I have decided to upgrade to a GeForce 4 Ti 4400 video card. The best preices I can find in Toronto are among the following manufacturers:ASUS, Leadtek, ABIT and MSIThe price differences and the software bundles are not really a deciding factor as they are all priced very similarly. Can anyone recommend one of these manufacturers over another? Thanks for any input!John-PaulToronto

Hey guys, I'm about fed up with my old All-In-Wonder Radeon 32MB DDR graphics card. It's really starting to cause FS to look nappy, with blurry VC's and anti-aliasing that's next to nothing.I'm seeking some opinions here. I'm planning to build a new system next year for FS2004 (assuming it comes out as it has for years now), but I'm willing to do something to solve this problem now. Would the Radeon 9000 Pro for $80 white box be a decent and affordable tide-me-over until next year? What are the differences between that and the 9700?At any rate, whatever I do I'll have to buy a Hauppage WinTV card because my computer also happens to be my entertainment center at presen…

Hi all, Sorry to hear that so many of you are having problems with Win XP. However more worrying I think for those of you who can get it to work with FS2K2 is the refresh rates. In Directx the highest refresh rates are 75 Mhz! (even at 600 x 800!). With Open GL this drops to 60 MHz. For more details read the latest report in PC Zone magazine. This is really appalling for gamers who probably suffer most. I have Win 98se and I get refresh rates of up to 120 MHz at a resolution of 1164 x 864 in 32 bit, and to be honest I think this is too low, as confirmed by many opthlamic opticians. This I think is a very serious issue, and one I hope Microsoft will address, if enough peo…

Dear all,Unfortunately my existing system (AMD TBIRD 1.2 on Asus A7M266 with 512 MB DDR 2x40 GIG 7600 HD and GF 2 400MX) got fried the other day so I am looking at the moment at rebuilding a new system. After long deliberation I have taken the decision to this time build a system based on a Pentium 4.The main purpose of this system is to run FS2002 so I am looking at a system that is "specialised" to run FS2002 smoothly.I was thinking along the lines of PIV 2.0 Processor with a Geforce 4 card.Since I would like to "recycle" my Hard Disks and Case I am looking for the following components.* Mobo* Sound Card* Graphic CardI would appreciate it if you could let me know compone…

I am currently using an Hitachi 21" with a .22 dot pitch. I run FS2002 and most of my other games including my desktop at 1600*1200 res. Ive had it for about 3 years now and have been extremly happy with it. I have passed on getting a flat screen because they were smaller in size and usually not able to go up to that resolution and did not want to take a step back just to get a flat screen. However, I recently read an article about Sony coming out with a flat screen this fall which is 20" and goes up to 1600*1200 res and will sell for just under $2000. (or so they say) I was wondering if in spite of the improvemnts being made to flat screens, are there still reasons I sho…

Hi all, fairly soon, it may be time for me to reformat my HD. When I do so, I might partition it a bit further, so I can have one partition just for FS. Now I have two questions:1) I know, a lot of add-on scenery can be installed in any location, including a different HD. Has anyone done this and what's their experience regarding performance?2) Which file system is preferable for running FS2002 - FAT32 or NTFS?Any comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Cheers,Gosta.System Specs:AMD Athlon 1GHz,40GB HD,1.6GB HD (Swap File)ATI Radeon 7200 64MB,Aureal Vortex Soundcard (very old...),192MB RAM (need more),Win XP Pro.

Hi everybody,I have just installed a Diamond Monster Fusion AGP video card into my computer system with the required drivers. When I go to Flight Simulator 2002, there are black square "boxes" enclosing the autogen trees and the runway lights including the lights of the airplane. The clouds, when flying through them, are enclosed by white square and rectangular shapes. The card is not known to have this problem. My system specifications: Pentium 2, 400Mhz, 96Mb RAM. What should I do?Thanks. Asad

Hi there:I've been reading all the excellent posts, and have a few questions about display options (asuming I go ahead and take the plunge).I am extremely satisfied with the way FS looks, especially after applying Paul's suggested settings. I am know thinking of using dual displays:(a) one 21 inch monitor for outside views and a smaller monitor for poanel (I have a Ti4600). In order to keep 1200+ resolution, am I limited to atleast a 17 inch monitor, or is there a way set outside view res to 1200+ and panel display to 800?; or(:( LCD projector and monitor. Will a 1000 lumins LCD projector be workable? Will I experience any loss in frmae rates given the two options above…

I currently have 256mb of PC2100 ram, but I plan on adding another 256 soon. I'm just curious about how much of a performance increase I can expect, if any. I have all the settings at the highest and use a 30m mesh of the US. I noticed that FS2002 takes up all of the ram when it runs so I'm hoping that it will make a difference.

I am looking for a link to a program that runs multiple video clips that tests your entire system. It has a dragon flying over a village as one of the tests. I am not sure but I think it also will give you the description of "All" components inside your pc like the size, speed and type of memory as well as what kind of hard drive, mother board, and processor you have.ThanksTerry

After swithching the 2 processors back and forth and getting absolutely no responce with the new CPU I am ready to say that the CPU is defective.Am I overlooking something? As far as I could find out the MB , with the latest BIOS, should accept the XP Processor without any other changes required. It should at least post so I can go into the BIOS and check the settings.Any suggestions, tips? Condolences? I hat…

  23. Hi there,I'm trying to find a low cost system that may not be top notch, yet run FS2002 better than my current (rather ancient) system. I know for the price I'm targeting I won't get the system most power users have(700 - 800 USD, pre-build, I'm not good putting PC's together) and I was wondering what the hardware guru's think of this quote I just received:AMD XP 2000 w/fan Microstar 745ULTSIS

Hi there guys, I'm posting this from Italy and would like to have some advices regarding the purchase of a new video board.I have currently an 'obsolete' Abit siluro T400 with 64 SDR (I guess). I would like to change it but as mentioned, I don't have much money to spend (at least now). The only thing I can think about is a fairly cheap SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON 8500LE 64MB DDR TvOut Dvi AGP which in a store near home is rated 145 $. The only doubt I have is the "LE" quote. I heard the ATI Radeon was out without this LE thing. What is the story with it?Do you thing is worth having the mentioned board.Hope to hear from you soon.Thank you in advanceMichael, Italy
