Yeah, you did not misread anything, I'm having trouble with my floppy drive. Here's the full story...After I did a complete hardware upgrade on my computer late last summer I had a bunch of PC parts laying around - including a MSI 6191 mainboard with an Athlon 700 CPU on it. Well, a short time ago I agreed with my dad to build him a second "work" computer from these parts. So I bought the hardware still needed and went to work. Assembly was not much of a problem, but when I switched the machine on for the first time I could observe the following.Having successfully installed Win 2000 Pro on my dad's new 'puter I was puzzled to see that there was no floppy drive to be foun…

Hello all, I have a Dell 8200 2ghz 1 Gig RDRam GeForce 3 T200 64meg card with 28.32 drivers, and I get 11 frames per second at SFO with sliders almost maxed, and 9-13 frames in most dense airports. I have the GTU max and have been tweeking the video card. I have no virus detected on the machine and everything in good working order. I checked the Bios and saw in the CPU info section a bus of 100mhz and cache 256kb L2. I called Dell and they said it should say 100 in the bus area (4x 100=400mhz bus speed) and claimed I ordered a machine with 256k (looking for origional docs I swear it was 512k). I am wondering if anybody could direct me to previous posts (have not foun…

  4. I'm trying to contact someone at ABit, or from the retail that I purchased from, however I thought I might try here first:During POST, I get an "A7" error. This is before any video BIOS, in fact my monitor never detects the prsence of video at all. Right now, it's a bare-bones system, consisting of only the mobo, CPU, memory and video card.ABit BD-7P4- 478 pin 1.80A 400 FSB512 DDR RAMLeadtek geForce 3 Ti200.I have the IDE and floppy cables disconnected, although they were connected and the error is still there. Thanks for any hints. This has to be a low level issue, obviously. Maybe one of the above components are bad. I've checked the seating of everything OK.Thanks,…

Hello! Was going to write a glowing review of my eXPerience finally moving to the latest and greatest, then discovered a disconcerting little "bug" in the uber-gaming 32-bit OS.Multiple USB devices can no longer be given a numerical priority ala Win9x Controller ID 0, 1, 2, 3, etc. Stupid right? Yep, except MS allowed for the need to prioritize with a elegant solution. Select Advanced and you can select your primary controller for legacy games that do not allow for multiple configurations. Great idea, but it don

  6. My new (to be) system has an on-board sound chip (ABit BD-7). I might choose to use a sound card, which I have from an older system. If so, should I install Win XP without the card in the machine, then disable the on-board sound, then add the card? I figure having the card in the machine when I load Win XP will only cause confusion when the on-board chip is also detected. Thanks for any advice.Bruce.

I had everything flight sim on a separate physical hard drive and I mean everything. I have acquired a new computer system and removed the physical HD from the old and installed it in the new, thinking XP would automatically find it (with it's old volume name d:/flight sim). The operating system is XP Home EditionThe computer BIOS recognizes the HD. You can see it sitting there under Device Manager and the disk management tools show it present, active, no conflicts and ready status but with no drive letter or volume name.My Computer doesn't see it at all. I've tried un-installing it and re-installing it per the XP instructions but I don't get the 'found new hardware w…

Well, the computer sunk to the point of no boot, so replaced the MB. Looking at the old MB, I think the problem were some bad caps going south in the power supply. The tops were mushrooming out like blown caps do. Up running again, after the reformat and clean install, so will have to warm everything up and see how it does. I appreciate all of the suggestions from everybody, and hopefully it is fixed now :)Den

Hi all,I have been using a Wingman Force 3D (without the force feedback) for about a year now and the joystick now has a large "dead" area in the middle (i.e.you can move the stick several degrees in any direction before it begins to take effect and you start to feel it "bite").My question is can I take the joystick apart and is something I can adjust to tighten the stick back to its original state or is just worn out and time to buy a new one?I really like the stick but this dead area is really starting to have an effect on the precision of my flying. Thanks to all who can offer advice,Kevin in CYOW

I was really hesitant to post this, but then decided it was better to be safe than sorry. I'm upgrading my video card, but staying in the nVidia family. I've already got the 23.82 drivers installed on my WinXP computer. To put it simply, what do I need to do as far as the software is concerned?Do I need to change the driver for my current card to standard vga, then swap, then update the drivers, or just throw the new card in, or what? Can anyone give me any advice or tell me what to watch out for especially if they've done this recently? The reason I wasn't sure I wanted to post was because I actually know what I'm doing, but at the same time I haven't done it for a co…

hey guys.. maybe someone can help me with this. I just rebuilt my computer with a New MoBo, Athlon 1.7+, case etc.... I put in my old DVD/ROM, Floppy and dual hard drives running Win 98SE. I have a Verto/GForce 200 Vid 32 meg card, 128 meg DDR (getting more tomorrow) and with both a V.90 phone modem and a Kingston Ethernet card for my cable modem. Here's my problem... on boot up I get a blue screen stating that there is an incorrect address involving "VxD CWCJOY (02) + 00000062 at {or something like it} 3BFD Service 3". I click yes to continue and I get a second blue screen with the same stuff except for it says "000000C2" . I then hiy Y to continue and it seems to boot n…

  13. This is my second PC to build. My new motherboard offers ATA-66/100, and comes with an ATA/100 EIDE cable (more "strands" than the standard IDE). (My HD also supports ATA 100).Can I use the EIDE ATA/100 cable to run just standard IDE? I'm thinking I have to get Windows up and running first before I can invoke ATA/100 and the mobo drivers. Do I need to use an older "standard" IDE cable to do that initially? Thanks,Bruce.

Would someone be kind enough to explain Vcore settings to me.I have an Asus A7V mobo and a Tbird 950 AMD. I read somewhere that the default Vcore setting was 1.75 for my CPU and that I could overclock it safely by changing the Vcore and the FSB multipliers provided that I had adequate cooling. Needless to say, FS2K2 seems to be requiring me to get as much performance out of my current set-up and I am trying to be frugal at the moment except by adding a new video card. At any rate, I am not quite sure about setting the FSB since it seems that it is locked in my BIOS however, I was able to increase the Vcore to 1.8o and experienced a pretty good performance increase in dens…

  17. I just upgraded my PC with a Ti4600 and thus I am selling my six-month old GF3 64MB Ti200. The card is in perfect working order, but I no longer have the box. Thus I'm selling it "as is". I'll pack it in my new Ti4600 box so its safe. But the buyer will need to download the latest drivers from NVidia to install. I don't want this to turn into some "EBay" on AVSIM with bidding wars. If you're interested, please send me an email to "[email protected]". Posting offers here will simply create a competitive environment. I live in New York and will gladly ship this to anyone in the US at no cost. Outside US, we'll have to figure it out since I'm not certain I am allowed to send …

Has anyone been able to assign a joystick button to an ATC selection in FS2002 ?I have buttons assigned to "Select 1", "Select 2", etc. When my ATC window is open, I want to press a button to make ATC selections, like replying to commands and selecting airports. It works fine from the keyboard number keys, but will not work from the joystick. Thanks,Keith

I am looking to upgrade video cards and unfortunately I only have PCI slots in my computer. First of all, as far as I am aware, there is absolutely no way to use an AGP card in my computer, but if there is, please tell me. Secondly, with the fact that I only have PCI slots in my computer, what is the best video card I can get. I currently have and ATI Radeon 7000 64 mb DDR. It seems that I might not be able to do any better. Thanks in advance for your help. Eric Szczesniak
