GuysA sad tale. 3 days ago I bought this 80GB U-ATA133 drive - the ball bearing type - along with a Lian Li PC61 case, which is fine. The drive is, in my opinion, DOA because, while it will accept Win98 and later upgrade to XP, it will NOT let me complete a fresh install of XP nor a Ghost installation from my old disk of 2K Pro. System in both cases just hangs mid-boot after install.DOS format came up with 8 or 9 instances of damaged locations, accompanied by ominous clunking while it tried to fix them, outcome not reported.NOW. While it is obvious that this drive is jiggered, I'd like to know if anyone's running this, as opposed to the FDB-equipped "L4" model? I know i…

Call to all you XP gods and goddettes. Installed XP, all was well. Now for some unknown reason, my screensaver refuses to activate based on the timeout setting. The screensaver function still works, I can turn it on by running the .scr or hitting preview, but alas...it will not turn on by itself. This is a bummer for me as I tend to turn on the pc when I come home in the evening and it remains until I retire.I've done all the basic stuff. I've searched high and low on USENET looking for a similar problem. No luck in Technet either!Anyone have any insight?TIA,bt

I have a BD7II, in difference to the BD7 it has an additional DDR DRAM slot (3 in all). I just bought and installed a 3rd stick of 256 PC-2100, and it's not recognized at all (that 3 * 256M in all now). I see nothing on the FAQ at ABit, and the BIOS updates don't mention anything about fixing this. Anyone else had this issue? Thanks. (I've also posted at Tomshardware, but would appreciate any advice that people here may have).P4 1.8G (512K cache)768M PC-2100 Bruce.

I'm a cross-poster. What can I say ;). What follows was posted earlier in the general discussion form. It's been a very long weekend, and I'm looking for some help. I decided to assemble a new system to use with WidevieW (my final one to give me a right side view). I spent a few weeks doing my homework (as much as I could), and decided in the end to go with a Gigabyte MB (Tom's hardware top pick for KT333 chipsets) with Corsair 3000 memory. The details aren't important, because after roughly 24 hours of heartache in 2 days, I'm certain that the MB is defective (to review how I arrived at this conclusion would probably be more painful to me than to you). After numerous bench…

Hallo,I just got my new PC (Athlon XP 2000, 256 DDR, MSI Geforce 4 TI 4200 with 64MB(!), Win XP) up and running and rushed for my son's monitor in order to hook it to the second monitor port (with DMI to VGA adaptor). The outcome was a bit sobering: 2 fps as soon as I put any panel and/or cockpit view to the secondary monitor. As long as all views are on the primary, anything is running in the same perfect way as with one monitor(20-35 fps at least). If I only undock FS-Navigator and put this to the second monitor, it also works fine. I could not really undock the panel view, because it is always bound to the main FS 2002 window, isn't it. I allready installed the latest …

Just upgraded to the excellent Geforce4 Ti 4600, coupled with an AMD 2100 XP CPU, the system is very good on complicated sims such as FS2K2 and PIC 767 / PSS 744 + KEWR Screnery heavy traffic all details set to max, I get FPS of around 18 and smooth! My question is my Monitor will go up to 1900 x 1200, but my Geforce 4 will only let me do anything above 1600 x 900 in 16 bit, which I don't understand.I would really like to achieve 1600 x 1200 in 32 bit, rather than 16 bit, as it looks very good on everybody elses computer but mine!!AMD 2100Win XPDirectx 8.1Geforce4 Ti 4600 128 MB DDR29.42 driversAny help would be most greatly appreciated.Best Wishes,ChrisEGBB

Hey guys:Picked up a weird problem that I have been trouble shooting since this morning.I did my bi-monthly blowing dust out of my PC's this morning, and when I plugged my FS2002 machine the CPU fan made a horrible noise, RPM's dropped to about 2000. So I shut it off, and restarted and no terrible noise this time but the CPU RPM's where about 4000 and climbing slowly. So I let it run for about 15 minutes and the RPM came back up to 5700-5800 where it usually is.I then thought I would do a flight. Everything started fine, but I have picked up this little glitch. Framerates will stay steady at about 12-17 on the ground and 25-30 in the air, but I have a second or so iof…

I have a serious problem here: When I choose a Logitech device in the gamecontroller window in windows my computer locks up. It's only Logitech that does that but that's pretty un-practical since my joystick is a Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital...The problem started after I upgraded my computer this monday. After the upgrade I had to re-install Windows(98) because it wouldn't start properly. Just locked up while booting. My new system:ECS K7S5A mobo, AMD Athlon XP1800+ CPU, 256MB DDR RAM, Leadtek Winfast GF4 MX440 graphics card w/ 64MB DDR, Soundblaster PCI64V soundcard. If I've forgotten someting important, ask for it...Please help me someone!

I just purchased the Asus V8460 (GF4/ti4600) card. Now, I cannot get my dual monitor set up to work (I had 2 video cards (AGP/PCI) before and had no problems). I upgraded my video card, because I thought one of the features of the GF4 was that it could run 2 monitors off of the single card.My specs are:AMD 1.4512MB RAMWindows 2000 Pro SP2Asus V8460 Ultra video card(tried both the 27.42 and the latest 29.32 drivers)Monitors: Sony 19" (standard style monitor)ViewSonic VA720 Flat Panel/LCDThe weird thing is that both monitors get a signal and display the same output until I get to Windows (then the non-primary monitor goes blank... and is not recognized). I'm about to re-install WinXP on my wife's Dell. I see in the "knowledge base" articles at Dell mention of a "Dell Clean 1K" utility, but it's not well described. Does this erase the FAT on the HD? It's formatted NTFS. If I'm reading this right, only the 1K is removed, which effectively removes all data (sounds like a FAT erase, although I don't know if NTFS uses a FAT).Thanks for any ideas on how to best proceed. (I'd be willing to experiment on my own system and play around to find out, but the wife's- there'll be no simmin' done until I'm finished, I just know that :) ).Thanks,Bruce.

Greetings All,For some time now I have been suspicious that my computer is not giving me all it can in FS2K2 (this is the server in my system specs). I've started snooping around in my system hardware device manager and found the peculiarity shown below. While I wish that I had four monitors, I only have the two circled in red. Does anyone know why I have the extra two monitors, and if/how I should get rid of them?

I have a question re video cards (in general) My current card is a 32mb ATI M4 Mobility (AGP x4) equipped with the latest drivers. I run my notebook at a window/desktop resolutuion of 1400x1050x16, as I dislike scrolling and prefer the smaller, but a lot sharper text/fonts etc. The notebook is a Dell Inspiron 8000/P3 600/256 ram/Win98SE. I used to run FS98 on this machine with great results.I noticed that with FS98, when I went from window to F/Screen mode, my frame rates at least doubled (I had Full screen settings at 1400x1050x16) I then bought FS2000 and now FS2002, but notice that frame rates do not alter one iota between Window mode and fullscreen mode (same resoluti…

I feel like cryin, then tossing ot the window. And AI Traffic did it! I found some cool stuff at pricwatch.com. They have Motherboard Combos. It comes with chipset(processor), CPU, and fan. And some other things like heatsink(whats that?) If I got the combo, is that all I need? If I swap old for new, along with getting more memory, will my P.C. work? Will it be better? Please discuss! Thanks to all!
