hello all!i am looking into putting a new pc together and i would like to somehow get FS running (with a bunch of sceneries and aircraft) but while maintaining at least 20fps.i am reading things about DDR2 memory and 64 bit and serial ATA harddrives. when over at the screenshot forum i see that edetroit has a nice systems and makes crisp clear screenshots, however.... photoshop and the pause button can do miracles.....who could suggest a top system (with brandnames) that will get me great results... not good, but great :)does busspeed come into play? PCIe cards, which ones etc... who can advise?thanks guys!take care,matthewhttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/837308/2072.pn…

Pleading for help from anyone here...The new system is now up and running and FS9 performance is miles better (was 15-20FPS, usually around 30-40FPS)But every three-or-four seconds there is a split-second pause (the dreaded stutters - Even on the 'select a flight' page, the stock cessna - pauses it's pirouet every few seconds).and it's driving me utterly spare!- I have FS in it's own partition, freshly formatted and rebooted- I have the latest Catalyst ATI drivers (5.4) and DirectX- I deleted the FS9.cfg to ensure it created a default one.How come the system is able to push-out around 70 frames a second (panning round the cessna on the threshold at KSEA) and then every co…

I was wondering if it was possible to have dual monitor horizontal stretch in full screen mode with ATI Catalyst Control Centre? I am able to get it to work in the desktop, and with FS9 running in window mode, but when I switch to full screen, I get two views of the same thing, one on each monitor, instead of one view streched over the two monitors. Basically it treats it as if it's in clone mode when in full screen. Is there something I am missing, or is horizontal stretch only possible in window mode? Thanks,Bill

Hi all,Everyone seems to rant about these drivers, so I tried them, I didnt notice any difference at all, so I am starting to think maybe they didnt install right or something? I have the Omega Control Center thing, but is the a sure-fire way to confirm everything is installed as it should be?

I want to upgrade to an Athlon64-based system but don't want the hassle of having to reload everything. Is there a way I can do it? I currently use a socket A Athlon on a VIA based board. If I upgrade to an Athlon64 also using a VIA chipset, can I get away with not having to reload all of my programs? I just want to replace my MB and CPU and keep eveything else: my ATI 9800Pro, 80Gb harddrive (and current contents), sound card, 1Gb 3200 SDRAM, etc... I want to be able to drop it in and go. I think you know what I am saying. Can I do it, and will it work? Thanks,RH

I am not obsessed with trying to get the highest possible scores using benchmark utilities, I was just curious as to how my system ran. Well after doing a few tests, I am a little concerned about some of the results. Now the first screenshot shows a guy who has a score of about 4300, and mine was 4118, I am only interested in the part beside the red line. Now keep in mind my system in both shots is the light gray one and the comparing system is dark grey. As you can see they performed similar in most of the areas except the last, mine is drastically lower, about 500FPS lower.http://members.shaw.ca/stangrecki/lowscore1.jpgNow this next shot is someone who got a score of ab…

Hey there,I want to do some upgrading next month if possible, and was wandering about a couple of things. I will be purchasing an AMD Athlon64 3800 with the Venice core, and 1 gig of Corsair XMS DDR400 RAM. Can anyone recommend a great, reliable socket 939 motherboard that uses the nForce4 chipset and still has AGP? If it has AGP and SLI support, that's fine, but it must have AGP. The reason being, I do not have the money to go with an SLI setup at this time, so I'll be sticking with my ATI 9800Pro 128 video card for time being. I am also very apprehensive about going with a VIA chipset motherboard because of past bad experiences with VIA.Any information or ideas are …

Yesterday I paid one of my somewhat irregular visits to the Windows Update site and installed the following recommended updates:KB901214KB890830KB903235KB898461A reboot was necessary to complete the installation, at which point the problem surfaced. The system would not reboot! In fact trying a reset and even a cold boot produced the same result every time: the bios appeared to detect the floppy and optical drives before the boot stopped. No beeps, no graphic card detection, no text on the monitor screen, nada. So, the cover came off, checked the fans were all working and reseated the graphics card. The system then rebooted all the way into Windows. System temps were as be…

Any idea why ATI dropped it's normal (smaller) monthly driver update? Looks like we now have to use that larger one which also forces us to run another MS program in the background to get to the control panel.http://www.ati.com/TerryPS: There is a note about some FS2004 AA/AF stuff in this update.

Hello highly clever people, i wonder if you can help me out...I was wondering what sort of performance I could get with Flight sim 2004 with a system based around Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz chip, 1024RAM, Geforce 6600 256MB AGP.....what do you think? At the moment im running FS on my laptop, pentium 2.8 chip, 512MB RAM, 64MB Geforce Go video card. It runs okay as long as i have traffic on zero percent, i usually have AA on, and full detail on planes, low Scenery detail. I find this is fine for my requirements, but id like to see some traffic at airports without getting highly jerky framerates. Which is why I thought about playing fs2004 on my desktop PC with above specs. I'm …

I'm stuck with a PCI motherboard -- no AGP slot. Currently I have a Radeon 9100 with 128Mb RAM. Is there anything available now that can beat this? E.g., FX5700? Thanks for any advice.

I tried to change the PCI latency of my ATI 9800 pro from 255 to 64 using PCI Latency tool 2.3 and the setting will not stick after a restart. I have saved, applied, and checked apply on startup, but it will not permanetly stay. I also tried to set it using ATI tool 0.24, but it will also not stay after a startup. Anyone have any other ideas on how to change this, or what could be causing it to not stay set? I read the post in Tips and Tricks, but that did not help my situation.ThanksBill

No, I'm not talking about the OAT, although it feels like 60 degrees here now (but it's only 30).Right now, not playing, just lurking about quite calmly, the hw monitor and BIOS power management reads 60 deg. cpu temerature. I haven't made any changes to the computer lately, but seem to remember it was down below 40 deg. earlier on.So what can I do to get the temp down, my cpu fan is just three month old, and not of the cheapest kind. I also have case fans, but the side is off so I don't know how much that helps.Would it help to reinstall the cpu fan with new paste, and in that case, what can go wrong?brEagle

Greetings all,FS now officially brings my system (P4 2.4GHz, 512 MB RAM, old-ish GeForce Ti4200) to its knees. With the LDS 767, ActiveSky and AI, I was getting not more than 1 or 2 FPS on approach - not a pretty sight, and I can't stand it. Now, I have read somewhere that the key to FS smoothness is really the CPU. I called my local PC store, and they can upgrade it to a P4 3GHZ, 1 GB RAM (although I would prefer 2 GB) for a very reasonable price (only P4 3GHz since I'd rather not change the motherboard, but that's not a final decision). What do you think? What about the Athlon CPUs?I also have the option of buying an entirely new system (Athlon64 3500, 1GB RAM, 250GB HD…

Just got my son his first computer, it came with a GeForce FX5700LE card in it. I know thats not the greatest card but I got a good deal on the PC. Anyone figured out which drivers work the best on this card for FS9. I put the newest Nvidia drivers in it but was not pleased with how it looked in FS9. Thanks in advanceB. Bjorkman
