I was at work yesterday reading all of these great comments about adding a second monitor for FS2002, so I picked up a PCI video card on the way home from work. Problems.First off, I'm starting with a AMD Athlon 1800XP on an Asus A7V-266E motherboard. My AGP card is a Leadtek GF3 Ti200. I have 512mb of RAM. The PCI video card I tried to add is the COMPUSA generic 64mb SiS 305 chipset. I'm running Windows XP Home. When I dropped the card in and fired up the system, it found the new card, recognized it as a PCI VGA card, recognized the SiS 305 chipset and then anounced that the installation had failed and that there was "an error in the data". I tried the installation …

Duh...a few weeks ago, I made a plea for help with my CHProducts USB joysticks, and WinXP. You may not remember, but the issue was setting the "number one" id for specific joysticks as needed for various games. XP has a lot of problems in this department, much like it does for Screen Refresh Rates, two CRITICAL capabilities missing from Bill's Uber-Gaming Platform, but I digress...Bob Church was kind enough to point me in the right direction and I picked up CHProducts "Control Manager" for their USB products. It allowed me to enable/disable my joysticks on the fly, effectively solving my issues with ControllerID 01. I had already thanked him privately, but such chival…

I'm just curious about something. Why dose a Geforce 3 or Geforce 4 vid card that is 64mb provide better performance than a Geforce 2 64mb card?In other words, the 2,3 and 4's are all 64mb cards, yet each one provides better performance as you move up the food chain from 2 to 3 to 4. Why?ThanksTim13

I am new to XP and the idea of dual monitors. I have a 21" monitor connected to my standard VGA output, how do I connect a seconf monitor to the S Video output. Is there an adapter I need and where do you get them.... The set up in XP looks pretty straight forward and Radeon (ATI) provides software for the configuration. Thanks in advance.

  18. Has anyone who uses WinXP created a separate instance to run FS2002 only, and been able to successfully disable processes that aren't required for other tasks except a network connection and FS itself? I'd be interested in what the minimum processes are, and if there were any issues caused by the activation of the 2nd instance on the same machine.Thanks,Bruce.

Hey Everyone My current system I have a shuttle A161 motherboard with a 950 mhz Amd Slot A Proccessor. with 765 mb of ram. My current Video card is an ATI 7200 64mb. The Motherboard I was looking to get is a Gigabyte GA-7DX with a 1800+ xp Processor and plan to buy 512mb of ram from crucial.com also I'm planning on switching from a slot a to a socket A motherboard. Would this be a good setup, I don't play to many other games, mostly all are simulation, I currently use Flight Simulator 2000, Fly, and X-Plane. I also play the space simulator called orbiter. Is anyone here also using gigabyte motherboards in there systems, how are they working out. I would especially li…

I''m looking to build a new system, as my old one can't be upgraded w/o basically costing the same. And so, I arrive at the always interesting issue regarding what Graphics card I should get.According to Roy Chaffin, a switch to GeForce 4 doubled his framerates in FS2002, however it should miss some of the features from GeForce 3 - some of which are more or less usefull in the other 3D games I play every now and then (DoD rings a bell, anyone?).

ok, so I decided to get a pc just for flight sims and flight sims only. The key is that I know nothing about pcs. I know buying all the parts and putting it together myself would be cheaper, but I just can't attempt that. So, that said, I checked out the prices at 3 online stores: PCclub, Alienware, and dell. hopefully someone out there can help with these questions: I've noticed that there are quite a bit of options with these things, such as mobo, power supply, and cooling fan. How important is it to get a certain brand? Also, it seems that Athlon is better than a P4? I would assume that the GeForce 4600 is the way to go as far as video card is concerned. Also, is what…

I have a new system, which has a G3 Ti200 video card (LeadTek). I have loaded drivers from the CD that came with the card. Looking at DM, they appear to be: 2.1.83 dated 9/14/01, or 5.13.01.2183. Is there a whole lot to be gained from upgrading these drivers? Most GeForce cards appear to have a sweet spot in driver development, beyod which little gain is realized unless you have a later model card. Thanks for any information.Bruce.

Howdy :-waveAs I mentioned in an earlier post I tried upgrading to XP1900+ last week. Put it on a MSI k7V turbo2 or somethng like that because it would take the 768 mb's of sdram I already had. Didn't think I could really afford the DDR stuff. I found however that I didn't get much of a performance boost in FS as compared to my original 1.333. In fact I didn't notice much differance at all. I ran out and bought it because of the performance hit I got using the new TTools and WorldAI plans. So I took it back.Any ideas as to why I might not have seen an improvement? If I were to give it another shot and get the new DDR ram what MBO would you recommend ?Your help would be muc…
