Hi All, A little advice if someone has the time please.I am using the "onboard" sound for my system. (nVidia 6800 LE 128Mg) Will this adversly affect the smooth running of FS9? My local computer shop suggested there would be little to gain from a separate sound card and I've been happy to accept that (on the grounds that they could have just sold me one and taken my money :0) ) However speaking to a friend recently he suggested that using onboard sound (although it seems to work well) would detract from smooth running of the system. I'd be greatful for any advice. (In reasonably simple terms please - as I'm yet to understand computers too well - although I'm trying :-) …

Hi there, just recently I've been getting some very drastic performance decreases in FS9. Usually I get pretty stable 27 - 30 FPS with sliders almost max with the exeption of AI.Long story short. Now I get 10 - 15, sometimes going down to 4 -7. I did my first uninstall of MSFS in years, checked for viruses (avast latest def. file) and ran spybot to see whats going on - nothing found. I run from a clean boot and even fsautostart didn't make a change. What's bothering me is that with default Cessna I get good performance but as soon as I load Level-D or Aeroworx I get the drastic decrease. Sometimes changing from bilinear to trilinear helps but only for a few seconds.BTW, I'…

What the best option. Tighting the DDR Ram timing or increasing the FSB? If I set my DDR at 2.0 (rather than 2.5) I can increase the FSB to only 205mhz before "crash" If I reduce the DDR to 2.5 I can increase the FSB to 220mhz. Any thoughts?Regards,Andrew.

Gents,My system specs are posted below.I am planning an upgrade to be up to date with current hardware available on the market.I do not really have any spending limit (would stay out of Cray though if possible) but would like to replace my key components with the ones allowing me to enjoy the FS to its fullest.I will be truly grateful for hints on what to look for to do a comprehensive upgrade of my system. Thanks a lot in advance,Dom

ehehe, I've been building this computer since last November...eheh,AMD 3400, 512 Corsair ram, 2 Raptors in Raid 0. Now I'm considering video options and would appreciate advice and opinions. My budget at the moment is 150.00. I am looking at the 6600GT and the 6800. Both cards are available in the price range.1st Question> Which one?2nd question> I plan to use at least 2 monitors as I am now. 1 for guages and Flightkeeper type displays, the other for the main view. I think either of those two cards will do nicely in this application. But I am also building a Simpit and it cries out for 3 monitors. What is you guys opinions of adding an inexpensive PCI card for a 3rd m…

I have recently finished upgrading my PC as it was getting a little old, I use it for many things including FS2004...I started by putting 1 Gig of RAM in there, and then added a Geforce 6600 256MB AGP video card. With an Intel Pentium 4 2GHz Northwood that was already in there i was getting good frame rates (minimum of around 20FPS)I am using add-on planes from iFDG and scenery like ISD's italian airports - I think this is pretty good performance with just a 2Ghz chip. But now i've added a Intel Pentium 4 3.2Ghz Prescott (and motherboard)So what performance can i expect with this set up now? I dont know yet as i have yet to re-install windows XP (microsoft consider new mot…

The Dell PC that I'm using as my main FS system came with this card:ATI Radeon X800SE (a.k.a. dumbed-down X800 card) - 425mHz graphics processor 128Mb 800mHz SDDR RAM 256 bit memory bus 8 pixel pipelines 6 vertex processors PCI-Express interfaceWhen I originally bought this system last year, new in the box but from an individual, I planned to immediately upgrade the video card. But, after playing FS9, Doom3, and Half Life 2 on it, I decided that it wasn't such a bad card after all so I've been "living with it" for quite a while. It's actually held up pretty well for being a purpose-built OEM variation on the X800 line.Lately, though, I've been wondering whether a &…

Hi all,Sorry if this has been posted already, I did a search and was unable to find what I was looking for. Anyway, I'm putting together a new rig with an Athlon 64 processor and was curious if it was worth it to buy XP 64 as opposed to regular XP. I have read that several drivers are incompatible and with a relatively low number of current 64-bit games doesn't seem to make much sense. The gaming extent of my new computer will be limited to mostly FS and other slightly less "taxing" games. Any advice/suggestions you all can provide would be greatly appreciated...thanks a lotPatrick Brand

I am just setting up a new machine with Windows XP, and am creating partitions etc.I have left the bottom C: partition for Windows. I seem to remember that experts here recommended putting the paging file on a separate partition.I'd be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Many thanks.--Bryn

My new video card arrived yesterday (GeForce 6600 GT) and I have a standard 19" flat tube hooked up along with a 19" LCD. Is there anything special I need to get the most out of dual monitors with FS9? I tried firing up FS9 last night and all I got was a black screen on the tube and my LCD just showed the desktop image. I'm thinking that since I switched cards, FS9 might be a little goofed up. Anyway, what I'd like to do is just take things like the GPS, FSEconomy, Active Sky etc on the LCD and the main cockpit window on the tube. Do you have to run FS9 in windowed mode to do that? Thanks.Dondo

My new machine has 2 SATA hard drives which I have set up as mirrored drives. (It wasn't intentional, but that is the way it ended up after problems I had getting Windows to find hard disks to install itself onto in the absence of any IDE hard disk on the machine).Presumably there is a FS performance penalty in using two drives in this way, compared with using just a single drive, as the CPU has to do more disk writing when it should be improving the FPS :). Any idea how much of a penalty?(I know I could theoretically get performance gains by operating the two drives in a striped configuration, but I don't want to take the additional failure risk).--Bryn

Ok, after troubleshooting and finally getting flightsim 2004 to boot with all 3 devices plugged in, now I have another problem...How do I get flightsim to use all 3 devices? Do I have to figure out that CH config manager thingy? And also, any suggestions on how to make the rudder pedals even stickier on my carpet? The rubber foot pads help but it still slides back as I push on the rudders. And no, nailing anything to the floor is out of the question.... :(

Hi there,Though I bought FS2004 a year ago, I only installed it yesterday after upgrading my computer to the following specs:ASUS A8V Deluxe MotherboardAMD Athlon 64 3000+ Processor1GB ExtremeX DDR PC3200 (400Mhz) Dual-Channel RAMGeForce MX4000 128MB Video Card (AGP 8X)Win98SEWhen I installed the program, I set my sliders to mid-high ranges, and locked the FPS to 30. However, I did disable AutoGen and AI traffic. Alas, my framerates at Toronto-Pearson with the default 737 were less than 12. That seems unreasonably low given my new system specs. In fact it's not that much different than what I was getting with a P4 1.4 and 640 SDRAM. I'm wondering if there's somethin…
