Hi AllI finally decided to tread that fateful road of building a more advanced flying station, not quite a cockpit yet...I have a Amd Barton 2500, with 1Gb of geil memory and Leadtek G4 Ti4400 with a matrox G450(Pci)dual head for the instrument display. I use WinXP Pro to run Fs9.I want to run two screens off the G450 for instrument panels and use the G4 Ti4400 for VC view for Forward and panning left to right. This I can achive at about 13fpm, but with only a single screen connected to the G450. It seems that most people use the server for instrumentation and client pc's for simple outside views and I can see why, because of loading and frame rate issues. I much pre…

Hello, I am sure you are all aware of the difficulty in obtaining cockpit dimensions, but I am having a particularly hard time finding those for the Boeing 717-200. Basically I wish to create a highly accurate 3DSMAX scene of the cockpit for various purposes. Does anyone know of any websites that have dimensions, or you yourself have them that I could have. Also, do you know where I could find diagrams for the cockpit of this great aircraft? Many Thanks,Matthew Murray,[bR]AVSIM Online,Library Manager,[email protected]

Yesterday I made a visit to a CST (static trainer) and there I noticed that the nav concentric rotary is a rotary switch and not an encoder. You really feel the hard clicks. So now I am thinking of doing it the way fsbus does it with the rotary switch. (wire them to 3 inputs and then have the code determin if you go left or right).Someone can make me 4 of these concentric rotary switches ? I can pay via bank transfer or else via an international post sheck. No hurry though.I could try making them myself though .. but I got no column mounting for my drill which probably makes the job very hard to do.

http://users.skynet.be/porreke/Glaretop.jpgThis is a 3D render of the top plate which I will need to put on top of my glare. As you can see quite a weird shape and I have no idea how to make this.I hope you folks see the actual picture cuz I seem to have some problems here. I see different pages on my website each time I refresh it and those pages aren't mine. If I load this image e.g. I get a banner which isn't mine.Anyone got an idea what might be going wrong here? Other folks seem to see the correct things.

Hi, Back then, I have bought several real boeing type switch knobs. and they each are single type of knobs. But In reality, inside of most boeing cockpits there are some duplicated knobs that are used on each panels. So, back then I was advised in order to make duplicated swicthes I could do molding and casting. And the first attempt I did was using rubber modling, and clear resin casting. but they did not come at good result. I wasn't really pleased how it look. Asking for your help, would anyone know or suggest the best method, or maybe type of molding and casting to get that switch knobs to look almost indentical to real one without any glitch? I have vised some of…

Has anyone been able to contact horizonflightsimulation.com ? I sent them two e-mails to [email protected] over the last week asking for information about one of their products, but have not heard back. Now this morning it appears that their DNS is not working. I can't locate Mike and Dave's personal e-mail, but that would not be very appropriate anyway. So, has anyone else had any luck with them or sould I keep looking elsewhere?

All,I am setting up a second machine for my out-the-window display. I plan on using Wideview, as I have read in other places on the forum that the two-video-card-in-one-machine scenario takes a heavy toll on frame rates. My question is - what is the best I can hope for regarding field of view? I would (of course) like to do 180 degress, but would settle for 120 degrees or so.I anyone doing this, and if so, can you forward some pointers on settings, etc.?Thanks....

I'm at the beginning of building a console using a Hagstrom Ke72 and some switches. What gauge of wire (18, 22 etc.) and type (i.e, solid copper or stranded) should I use? I didn't see any suggestion with the encoder information.Thanks.Randall

I have 13 of my 15 orderd knitters here. They turn out rather small compared to the gray type encoders I had before. No problem though the pin is also very small in diameter. Something like 4mm. While my knobs need at least 5.How to solve this problem in a reliable way ?

Same deal. Then I took out the AGP card .. no joy. Then I went back to the shop and asked to test the card there .. it worked without a problem.Back home .. no joy.Uninstalled both drivers of the old S3ViRGE PCI card and the one from the AGP GF2 Ti 500 .. no joy.Now I reinstalled the AGP drivers and tried to install the ATI drivers and will see what this gives but my guess is .. no joy.Anyone got an idea what might be going wrong cuz I am clueless.Ow, just in case you wonder .. I had a little time to spare... Started programming an EICAS screen for the Boeing 737. Very, very soon this panel software will be downloadable from my website. It uses FDSConnect to connect to FS2004, FSUIPC might be faster, I don't know.... I'm still open for any kind of suggestions.http://home.planet.nl/~coppo020/cockpit/de...enshotEICAS.jpg

Hi there guys! I am brand new to cockpit building, but have been around FS for a long time. I am with United Virtual Airlines, and I have been using only a joystick, and I guess it's time for a realism upgrade. I want to start small, and build up, because there's only so much a 14 year old can afford or have time to build. I want to start out by buying a yoke, rudder pedals, or making/buying a throttle quadrant. Where is a good place that I can go online to purchase some cheap and quality products online? After that, I guess I should start with the actual cockpit by buying some guages and creating a realistic cockpit. My cockpit is aimed at jets, because that's wha…

Hi allI've reached the stage of planning lighting of my sim and I want to have flourescent flood lighting, map lights, panel lights probably either of (or both) incandescent and LED,etc with dimming capability... and a suitable power supply setup. Have considered converted pc supplies which may be suitable for lower current requirements and lab supplies etc. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding:1. Suitable lighting and supply setups?2. Suitable dimming methods/circuits for the above? It would be interesting to hear what existing projects are using. Many Thanks

A sample chapter from the almost published book, Building Simulated Aircraft Instruments is available as a PDF download here: www.mikesflightdeckbooks.comMikewww.mikesflightdeck.comp.s. Don't be confused by the fact that the cover has "Building Simulated Aircraft Instrumentation" printed on it. This is merely an artifact of the author suffering severe brain-fade from writing too much and working on his sim too little. The book really is titled "Building Simulated Aircraft Instruments", and sadly, the cover really will have "Building Simulated Aircraft Instrumentation" printed on it. :-doh
