While intuitive contrary I have found that the minimum setting of 4 Mb for may AGP aperture in BIOS is best. By this I mean that with a setting of 128Mb (1/2 of RAM memory) looking out the side window of the RealAir Cessna 172 the view stutters. That is it appears to run at a slow frames/second rate despite the indicated FPS being above 30. However, if I set the AGP aperture in BIOS to 4Mb (my lowest setting) the same view is smooth. I can detect no drop in FPS and no other negative factors. I saw this on my old GeForce MX400 64mb video card but assumed it was something in the old card. Now running Radeon/ATI 9800SE 128mb and find the unusual setting continues to offer a …

Was just reading about the new card over at www.hardocp.com and one of the things it's capable of is antialiasing alpha transparencies, which SHOULD eliminate shimmering and jagged lines on aircraft liveries. The card appears to be able to do this with little to no performance loss based on the benchmarks and is faster than two 6800 Ultras running in SLI mode. Looks to be a real winner, the only problem of course is the $600+ price tag...

I have had the XP Service Pack 2 on hold for a number of months but have not been game to install it for fear of wreckingmy stable system.I'm beginning to think I should take the plunge as I've heard that unless it is installed I will not be able to take advantage of other security updates. Are there any horror stories I should be aware of before I throw caution to the wind?ThanksAndy b

I am running FS9 with an AMD 2700, 1 gig of RAM, and an FX5200 video card. Kind of a low end system but it has been performing beautifully until yesterday when all of a sudden all of my scenery textures have hard edges. The system is no longer dithering between different landclass textures and instead of blending them they have sharp edges around the LOD cells for landclass. At first I suspected a file conflict since I have been heavily involved in the scenery project over at http://fs-freeflow.com/ . Does anyone have any suggestions? Do you think this sounds like a hardware problem and could a video card start doing that when some part of it fails? Thanks for any s…

Hey all,I have a semi-acceptable system, I guess. I have an x800xt, AIW (bah, I hate the AIW mess) already on board, but I have removed it & gone back to a 9800Pro for the time being. The reasoning is not due to problems, but rather I am wanting an x850xt Pro (no AIW), and I gave the old my my brother & sister in law for them to use, & allow the children to use.Anyways, what is the general concensus on the x850xt Pro? I would go AGP, as I am not worried about a future upgrade to PCI-e, as I will completely rebuild this system in 2-3yrs without a doubt, if not sooner. I am not too worried about frame rate issues, as I seem to do well with even the old 9800 …

Can someone who owns an AMD 64 FX55 please share performance information. I'm truly enjoying the new FREEFLOW Florida scenery but find that the performance is not as good in the St. Petersburg area as in other areas. I'm looking for someone who can perform a flight from Clearwater airpark to Whitted and tell me what kind of framerates they are getting. I'm very interested in the St. Pete area. Freeflow has done an outstanding job with this scenery - I'm hooked! On my system flying the SF 260 I get between 15 and 22 FPS with extremely dense settings and weather as advised by ASV. Not good considering I'm getting around 40 in most areas. I will post my spects bellow, b…

I have fs9 installed on a C: 200MB HDD running x32 bit XP Home SP2. No problems there with the usual gift of addons including UT, FE2004, PMDG, PSS Airbus, FSBuild2, Active Camera, Active Sky. Decent FPS achieved on my AMD64 3400+ using a Radeon 9800SE softmodded to a Pro.Recently installed a new Hitachi 40MB HDD to be used purely for x64 XP. Installed 64bit XP fine, works great, definate improvement in performance as expected. But, Instead of reinstalling FS9 & addons, I reference the C: installation. Took a wee bit of work but FS9 works fine and most addons work following various DLL and OCX registrations. Performance appears to be superior BUT ... 1) FS9 itself oft…

I posted about this in the General Discussion forum a while back and I'm still having the same problems. Very often (nearly every flight), my FS9 goes to black screen. My monitor is responding as if it is in "standby" mode with a flashing power light.I also hear alternating on/off high pitched "static like" sounds coming from my PC speakers. I cannot recover from this situation except to hard-boot the P.C. I started down a few paths, even re-installed FS with NO add-on's on it's own drive and I'm STILL getting these annoying crashes. Later, I bought DOOM3 and saw the EXACT SAME crash playing this game. The only thing I've seen in forum posts that is closely related to my …

Hi There, First post. Relatively new to simmming also, so please bear with my n00bness. I've just purchased a Saitek X45 after realising that flying with keys is quite difficult!I have a slight problem. When I bank the wings and then return the joystick the center to roll out of the bank, the wings remain banked and I have to move the joystick to the opposite direction to get the plane back to level flight. It's a similar story when pitching the nose up or down (but not quite as severe). Now, correct me if I'm wrong (which I probably am) but if I have the joystick at the center position, isn't the plane supposed to fly according to how the rudder/pitch trims are set? Many…

hi, im just a little annoyed at having frame rates at around 5 and 6 at the moment. My computer has a 256MB geforce gfx card, 1024 ram, 120 gb harddrive, 3.07 ghz ht processor, latest drivers, hardly anything on it, all scan disks etc done, but on all games my frame rates are just inexcusable. ive spoken to pc world and they just shrugged it off sayings its good and nothing to worry about, maybe u shud get urself an accelerator program.simply this computer should be able to take games and run them fairly well, i shoudlnt have to accelerate or tweak.p.s i will be selling this computer soon, does any1 want it. Ill be selling it around
