How goes it...?? Before I get started, I must say, that AVSIM is truly an awesome community...!!!This here, is my first post to these forums, so please bear with me if I have posted into the wrong thread, or if use the wrong terminology... Please correct me if I move in the wrong direction...I have a couple questions and requests... But if I may, I would like to give you a little bit of background on myself, as to give a bit of understanding as to my knowledge thus far...I must say, that I fail in comparison to the vast expertise that this community retains...I am a middle aged man, an old Surfer,

My FS2004 will not connect to multiplayer or the MS gaming zone. When I try to connect it freezes, the page file usage climbs to 2.0GB and the game crashes. An avsim forum search led me to Mcafee Privacy Service causing a similar problem so I removed that but it didn't fix it.If I stop AVG Anti-virus and ZoneAlarm it still crashes the same way.Maybe I need to open some ports or something but I don't know how to do that.I have a new Velocity Micro computor 3400+ AMD 1024RAM and Radeon 850X card .Any help would be much appreciated .Thanks -James

Hello everyone,I have just purchased a AMD64 3000+ and ASUS K8V-X motherboard, i have 1.25GB of RAM and a GeForce Ti4200 64MB, in the next mounth or so i am going to buy a GeForce 6800LE 128MB, and 550W Silent Power Supply unit (my current is 220W at the mo). I am also running WinXP Pro 32bit, and i want to upgrade to WinXP Pro 64bit. What does it consist of, do i have to reformat my hardrive to be able to install it? and do i have to get 64bit drivers for all my other hardware (motherboard, graphics card etc...)? Because i have heard the results with WinXP Pro 64 and FS9 are good ; )Cheers,Nathanial

I have been following the various threads regarding use of dual monitors and thought I'd give it a try.Hooked up a second monitor to my nVidia GeForce 5700LE and placed the monitor adjacent to the primary one to the left. The monitor (a Dell 17"CRT) shows up in Device Mgr but I don't seem to be able to get any windows to move to that second monitor.Since so many get this feature to work well I must be doing something amiss. For instance, have loaded the Dreamfleet A-36 at KSEA. Opened the Radio stack in an undocked window, then tried dragging it with the mouse to the left edge of the screen. It goes to the left edge OK (and disappears as long as I keep dragging) but will n…

Does anyone know whether the latest x64 ATI drivers allow the Catalyst Control Centre to work 100%.The Catalyst Control Centre is needed to stretch the image across two monitors in full screen. Last time I tried it on the beta x64 the control centre worked about 95% but the very feature that I needed (stretch horizontally onto CRT) did not work.

Just installed another 74GB raptor HD into my machine. Could someone please enlighten me as to how to go about getting flightsim add-0n programs (aircraft-sceneries) installed on this new "F" drive to be "seen" and used by FS9 on the "C" drive. Not to sharp when it comes to this tech stuff, all help welcome. Thanks,Joe

I plan to upgrade to a Athlon 64 3200+. I have noticed that there are two such CPU. One with venice core and one without. What is the difference? Is it worth paying extra for venice CPU? What does it offer? Will there be a noticable performence increase with FS9 compared toa non venice CPU at the same frequency?

Hi,Just upgraded from an FX5900 to this new card. The graphics are stunning. However, I'm getting streaks of bright BLUE sparkles in the sky and distant ground textures. Not too bad during daylight scenes, but real bad at dawn and dusk. Updated the P4P800 chipset drivers, the latest ASUS drivers, which did not help. What has me confused, none of the FS9 sliders has any effect on the sparkling blue wandering stripes. HELP.... FX5900 is OK.Regards,Bob...... in sunny Florida

For all those who use x64 XP; is anyone having a rather unusual and annoying problem where FS9 runs TOO fast even though frame rates are the same as x32 XP?I know it sounds weird, and it's kinda difficult to explain, but it appears that x64 XP causes FS9 to run as if it is in X4 or X8 speed even thought it is in normal speed mode. I just can't figure it out, occasionally it runs normally but more often than not it's simply too fast. Attempting to run it in x0.5 speed doesn't compensate properly for the difference either. It must be something to do with emulating x32 applications ... anybody got any advice or feedback?Del

I bought a Verto Graphics card from PNY Technologies about 14 months ago, for my Dimension 2400 which I am now giving to my Grandson. . The warranty on the side of the box of this G Force FX5200 128 Meg stated that the card had a "Lifetime Warranty" The fan went bad this week and I contacted them on their web site for an RMA to send the card back to them for a repair or replacement. I got a response yesterday that the card was out of warranty. I returned the message stating that the box clearly states that a Lifetime warranty was valid on this product. I get another email today, and here it is: >>>PNY's Lifetime Replacement Warranty>PNY Technologies, In…

Im lost in an ocean of graphics-cards reviews and don't know where to begin http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/kao/otn/pcrying.gifYou people are a lot more cued up on this...so here I am.Would really appreciate some advice! To narrow things down I have decided to go for the ATI brand - which one is the burning question. I know there are gazillions of chipset-graphics processor combos out there...major confusion! This is only a 7-month old computer but when I bought it I did'nt pay any attention to the videocard. I have an ATI X300 (PCI Express) which I wanna upgrade. It does its job but after seeing the pictures in the screenshot forum I know I can make my FS9 run smoother…

Hi,A few days ago I installed flight sim 2004 in a friend's pc (AMD Athlon 64 2800+, 1024mb PC2700, SATA 120GB drive, GeForce FX5200 128MB)... when I created a flight, I configured the grafics almost full... I took off from maiquetia (SVMI) and I noticed that the water textures where in a purple to pink tone with some of light blue, in some places there wasn't any ground texture (trees seemed to be flying (it looked awful), and some textures near the mountains seemed squared and the sea in some cases, reached at least 1 mile through the land. I tried to fix it installing the latest AGP drivers, some oldest versions, reinstalling FS9, testing with different grafics configu…

hi all, this might not be the right forum. i couldn't find a better one though...can anybody tell me if it's worth it buying dual channel ram over "regular" ram when assembling a new system with all other components being unaltered? (i plan on an amd 64 3000+ with 1 gb ram and maybe a geforce 6200 256mb)my question is if i could expect to notice a difference in fps (especially with the pmdg 737) when running fs9 with dual channel ram instead of single channel ram.i really want to avoid spending extra money on things that won't let me actully see a difference in performance.thanks for the input!regards

I have a P4 2.66GHz CPU, in an ABit BD 7II motherboard,, and running 1GB of PC2100 DDR memory. Video card is a Radeon 9800 (128). I don't over-clock.Without a major change to hardware (which I assume a new motherboard is), is it possible to upgrade just the memory to get a better performance? This old system which I bult is now 3 years old (hard to believe), still performs OK but I'm wondering about low cost options for increasing performance. At POST I see 2666 / 133, being I assume CPU speed and FSB.Thanks for any suggestions, running XP Home.Bruce.

So for the last many years I've been running a P4 1.8 Ghz. Rather than shelling out the $$$ for a fully new system, I just purchased a P4 2.4Ghz OEM processor to upgrade to.I'm hoping for a significant performance increase in FS2004.Has anyone done a similar upgrade and can comment on performance?

Hi there.I have been looking around the forums and thought this was an ideal place to put my problems seeing as there is such alot of knowledgeable people out there!Right well here we go.I have Fs2004 running on in my opinion a decent system (see specs. below) however FS still continues to be stubborn.I have tried everything new drivers (forceware and the released WHQL's) to no avail. I formatted and reinstalled windows and fs9 but still I get the same prob. I can hold 50 FPS if I pan around it drops but then gets upto 50 in no time once the panning stops, however whilst taxying, taking off, T&G, Landing and just about noticeable when flying there is this micro stutte…

Hi all,I ran across an interesting article that says in LOMAC, with the new Cat 5.6, users may see up to 50% increase in performance mainly due to cloud texture compression with ATI catalyst ai.NOTE: This is only for those of us with an ATI Video card. Now, if LOMAC gets an increase off of these, maybe FS9 will too. Here is the article:http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=23594From the article:"New Catalyst 5.6 to give big boost to PC games10 to 50 per cent emerged"And this:"The game that will benefit the most is Lock on: Modern Air combat where you will be able to see an incredible fifty per cent performance increase just by installing a new 5.6 Catalyst driver. ATI cataly…

When running FS Auto-start, it tells me my available memory is only 700-something, yet I have a gig. I have no onboard video, disabled onboard sound, and can't figure out where my memory went? Even shutting down all the processes it still says less memory than I should have. Also when I try to defrag the memory using the FS Auto-start program, FS runs horribly slow and pauses ever other second. I have an AMD fx-55, epox motherboard with latest bios drivers, ati x850xt, 1 gb ddr-4000 ram, windows xp sp2.
