Crash To Desktop (CTD) Forum

CTD's are a simmer's nightmare. This subforum is established to specifically discuss CTD's. Please do not place CTD messages in the main FSX, FS9, or P3D forums. If you do, they will most likely be moved to this forum.

On another thread, http://forum.avsim.net/topic/444488-need-cheering-up-los-angeles-did-the-trick/?p=3012008#entry3012008, a poster called MFD86 suggested that my problems with OOMS and GA flying over ORBX England might be prevented by disabling any ORBX airfields in my scenery list. I'd set up FSX the way I'd wanted it after 6 months of purchases and tweaks, it upset me to find my new A2A Cherokee hitting OOMS or OOM warnings just flying 30 mins from one ORBX field to another. So I've been testing with the FSUIPC VAS monitor and I thought I'd share my results. Free VAS goes up and down I found, and there are certain things which were very strange! For the test …

  2. Probably a "local" problem here, but interesting. If I am running P3D and go to the toolbar and click on World / Scenery Library ... then make ANY change in the library, (even unclicking a scenery and reclicking it) ... when i exit the scenery library and the program reloads, it hangs up at 69% just when the autogen starts being added in. It is not a variable, I can make this happen every time I change the scenery library. I let it sit there for 3 hours one day ... it is hung up, not just slow. I don't think it is a P3D problem ... I'm betting something is screwy with my setup ... anyone got an idea?

  3. I occasionally have a CTD but usually (thank goodness) they are rare enough, or can be attributed to something dumb that I have done and can be un-done, that I haven't paid too much attention to them.. In the past 2 days I have had 2 CTD's in P3D v2.2. One occurred in flight with the Airbus X while switching views, and the other with the Duke v2 sitting at KDEN ( FlightBeam version), with the aircraft running at idle and no movement other than AI traffic. I have EXCA and Ultimate Traffic 2 running, and am running Windows 8.1 / 64 bit. I have several virus scanners that i thought were turned off from scanning. Back in February of 2013 I had some CTD's and dow…

I get this chime from FSUIPC which I think is warning me that I'm close to OOM. It usually happened on approach and landing, but sometimes can happen after departure. I have an I7 with 8 gigs of ram. I have FSX with WOAI, RC (Radar Contact), UTX, FSUIPC, and no addon planes. Sometimes FSX crashes saying it ran out of memory, and other times it doesn't. This is really annoying me though. So is there anything I can do to make this not happen anymore? Or is there any tweak I can do? Thanks very much and I sure hope I can get this solved.

  7. Hi, I have just bought a new Dell inspiron 15r (unfortunately with defaulted windows 8) and have installed FSX on it, but notice it keeps crashing whenever I start, load, save or end a flight when I've crashed the plane. I have installed the 2sp's for FSX but that hasn't fixed the problem. I have also updated win 8 to 8.1 but that still hasn't fixed the problem. I only use Just Flight 742s, 743s, 332s, 333s, 342s, 343s, and md80s and have no freeware planes taken out. All of the settings except graphics and aircraft quality are at absolute minimal! How do I fix this? (BTW I also have an unused Win 7 Dell XPS Gaming Laptop that's currently at the repair shop 'cause…

Hi guys, I have this problem and I hope someone could help me. FSX crashes to desktop any time I'm flying a route (a generic fatal error appears) and it crashes only DURING cruise, NOT when taxiing, taking off, landing, neither when I'm climbing or descending... in short NOT when I have the control of the plane, BUT when the plane goes simply over its route (with ap of course). There are NO gauges or windows opened, nor I pass and click from a knob or a windows to another too quickly. Framerate is stable, and it seems there are not memory issues. And if i reload the save flight, after some minutes it crashes again. It happened with different liner from different addon, b…

Oh I thought my problems were behind me! My system is fast and robust, i7 quad core, overclocked, with a GTX 760, I've been running ORBX England at 30 fps locked with any plane and with the A2A 172 and Cherokee it has not dipped at all. Recently I've been hearing the warning bells on long flights between UK2000 airports, one of them being an Xtreme, where I drop to 22 fps. But now every flight longer than 15 mins ends in a CTD and OOM. The ASN weather is simply fair weather, traffic is light in the area.... this never happened before. I can't think what might cause a change and I dont know what to do. Sliders are set 3/4 just as they always have been. Disturbingly,…

I thought my PC problems were gone today but the darn PC booted again today with a black screen (after the windows logo). So I let it sit for a while, turned it off, and rebooted. This time I got a BSOD (from bootup) with code 116 and nvlddmkm.sys as the file erroring.... From my research this appears to be GPU related but could be anything. I've done no changes to my video card, no driver updates lately etc.... The card itself is clean, and I've reseated it recently and all connections are secure. This is all from a fresh install of Windows using my old SSD (new one is for FSX). I am using a second monitor but I unplugged it and am writing this message…

I previously remedied constant crashes by deleting my fsx.cfg file and allowing the program to rebuild it. After a week or so of bliss, I have now had 2 CTD's in the cruise phase on an original flight and a repeat attempt to fly from Ft. Myers to Boston. Both times it crashed at the same point of the flight, and both times, AppCrashView showed the following modules as the last to load: LoadedModule[205]=C:\Windows\system32\msadp32.acm LoadedModule[206]=C:\Windows\assembly\NativeImages_v2.0.50727_32\System.Drawing\5c24d3b0041ebf4f48a93615b9fa3de9\System.Drawing.ni.dll LoadedModule[207]=C:\Windows\assembly\NativeImages_v2.0.50727_32\System.Configuration\5b6ddf93412…

  16. Hi, I am a long time user of MSFS and have bought a new Dell inspiron 15r with Windows 8 on it and have installed FSX on it. After finding out it keeps on crashing, I brought down the settings on everything except Graphics and Aircraft Quality but that didn't work. I tried uninstalling all freeware aircraft I had on FSX and sticking with all my payware planes but that didn't work. I installed the two Service Packs for FSX AND Tried updating to Windows 8.1 but even that didn't work. I love FSX but now it's becoming really frustrating  as it crashes whenever I save, load, start, end or accidentally crash into terrain. I have tried converting fsx.cfg into Fsx.orig…

Hi, Recently I have experienced problems with FSX and results in an appcrash and saying 'Microsoft Flight Simulator has encountered a problem' then shutting down FSX. I have tried a reinstall of FSX and still the problem persists. It often occurs when I click on the FSX map and then crashes when I close that to return to the flight. I have also followed the CTD PDF but none of the suggestions appear to have worked. I have copied in below the AppCrashView report to see if anything obvious can be spotted as being the problem. I should say I have Windows 8.1: Version=1 EventType=APPCRASH EventTime=130460825630093842 ReportType=2 Consent=1 UploadTime=13046…

  21. No common CTD, unfortunately, to which there seem to be solutions. In my case: I have run Win 8.1 with 2x2Gb of DDR3 1333 memory for a while and flown FSX Gold SP2 as well without any serious issues; a little low framerates at LFPG, EDDF and ESSA though. Equiped with Gigabyte GTX660 / AMD Phenom II x4 3,2Ghz /Windows 8.1. Sliders in the middle, but for scenery complexety where the slider's at max. In hope to get more flow I installed 4x2Gb of DDR3 1333 memory (same brand and batch). The computer and Win 8.1 starts, but 20 seconds after I start FSX the computer shuts down and restarts. I have tried a suggestion I found in a forum, to start FSX without the F…

  23. Hey guys. I've been having issues playing FSX on my gaming PC. FSX would sometimes CTD for no obvious reason other than showing "Flight Simulator X has stopped working", and in worse cases, would cause a BSOD with "DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION" errors. Compatibility mode with Windows Vista SP2 was selected prior to FSX being started. FSX is the only game where this is occurred. Temps are cool and stable. Other games like Battlefield 3, Team Fortress 2 and PlanetSide 2 are all stable. Even FlightGear runs well. Here are my system's specs if it will help.
