Hi, I think this is the correct forum for this question? I am looking at a new dell and I see that they are offering the wide aspect flat screen monitors. My question is will the flight sim be distorted in wide screen mode or will the sim require the 4.3 aspect with gray bars on the sides?Jack WilsonDell8300Pent.R4CPU 3.0 GhzXP-Pro1.00 GB of Ram256MB DDR ATI Radeon 9800 XTSB AudigyDell 19" MonitorCable ModemCH Yoke-Pedals

I'm sure this has been covered before, but my search efforts (AVSIM and Google) haven't helped.I've got an older 'puter (P4, 1.8, 512mb, XP home) and I wish to install DirectX 9.0c. I downloaded a file described as DirectX 9.0c. When I unzipped it, I had a file called dxsetup.exe. The file number is 4.9.0.904. When I ran it, I ended up with a DirectX.cab file, 14.7 mb in size.Does this sound like what I should have? If so, where does the cab file go?I've spent a good portion of my day off trying to figure this on my own, and I'm feeling rather sheepish at my lack of success.Assistance will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've just got a David Clark headset and was thinking of trying it out in FS using this adapter: http://www.pcaviator.com/shop/viewAProduct.php?pid=126 -- has anyone had any experience with this setup? I'm a tad leary, because on the only site I've visited that actually posts user reviews, one guy liked it a lot and another said the sound quality was junk and ended up returning it. I'm just looking for some more feedback.thanks,

My Sony monitor (flatscreen 18" with LCD display) offers both as input options, and my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128M) offers both as outputs. I've tried using both formats. The traditional SVGA offers much higher resolutions than the 1280*1024 that the DVI does, although I must say that I don't like the higher res as my toolbar disappears, until I get to 1600*1200, where I get an "out of scan" error on my monitor. I do note that the SVGA has much better contrast and color rendition (brighter colors) for a given setting of monitor controls, but appears to be a softer picture (still very acceptable though). What is the comparible pros and cons of these 2 modes? Is there any …

I am considering getting a 74GB Raptor to enhance my system. I am seeking some advice on how to best set up my system with the new drive. I currently have ATA 7200 RPM drives of 160GB and 120GB. The Raptor will supplement these 2 existing drives. I am seeking to maximize my FS9 performance, especially with photographic scenery such as MegaScenery. My questions involve how I should allocate the resources amongst these 3 drives? For example, should my XP Home system be on one drive and fs9 on another, and if so, which drive should get the XP system, which should get the MegaScenery, etc.Should the MegaScenery go on the Raptor - which will obviously be the fastest drive - and…

I have just ordered a new MB and a Athlon 64 3200+ . I wonder how much difference does it make (in FS9) to use double channel memory compared to just ordinary memory (everything else being equal)?I now have 1 512M Samsung 400 MHz1 1 256M Samsung 1 256M Apacer 333 MHz. The Asus support told me that I won't be able to use dual channel because of different brands. If I get a new 512M Samsung 400MHz is it best to only use the two 512M Samsung to get dual channel at 400 MHz or to use all memory and get 1.5 Gb but without dual channel and only 333 MHz? I have heard that the difference between 400 and 333 is only a few percent.

I am driving myself crazy trying to figure out what to buy. I have $200 TOPS to spend and there are 3 things on the top of my list. 1) TrackIR Pro2) CH Flight Yoke USB3) CH Rudders USBI am a student pilot in real life, and find that these 3 items would make my flight sim experience more realistic. Unfortunately, I don't have enough cash to buy all 3. I need help deciding what to buy, and would appreciate all comments.

hausdingN204SI have a newer pc with all upgrades and updates to Win XP, lots of memory and processor speeds (?).When I try to use my Saitek Graphite stick with even the instructional flying for beginners the "uppy - downy" and the "lefty - righty" control inputs are so slight (breath or belch) that the planes fly erractically and the inputs continue to 'porpoise' until the planes are out of control. I can't fly straight and level even after adjusting the MSN 2004 Flight Sim sensitivity slides........any sticks for sale with more adjustment or a way to slow down the planes response to fly normally? Saiteks tech support didn't provide much in the way of solving this issue…

Hi. I am new to the forum and I tremendously admire the bonding and help that I've seen here for our Flight Simulator hobby. My sad problem is that I couldn't leave well enough alone and started to change the display settings in FS2004 to a setting my monitor cannot handle. Now I can't see anything when I open FS2004. Lines and flickering gibberish only. I can't navigate and can't change the settings back to default. Is there anything I can do besides uninstalling FS2004 ? I've even tried deleting the fs9.cfg file and it almost worked ( saw half of the screen readable for a second) .. but alas it was to no avail. (To exit FS2004 I actually have to hit the Windows key and …

About 6 months ago I swapped out my FS PC from an Intel P4 1.8 w/ 512MB RAM and a Geforce3 Ti card to a machine with the following specs:Athlon 64 3400+ on Asus K8N FSB 800MHz mobo1 GB 3200/400MHz DDR RAM80GB WD SATA HDGeforce FX 5700 Ultra o'cd to 520MHz core / 1.04GHz mem.Win XP ProNow here's the issue. There is *a little* performance improvement over my old machine. When I get bad weather at an airport or a lot of traffic the FPS crawls down to 6-7 :( Now the culprit here I suspect is the video card, but correct me if I'm wrong. Also my 3Dmark05 score is very low, BUT comparable to others with the same setup it's about right. Here is a list of things I've tried already…

This problem seemed to creep up out of nowhere. Never really had an issue with stutters before. Even now the sim runs smooth as silk no matter what clouds, weather, AI, scenery I throw at it. Been very lucky. Now whenever I minimize FS2004 or "pause" and minimize, the instant I go back to playing I get a repetitive small stutter. Just enough to notice and annoy me. Very consistent and rhythmic... like a fast waltz of 1-2-3, 1-2-3, it always stutters on the 1. I notice my HD LED light always pops on at the "1" as well. A connection maybe? But then again when every thing is running smooth before I minimize I see the HD LED working as well in the same matter. The only w…

I have been using DELL computers for a long time now I want to get a new computer but I am having problems chossing the Pentium Extreme Edition dual core W/HT Tech (3.20 800 FSB) or the Pentium 4 Processor 670 with H.T. Tech. (3.88 800 FSB) I know that many of you do not like Intel processors but here in El Salvador Central America do not have much of a choice , DELL really has a good support center and why do not have big computer stores to build one soo I think this is my only choice, please help me!!!Best RegardsRicardo Zaldivar

Hi has anyone tried these beta drivers in FS and had good results. Battlefield 2 recommends these drivers, however I dont know if its me or what, my FS9 seems to stutter a little on the outside views. Its could be ATC that is causing this...going to research it out tonight. Just want to know if anyone else tried them out..http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1092Thanks,Bill

OK, We have the CH yoke, the CH Pedals and the CH Throttles.I think.. its time they came out with a Ch Trim wheel and a Gear up/Down handle and a flaps handle.I am looking at the Go flight's Trim wheel setup. 1st off, I read, the wheel is indented (notches)..which is not real.. second...its small. Can anyone who owns a GoFlight comfirn the Size of the wheel (I mean the height of the wheel that you see, which would give the diameter).I really would like to have the size a of a real Cessna wheel or atleast the Piper trim wheel (which is a little smaller). Now why can't the Go Flight use the real looking Gear up/Down which almost all the Flit sim manufactuers use..which is th…

My router a Xyxel 660H refuses to allow peer to peer connections across the internet. I have set up numerous rules, added NAT settings and removed them, all, (except once) to no avail. The once worked fine with me hosting a multiplayer session, but with another player on another day it failed. Has anyone done this with a Zyxel router, and what rules did they set up. The Xyxel router is very techie so rules set up with more user friendly, higher level firmware interfaces probably won't help me.For the reord I created a rule to allow my incoming player's WAN IP to pass through my router to my network in the WAN to LAN rules area. In the destination addreses box, I put t…

For some reason lately my throttle Quadrant seems to be out of calibration. I cannot calibrate it properly. As I advance the 2 throttles, one appears to advance faster than the other. At full reverse and at full throttle, the levers are perfectly lined up. In FSUIPC, Windows calibration and looking at the throttle panel in FS, the 2 levers start and finish at the exact same place - the numbers are the same - but they do not move in sync at all. Same for the other 2 sets of levers. This is causing a bad oscillating/yawing problem in my PMDG B1900C. The plane yaws severly back and forth on takeoff until the prop rpm stabilizes. The prop rpm gauges wobble back and forth in o…
