Found this on Boing Boinghttp://www.boingboing.net/2009/01/01/free-...res-images.htmlA company has released their blue marble (whole earth) data set at 250m/pixel. That's twice the resolution available from NASA.It's a 15 Gigapixel image overall.I might include this in Tileproxy Beta 9, as this is Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution licensedChristian

Happy new year, all!I have some questions about level mapping, and the LOD rings. Are the sizes of the LOD rings fixed? If so, what are they?Do the sizes depend on the number of rings? If I specify a minimum LOD of 14 and a maximum of 15, does TP affect a smaller area around the aircraft than if I specify 11-17?If I use level mapping to increase the LOD further away, does it really display at the higher resolution at that distance, or does it just downsample the higher res images to what FSX was going to use?I'm sorry for asking so many questions, but I've been using this program quite a bit, and would love to get more out of it.Thanks,David

I have no issue with TP8 and have had a couple of great flights. Haven't used TP in ages back to when CB first came forward with the earliest version. At that time, I used g**gle earth service. I understand that this is no longer possible (or at least I think so). I want to fly Vancouver Island, and g**gle has great high resolution over large areas. I have tried the three other services under the new version and they are not providing clear higher resolution for Vancouver Island.I tried the older, used to work above service and all I get are black tiles. Does anyone know of a service that provides higher resolution for areas in British Columbia and in particular Vancou…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAYUzhxrLCQMake sure you set your youtube account playback preferences to high bandwidth and then select the "HD quality" version for playback. This is just amazing. Flying low and ... fast! ;)Christian

Hi, I'm new here...but I searched the forum and read the manual, honest! ;)I've only been using this great add-on for a few days, but I already have about 1GB of data. (I've been messing with level mapping and sending my machine off for the night to get stuff). Now I'm hoping for a way to backup this precious resource, and possibly transfer it to another machine. If you could clue me in to what would be required to perform the following:1. Backup my cached files in a way that could be retrieved into a different installation2. Change the location of the cache to another hard drive with more free space while retaining the rest of my installation3. Map multiple workstations …

Now that we can no longer access Google textures, I am finding that Y*** textures are quite good for mainland US - but far inferior elsewhere in the world.Just wondering what places outside US people have found good textures? Thanks Barry

Hey all, Have FS9, and have been using Beta 8. But, I was getting the dreaded black tiles soon after starting a flight, in a huge ring around the aircraft. Ed Truthan's workaround, where you essentially "trick" the preload into disabling, worked like a charm so far. Simply make in preload 9, and max preload 10. Will report findings as I continue to fly, but so far, no problems at all and sharp textures for 140 knot flying in the Baron!CB

I did say VFR for scenery, but I had to be IFR rated to handle the cloud deck. So, sometimes it's fun to mingle with the clouds as well.v.8 TP.Near Jefferson, NC.http://www.weatherroanoke.com/wm/GEVthumb.jpgMovie link:http://www.weatherroanoke.com/wm/GEVflight.mp4For those who prefer YouTube but it will not be nearly as crisp and clear, and NOT in stereo sound.

I'm thinking about getting the new hot Flight1 Cessna Mustang. It (and increasingly more new titles) requires SP2.I'm using Vista 32b just fine so far. For SP2 I've heard about runway problems, older aircraft not working at all, etc.But what I REALLY care about is that SP2 does NOT hurt or ruin TileProxy. Any experiences out there?I'm also nervous about the IDEAL of a clean install. I have so many aircraft and addons with keys, etc. I'm hesitant to start all over again. But TP and SP2 is what I'm interested in right now. Thanks.

I have just started using TP and tweaked my settings with Service 1. This is truly an amazing gem that Christian Buchner has brought to everyone involved with the FS world. I have a new Core i7 and TP works astonishingly fast with my 15Mbps down stream. Every tile is extremely high resolution and absolutely stunning with no blurries. 5 years ago, I would have never dreamed of this type of realism with a Flight Sim product. With that thought, what about 5 years from now? Would real world Scenery be the next big thing to add to flight sim? With services such as Pictometry that give you the "bird's eye view" feature at live.com, we could combine the high resolution obli…

I bet this has been asked before but was wondering (before I install this) if there is a difference in the quality between the two? I have only viewed videos of tileproxy on youtube which is low quality. Thanks for any advice.

Hi Christian, thanks for the great tool you gave to the Flight Simulator community!Since its performance is rather slow on my single core Intel Pentium M notebook with 1,86GHz, I just tried Mark Russinovich's Process Explorer on TileProxy and found out that TileProxy is constantly using about 6% of the available CPU time - even if it does not seem to download anything. So my idea is that the constant update of the console may be a performance hog (you know, when all the truly nice ASCII circles are drawn etc.)Would it be possible to give TileProxy an option to disable that constant update? For me, it was sufficient to have a console showing with which configuration options…

HelloI have a problem with the resolution. Before I fly a location, I check it from the website of the service 3 if the area is covered with high res. For example let's assume I will fly above Istanbul. All the area is covered with high resolution textures when I check it in the webpage. But when I start to fly in that location in the FSX, the resolution is very different. The detail levels of the textures are very different in the game. How can I solve this problem? I have the Tileproxy (V8.1) and I have the latest proxyuser.ini file and I did not modify anything. How can I solve this?

Hello AllJust downloaded tileproxy but am having some problems getting it to run correctly. From the screens I can see I know this will be a great program to use.So installed tile proxy into fsx and put the other two folders into a folder on the desktop I downloaded the .INI file and placed it in the root tile proxy folder I also edited the .INI file so that it would download from the yahoo maps server but when i loaded Fsx the ground was black . I could see the airport runway and tarmac but everything else was black I tried reloading tile proxy and fsx but with no luck. Also when I load a free flight in fsx it doesn't seem to take all that long to load it seems to be lo…

Hi,flying with Service 3, it happens frequently to get the message: "JPEG decoding problem at level 14, .... numbers.... len = 4914".Can this affect the scenery? if yes, Is there anything we can do?Best regardsciaoGiovanni

Hi tileproxy enthusiastsI'm having a great timeupdating some of my favorite locations, however at this particular airport pago pago International (America Samoa Island Tutuila)I have huge differance between Imagery and Mesh both with default mesh and a 10 meter mesh that I compiled for the Island)I am using the Service Example 3 which has good coverage of the IslandCould someone with a little time on ther hands validate there findings especialy flying around some of the bays using y maps service 3as I find a huge difference between imagery and terrain on default FSX terrain and 10 meter ThankyouCompiled 10 meter bgl10 Meter TutuilaThe 10 meter resolution of mesh I compile…

Autogen.I finally got TP working perfectly, loading quickly with NO ISSUES.Really I guess it would be nice to have trees in the mountain regions. Buildings would probably be too hard since the program wouldnt know where to place them based on the actual .bmp.Is there any option in the works for autogen. I seem to remember something about that.

hi, i tried tileproxy version 7 earlier this year and had some decent results but didn't really use it regularly since i think my machine is a bit slow for it, i was very intrigued about the changes in beta 8 as possibly improving that so i installed the new one. for starters i put ed t's ini file in there, modified the directories to point to my folders, start tileproxy, then fsx (checked LOD scenery layer is below the others) and let 'er rip.it seems like the driver itself is working, but when i fly i basically only see the "photoreal globe" texture and a few tiles with what looks like smaller versions of that texture. the tileproxy dos window never switches to showing …

Using XP SP3, with the latest .NET framework on a 2.8ghz Pentium 4 with 1 gig of ram and plenty of disk space, a 256mb ATI Radeon 9250 video card. I have FSX standard SP2.My problem is so confusing I ask WHY ME????I download the program, it gives me what seems to be a good install. Until I take the step where I go to my Start Menu, All Programs. I can't find the folder to start the program. So I reinstalled it. Nothing. Then I logged off, and while my wife was trying to do something on her "side", and asked for my help, I noticed she had the TileProxy folder under her Start Menu. FSX is not under login, I loaded the program FROM my login, why the HECK does it show up…

I've overhauled the Tileproxy code a bit - it was a big ugly mess. Now it is only a regular mess. That's some progress for ya.I am shifting the caching away from individual BMP files - moving towards storing an entire cluster (Essentially each * you see in the DOS Box represents such a cluster - up to 1024 tiny BMP files).Right now my Tileproxy test version is able fill up the LOD circles in 3 seconds - if I've flown at that particular location before. Before it would take 20 seconds or more. Also I've been able to lower the memory requirements during flight a bit, and I intend to further improve this part.Another thing I want to improve is the "Blue Marble" image. It does …
