The AVSIM Screen Shots Forum

Have a favorite screen shot of your simulator that you would like to share? You can by posting it here.  Please follow image posting rules (below).  Images must be hosted on an image hosting website. Please use prefixes to identify the simulator you are using (see pinned topic for guidance). Please include information about the screenshot(s) such as location (flight plan?), the aircraft, weather engine, scenery (i.e., Orbx/FTX, GEX, FSDT, FlightBeam, FlyTampa, etc.).

Screenshot Image Posting Rules

  • Images must be hosted on your own image server site, such as Drop Box, Google Drive, Photobucket.com, OZx Image Hosting, or a website that you own.  See guidance at following link - http://www.avsim.com/topic/479802-how-do-i-post-a-screenshot/
  • Images can be of any size; however, be considerate of your fellow AVSIM members as large photos will take longer to load for some members who do not have fast Internet connections.
  • Images will automatically be resized to fit the viewer's screen width. This process is done automatically by the AVSIM website program.
  • No more than 20 images per thread (topic). Moderators will remove any image that exceed this requirement.
  • AVSIM members are reminded of the AVSIM Terms of Service in respect to images, and copyrighted and intellectual property. Images that violate our policies regarding copyrights and family safe environment will be removed and, depending on the severity of violation, user suspended or banned from AVSIM.
  • Images copyrighted on other websites such as Airliners.net are not allowed and will be removed immediately.

Following on from my previous post (here) we're going back to London, the overnight flights are done by a triple these days but the 789 used to do one. Here we are in the fading light loading up... Some taxi out... Passenger departure views AI traffic making their way eastbound... Flying towards the rising moon and... ...away from the setting sun A lot of dark nothingness later and here we are descending into London early in the morning. Some of the locals up early. Entering the Bovingdon hold (well, it is Heathrow) Starting the approach Short final Parked up…

Following on from my previous post (here) and after a little pause, I'm back to complete my A340 series starting with an aside. I've just arrived in Heathrow and noticed Air Canada operating a 737 there. Further investigations reveal they do (did, now, this was flown at the end of last year) a service to St Johns in Newfoundland on a 737. Initially I believe they used a conventional (albeit ETOPS) 737NG, more recently they switched to a MAX and right now, obviously, it's not running. A glorious winter morning at Heathrow as we load up the iFly 737-800. Pushback finished, an A380 emerges from the gloom... A passenger snaps another 380 just after take …

The East African Rift Valley is a series of contiguous geographic trenches that runs from the Red Sea to Tanzania. A beautiful part of it is “Simien Mountains Nat. Park” (the red dot), located in Ethiopia with Mount Ras Dashan its highest elevation. The nearest airport is Gonder (the red dot again), southwest of it. Making such a trip in default P3D or XP11 is somewhat boring, as the scenery does in no way reflect reality. Luckily, this is a bit different with Ortho4XP Early in the morning in Gonder. A lonely tour bus can be spotted in the distance Thanks …

The first real aircraft I was ever given control to fly was a Cessna 170 that looked much like this one, I was close friends with the famed Napa aerial photographer, William Garnett, in the mid 80's (he passed away in the early 2000's but he is up there with Tom Allensworth). It was a rare honor the veteran Napa FBO pilots told me to even fly in his Cessna 170 as a passenger, let alone fly it behind the yoke. The last pic was a pic I took in Bill's honor, and gave to him for his kindness. John https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Garnett_(photographer)

  11. Forum member Clutch Cargo released his new ABQ scenery. A lot of us have been waiting a long time for this long overlooked area! It also includes some really fun easter eggs! Download link on Avsim front Page- Thank you Clutch! We really appreciate it! The sparkling view from Sandia Crest. The new scenery includes excellent night lighting with several options but I added the Taburet night lighting for NM, CO, AZ and UT and it takes the lights all the way to the horizon making Albuquerque truly spectacular at night as it should be. Anyone who's driven or flown to Albuquerque at night knows what I'm talking about…

A little tour of LA, for Bernd (and anyone else interested). This is using Forkboy's US Orthos Project California set, starts from Mister X6's wonderful KLAX, and is also using all of Grumpler's VFR objects for the LA area as well as the W2XP US WEST RL overlays. Together, this lot adds up to a pretty impressive environment, in my opinion. But be warned, this all eats up VRAM. I'm running this with XP settings most maxed out and at 4k and I'm seeing almost 14gb of VRAM in use. Anyway - enjoy, and I know the chopper has an out-of-context livery but I liked the colour! These are all 4k shots and worth seeing full screen - the level of detail in this scenery is great. …

  15. Here are should be 14 shots from todays flight. I used to fly in this area quite a bit. Im a bit dissapointed as to how brown some areas of TEWA are and Im very dissapointed that it seems to cut off just south of KKLS (cant even fly from Vancouver) -- but overall I think its good. all these areas that used to be only in pay airports (for people like me who stuck to what Orbx did) are now there in TEWA -- like Anacortes for example. anyway - some pics:

  17. From the top 100 downloads in the Forums (to see what have been the most popular FW downloads for the previous year), I picked up Milton Shupe's aircraft FSX/P3D G-73 Mallard, and also an interesting gauge called "Synthetic ILS - For Every Runway At Every Airport". I've been thinking about an aid like the latter, for VFR-flights into (e.g. Orbx's) remote airstrips - sometimes reaching there after dusk or in poor visibility (and w/o any navaid/LOC/ILS guidance at the destination). Under these conditions, I (personally) find it hard to properly align with such a runway and land properly - w/o ending up in the swamps outside of the runways or running into the parked aircraft…

Ok, it's not the one from Africa. The Phoenix is an incredibly efficient motor glider that can fly a long ways, very fast, and has many landing options at its disposal in case of engine out, being a motor glider. VSkylabs has made one for Xplane11 and it is much fun as a hand flyer.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_Air_Phoenix

  19. Was attempting to take a low and slow around some new Baltimore scenery, but then caught fire on the way. I really do need to read the manual for this thing - it's not the first time it's happened <grin>. Amazingly enough, I did manage to land here without any fakery, which impressed me as I'm no kind of pilot - I just like to get in the air and wander around looking at the scenery, not staring at dials and levers and all that other stuff cluttering up the cockpit. Actually, the roads are one of the things that really got me hooked in XP, and when I get this close they're even more impressive. Shame I can't seem to find a decent car/van/truck for the sim (anybo…

  21. [Note: I wish to, right away, make it clear that this post is not my original idea, but triggered by some interesting details provided by "Dominique(Domkle)" in my earlier post (about First Airmail service in the United States). So, please consider this draft a preliminary version of this story, but, the story is also fascinating in its own right, and actually more so, because this is the "Dark" Continent where two expedition teams (utilizing Vickers and deHavilland aircraft) are racing, against all odds, to be the first to land in Africa! For further details, please refer to the resources provided by Dominique in my earlier post. The original story is a complex one with …
