.5, but then figured it wouldn't be much of an upgrade. At least not worth the money. I decided to wait for the next release from Intel but wondered if it will be a 2.7 or 2.8 or higher? They seam to release new CPU's every 3 -4 months so Im guessing Aug 02 would be possible maybe sooner. Anyone have any inside info on this? Im getting impatient, I need my upgrade fix!Rob

After resisting the urge to get a new box as we go along the continuum of FS2K2 and the high power add-ons, I'm taking the plunge this week. I am a loyal Dell user and realize that may cost me a little more, but am planning on replacing my: 600MHz to upgraded PIII 1Ghz Win 98SE 512Mb RAM, 20GB HD NVIDIA GeForce 4 TI4400 128 Mb card with a: Dell P4 2.4 Ghz 512Mb RAM, 40Gb HD WinXP Pro NVIDIA GeForce 4 TI4400 128Mb card (using same card in new box) Any reason to pay the extra money for 1Gb of RAM? Primarily I'm just a diehard FS2002 simmer with not much other use. Is WinXP Pro working out well with MSFS 2002? L…

Greetings,I just today ordered a new Gateway 700S desktop, I got plenty of power and processor speed now for flying with FS2002, I am at present flying with a Dell Pentium XPS R400, or 400mhz and a 8mb video card, so not the best for flying with any decent graphics and the stuttering that happens sometimes, I also have a CH Products Virtual Pilot Pro Flight Yoke that works great, but I also see that CH Products has a newer USB version flight yoke out, does anyone have any opinions on using it, or the Microsoft Joysticks as a flight device, I must admit I prefer using a flight yoke compared to a joystick.I would appreciate everyones comments and suggestions on this, especi…

Just wondering what some of your ideas might be. I have just upgraded my system and have decided to keep my existing video card until prices fall a bit. I am not sure if my existing card will bring the new system down or whether it can still perform well enough. What I will have at the end of the week:ASUS A7V333 MBO512 MB Kingmax PC 2700 RAM80MB Western Digital Caviar HD with 8MB cacheAthlon XP 2000+ CPUEnermax 350W Power SupplySoundblaster Audigy SCGeForce 2 GTS 64 MB video card** This is the original card I have been using. The GeForce 4 cards are still quite expensive in Canada. Will the GF2 GTS bring down the rest of the new system? Thanks for any comments!!John-PaulT…
