This is one of those golden finds that comes along only once a decade or so in the simming world. Someone has written open source software which "intercepts" the machine language code of every day software and optimizes it on the fly. A typical algorithm of three or four hundred instructions can be reduced by a factor of four or more. The product is called "four-one". 4X speed and have no clue what the one means. I meant to post a link here, but the phone just rang so I have to answer it. But what a great find, eh? I am sure someone will google it in my absence.-John

Unfortunately, I have only one computer, and thats for working, and I want another dedicated to flightsimming and gaming. I am currently almost broke, but I do have a PS2 with Linux kit. So, can FS9 somehow run on Linux? I am aware that for Windows 2000 and XP it takes 128 MB RAM and for 98 and ME, it takes 64. If it works on linux (I hope so), how much RAM would it take?

I just tried the V4 Posky 747 classic. I'm somewhat disappointed. I flew the NW old color version. I have loved Posky aircraft but since the last version of the 767 the air files have been not to my liking. I'm not going to say unrealistic because I'm not a 767 or a 747 pilot. I have RFP to compare too. The engine fan texture is very poor. The ground steering is aweful. At one point I was drifting sideways which was very odd. At 10 knt on the ground it is difficult to steer and the rear wheels do not track the front. The strobes look vintage fs2000 compared too other freeware. I'm going to tweak some to fix to my liking. It seems if the previous version was better but aga…

At some airports you have the option to fly the approach via a FIX point ... most airports do not have any other choice accept doing the zig-zag ATC approach. Is there software available to alter the different approaches for a specific airport, to be able to add an option in the above mentioned menu for ANOTHER APPROACH to a specific runway?Kind regardsTerblanche

Hi everyone,I've read some good reviews about Flight Environment and ActiveSky and on this forum I realized some people bought both add-ons. Don't you think these two add-ons are nearly similar, as far as sky and clouds are concerned since ActiveSky brings new sky and cloud textures ? I think we can get best sky effects only with ActiveSky and in that case, Flight Environment will be useful only for water textures ...Your opinion about it ?Regards,Damien - LFQQ.http://damiendelille.free.fr/Cliparts/Avion.gif

I have been adding some missing Greenland airport bgls over the past few days, and thought I would add a helicopter pad to each one, using Rwy12. It all looks quite nice now, with the AVSIM Greenland heliports file in place, but I have one infuriating problem. I have used Rwy12 "Chopper Pads - Lt. Finney" to add the 'Octagon with nets' pad. It is raised above the ground and accessed by some steps. But every time I start up a flight on one of these pads, the helicopter sits on the ground below the pad, so that the pad cuts the chopper in half vertically, so to speak. I have tried everything to correct this that I can think of - including altering the elevation of the airp…

Multiple choice. Do the Fly! II addon sceneries in the AV Sim library often, sometimes, never work in FS9? Don't laugh. I don't know, so I ask...There's one in there for my local airport, Roberts Field (KRDM), serving Bend/Redmond, in Central Oregon. It's gotta be better than the stock airport, IF it works. Or is that stuff a whole 'nother breed o' cat?BTW, maybe a year ago, there was some mumbling here and/or at the FS forums that a new, high quality scenery for the whole of Central Oregon, Cascade mountains, etc., was soon to be released. Possibly from Holger Sandmann... possibly payware... Since then, heard/read nothing about it. Anyone else heard anything latel…

Do I achieve anything by setting Filtering to Trilinear in the UI and notching up the Degree of Anisotropy in the driver (nVidia in my case) to Level 8. Are this settings alternative, competing or even conflicting with each other? Maybe I should delegate the filtering to the game engine by setting the driver on Application Controlled? I can't see the immediate difference turning them on and off and application controlled, but who knows what I may see in the clouds or photorealistic areas etc.? What are your experiences and considerations on this particular GFX setting? Thanks.

Does anyone know what would be causing this problem? It lasted about 5 minutes before reverting to normal. I've shown the problem panel and the normal panel. It's an old model (Bill Lyons' Waco) - could this be a clue? Thanks in advanceFrog

If I am committing the mortal sin of asking a question that has been asked numerous times, forgive, I am on my way out and am frustrated, thus did not search.I recently purchased a new laptop for when I am on the road and made sure it could handle FlightSim. I picked up a copy of FS X Deluxe (luckily a used one, so I was only out 25 bucks) and though it runs fine on the laptop with all sliders at at least 75%, I find it most unrewarding. Oh sure, nice little details on the ground and moving traffic flits about - oh joy, problem is, I spend most of my time at FL330 or higher - so big deal. The backwards compatability stinks and aircraft add-ons are slow in coming while man…

  21. I cannot install from my CD and have posted on the FlightDeck forum along with sending an email or two. However, if I understand what I am reading correctly version 1 of FDC is no longer supported, so I thought I would give this one final shot on this forum in the event that anyone has been down this road and found a solution. I am a little apprehensive at purchasing the latest release in the fear that it might do the same thing. My post to FDC was as follows:I recently upgraded my computer with new hardware for improved results with FSX, including new harddrives. I have everything reinstalled with the exception of FlightDeck Companion with which I am having the following …

Hey everyone. Just curious as if anyone has heard of Synchro Sound? There is Turbine Sound Studios which I do know as the Dev has made fantastic freeware here, but this other one I have never heard of. The reason I ask is, they just released an ATR72 soundset. The sample on simmarket doesn't sound over the top to me. I didn't know if this was someone who just takes some recordings and throws them together, then charges money for it. Mr Peterson over at TSS records from the real deal and has a great reputation, but this other one doesn't even have a website. Your input is appreciated.
