For anyone needing Airbus style push-pull rotary encoders, I received this reply from Ted Deller at CSI ( http://em.ca/~cockpits/main.htm ) :They are optical rotary encoders, and require +5V DC along with a measuring circuit such as our rotary encoder module (ENC351). The push button and pull button require 1700 grams of pressure to activate, which is very similar to the aircraft standard. The push and pull buttons have a travel of .05 inches (1.27 mm).The whole switch takes up a very small footprint, which makes them ideal for cockpit control panels. There's no bulky assembly behind the panel; just a 3/4 inch diameter cylinder that is about 1 inch long. They aren't cheap,…

I've seen a lot of these things in screenshots for home builders... Anyway, I've got one, and it's getting awfully sticky... from what I understand, it's not the best idea to spray WD-40 on it ;) and I remember reading something about teflon spray, but I can't find it anywhere.Any suggestions? Thanks,Andrew

Hi All,Just putting together my shopping list for my FSBus project and came across a couple of questions. Firstly, does anyone know if you should be using a 4Mhz crystal with an internal capacitator or not? Also, is there or is there not an 18K resistor on the FSLed board? Thanks for any help,

Hi all simfellows,Finally I have corrected all errors on my CNC-mill and the construction of details and panels has started.Knobs are milled out of 16mm MDF board, panels are made of 3mm semitransparent white plastic that is painted on front surface. First the text and symbols are engraved with a 0.6mm mill and then the details and shape are cut. As you see on flightdeck picture theres a lot of paper templates that will be switched to real panels. The knob is milled with a 3mm cutout for the marker, when knob is painted I insert a 3mm plastic part to enable light to shine trough marker. As it takes 1 hour to mill the knob I will propably make a mold of it soon as I can mak…

How long is your list of bookmarks from fellow builder's websites?Checking for updates on other builder's websites can take some time, and often you go there just to find out that there hasn't been an updatein the last week(s).Here's my suggestion:A Mailinglist were only update notifications are posted. No discussions.(There are enough forums for that :-) )If we can get enough builders to subscribe and use this list to announcewhenever they make changes to their website, then this would, at leastin my opinion, be helpful both for * builders with their own website as they would reach their "target audience" better (webpages are made to be read, right :-) )* and builders as…

Hi,Are you a VATSIM pilot?Do you have a 'hardware radio', such as a GoFlight GF166 and do you use AVC tuner to read your COM1?Do you feel the stress of having to dial digits in your COM1 Standby radio while you are landing or taking off a heavy jet on your own?Do you rather keep your head up during these conditions? Is your wife not willing to act as a co-pilot too? :-) ;-) --> Well, here is the right tool for you: COMMtuner!Go to my web site, Downloads page.Nicowww.nicokaan.nl

I have many USB controllers connected and would like to be able to switch some on/off without the hassle of unplugging them, e.g. from a switch panel. Would this just be "as simple as" wiring the 5v line of the USB connection to a switch or would the data lines need to be switched as well?Assuming this would work okay, any source for short male-female USB extensions that could be utilised? Something along the lines of 3 inch extension cables that are supplied with some Bluetooth USB dongles.

My cockpit has evolved over the years and morphed as I've become excited about this or that release for FS. There is a side to me that would love to make a faithful recreation of a particular plane but the reality is I am just too fickly to limit myself. Instead I set out to make a good generic sim that could be used for almost any plane and I think I achieved that. Attached are some pics. Here are a few things I learned along the way that might help- It's hard to get the seat height right and that should probably be the first step in scaling your sim. I bought two new vinyl Chevy van seats from Ebay and they work well but I've never found sliding rails for them. Instead …

Hey, Im not a regular poster but I am really starting to get into the final stages of planning a cockpit. Currently Im at 3 monitors on a desk running Project Magenta with a cockpit panel over them. Then a projector and GoFlight centre console.Im not after vast realism or detail but just the basics of a Boeing Instrument panel. However I have just seen this - http://www.lhshop.nl/ownpages/b737-panel.aspThis is exactly what I am looking for and I am seriously considering purchasing one, It is abit on the expensive side with the full thing running to around 3000 Euros, Does anyone have any further information or views on the new 737 Kit from Luchtvaart?CheersScott

Hello, I think I finally am ready to start building the housing and external views for my generic sim. However, I don't know where to start. I spent two intense month building this and now I am stuck. I havent even been motivated to hookup my FS Computer and try it out. I guess that just because I will be unhappy using the single monitor for the external view. Here are some shots of my progress; Comments and suggestions on how to proceed next will be greatly appriciated.

Hi All !Does anybody know if there is a Video splitter on the maret working like this:One Input VGA with, say, 1280x480 resolution. Two outputs splitted in the left and right part of the VGA Input signal, ie. resulting in two 640x480 VGA signals. Will be using this for outputting ONE VGA signal from Project Magenta PFD/ND to two 640x480 TFT displays. In this way cheaper AGP boards without dual head can be used.. and will also give a higher FPS, I guess...Ole..http://www.almenningen.no/cockpit

I'm just about to buy a USB headset so I can use voice on VATSIM. The thing is, I just realized that by using a headset all of the FS voices also come through the headset instead of my computer speakers. How can it be done with a USB headset to where the FS sounds go to the comp speakers and voice/ATC comes through my headset?

hi folksSo far, all I've done is to have a PFD displayed by a computer networked to the one running flight sim.I used the 737 free glass panel and fdsconnection.since most GA aircraft now come with the option of glass displays instead of steam gauges, this is what I plan to implement in my cockpit.I will probably need one more computer and two monitors to display more external views using wideview. In the future I'm planning to have another glass display-depending on what's available for free and compatible with fdsconnection-on my old laptop. My cockpit will actually be just an instrument panel, under my desk, and the monitors displaying outside views on the desk. I pla…

Hi all, I'm not building a cockpit anytime soon(unofortunatly) however I was thinking of picking up a video projector in mid September and figured with a few posts about it that I did see, that some of you may be able to answer my questions.I'm looking at either the InFocus X2 or the cheapest DLP 1024x768? resolution I can find with a 1000+ lumens rating. Now if money wasn't an issue, I'd have the 1024x768 but the fact is I don't really have the money if you know what I mean. On the other hand, I'm not gonna go out and spend 1500$ Canadian when I could spend that extra 500$ or so and get the higher res., spending this amount of money I just don't want to feel disapointe…

Hi All,After a number of years at this flightsim insanity, I've started on my first cockpit project. The first stage of version 1 is completed: I got a new pc for fs9 and relegated my old pc to WideFS duty, running AS2004, RCv3, and FDC, plus CH yoke and petals.I'm now moving on to stage 2. I've bought two small monitors (9-10") that I intend to use for PM glass cockpit and MCP/CDU. I haven't acquired the two pc's yet, which leads to my question. What is a good machine for PM use? PM's site says a P2 300 or better. I've been looking in the 400-700 MHz range with 128 Meg.I know the glass cockpit software will require more power than the autopilot and FMC.I'm trying to …

Ok, I got a new PCI graph.card here and it's nothing spectacular but I will get the 128 mb version (now 32 mb) as soon as I confirm to the guy that this SIS 315E works ok.It does, however .. I undock my gauge panel. Then I put it on the other display. If I fly like that, every say 10 seconds the sim freezes for .. say 1 second or less. Then if I go to fullscreen mode (provided the settings on the FS hardware menu are equal to the actual windows settings of resolution of both displays, I can get fullscreen. Then the hick-up is gone though my gauges on the panel go very small into the top left corner. Just as if they were 800*600 on a 1280*1024 display. Now if I edit …
