First some background. Dell 8000 3.4, 1 gig ram, XP SP2, GeForce FX5950 Ultra, 500 watt PS and Dell 2001FP monitor. The flat panel display is super. FS9 runs pretty good. Had Nvidia driver 71.64 for quite some time but anisotropic filtering never worked. Any setting gave me all light blue scenery so I didn't have it in effect. Antialiasing was set at 2X, high performance setting and a FS resolution of 1024X768. I was always disappointed though because the scenery, although sharp near the plane was blurred from 1000 to 2000' away. I tried the new drivers 71.84 and 71.89 and didn't see any improvement although with anisotropic filtering, the scenery worked now but adjusting…

I re-installed WinXP on D:, with multi-boot enabled to allow the OS to reside on D:, and the boot files (Boot.ini. NTLDR, etc.) on C:(along with the original install of XP). (This is my wife's computer (Dell), and since I face certain death if I screwed up I elected to create another instance of XP and migrate stuff to it. She had insisted that it was going "slow" and needed a "reformat").I've used multiboot before and it works fine. Today I installed a new second HD as slave. The original (Dell build) used cable-select, so I configured the slave the same, and ensured the IDE connectors were correct. After initialisng in XP amd formatting, I can see the new partitions …

I just installed my new Radeon 9800SE. Installed the drivers from the CD and ran FS2004. Frame rates around 30 or more. Everything seemed to function ok. Did not make any changes to BIOS. Went to ATI site and downloaded latest drivers CATALYST 5-5. Installed after uninstalling previous old drivers. FS2004 now running in high teens FPS. Checked with DXDIAG and it says that AGP is not available. I tried various AGP aperatures and 4x/8x speeds. No help. The previous Nvidia card (GeForce 2 400MX) always worked ok and DXdiag always showed AGP available. Returned to CD drivers after unstalling new drivers but same thig AGP not available??? Is there a recommended Driver Cleaner …

Okay, lets pretend that I bought a flat panel LCD monitor from a friend that has a VGA connection (the monitor, not the friend). Also, lets pretend that I have a GeForce 4 TI 4400 with a standard VGA, S-video, and DVI-D connection. For arguments sake, lets assume that you cannot connect a DVI-D to a VGA monitor. (Actually, this isn't an assumption, this is a fact). So, if someone was wanting to run dual monitors, 1 CRT and 1 LCD, they would, threaticly, need a different video card. What would you all say would be a pretty decent card (99% Flight sim) for around the $250 mark? I'm kind of prefer the Nvidia brand of things. The rest of my system is as follows:WinXP Pro…

I recently upgraded to the new ATI 5.5 display drivers and this morning FS9 froze on me while flying to Whigby NAS from KSEA. I had to turn off the system and restart. I checked the event log (Administrative Tools/Event Viewer/System) and found the following error message: "The driver ati2dvag for the display device devicevideo0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardward incorrectly. Please check with your hardware vender for any driver updates." It also showed the Source was ati2mtag and the Event ID was 108.I fixed this problem by manually reinstalling the ATI display dri…

I have had a CH yoke & rudder pedals for about 5 years. Recently I seem to be having problems controlling the plane in the pitch & roll axis. The plane will just start to roll to one side or the other with no wind or input. Mostly the problem is excesive down elevator sensitivity. I have a hard time on approach not having the nose just dive for the ground with the least amount of down elevator. I have tried to calibrate it multiple times with the WinXP applet & FSUIPC module. Is there a way to test a yoke or do I just have to get another one? Any suggestions? Thanks.Pat Callaghan

  11. I recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro and FS9. After using Jim's optimization guide, FS is nice and smooth in the air. But on the ground, it's like watching a very slow slide show. No matter what plane (stock or addon) I use, it's not smooth when taxiing, on the runway, etc.. it's very very jerky. I have a Athlon XP 2400+ overclocked to 2.1ghz and the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro vc using the 5.1 cat drivers. Just wondering why it would do this or what can I change?thanksAlanKCOS TRACON (the real thing)

Hello, just wondering if .dll files in the modules folder could indeed be cause of stutter. As you might know some files get installed into the modules folder by 3rt party addons. So far I have some stutter and wondering if any of these are known for creating problems:vimacore2004.dll (installed by lago's tornado refuel)traffinfo.dll (can't remember the spelling)traffictoolbox.dll (mytraffic2004 apparently from fs2004sdk)airport chart viewer.dll (airport chart viewer v5)f1_view.dll (flight1 mouse viewer)bglman.dll (f-104 cloud9)fsuipc.dll (guess what)fssound.dll (beta for fs2004)thank youLuca Zappalap.s.Perhaps I should go back to the stable 'old fssound.dll (adding the old…

Hi,I have WinXP x64 (Final) and installed FS9.1 with Catalyst 5.4's. However, although I have nice high fps it seems as if its running in slow motion - it is not as "fast" as in XP 32bit if you know what i mean. It's very smooth but just runs as if in 1/2 speed mode. I have checked and it is in real-time mode. Also - the internal cockpit shows the controls respond quickly enough (e.g. the joystick in the cockpit) but the aircraft don't move around in the environment at full speed.Anyone else notice this? Any fixes? Thanks

Hi all, I want to upgrade my video card as I will be working a lot this summer. I am however lost as to what to buy. I have been very disappointed with my GeForce FX5700LE, but I was probably expecting too much from it. Could someone please recommend a card for me. I have always been an nVidia user but have no problem going to ATI.I am lost when it comes to LX, FX, Extreme, Ultra, PCI Express, and all the other video card suffixes. Anyway, I know the GeForce 6800 is popular, but which one? The GT, Ultra, Overclocked? Anyway, I don't really want to spend more than $450 on this, but I am very eager to get my clouds to stop causing the stutters. I have been told the …

I am looking at buying an ATI card, how is the ATI 9800 pro as compared to the FX 5600 card I already have? My biggest question is, is there a real significant difference between the 128 version to the 256 version of the ATI card? My FX card is a 256 card, but offers very little difference between the two different kinds.ThanksGene
