Spent a fair bit of time cruising around and so far I am very happy with FSX (I will be happier when I get a system that can really run it - but I don't think I am alone there!)However I was eventually forced to try and do something about the offensive bright yellow patches of (sand?) which seem to surround all the airstrips in Central California.I found a program called FSX_KML which does just what I need with some assistance from Google Earth (Plus). Guys:Please indulge me for a moment and answer one question for me. I have FSX Deluxe, and have installed the provided SDK's. I have created some simple scenery files for myself in many of the older versions of FS using scenery creation programs, so I'm not a complete novice, but with the newer versions I might as well be. What I'd like to know is: Can I create a simple Bgl file for my hometown consisting of a few bridges, a couple of stadiums, some buildings and even perhaps some static aircraft at my local airport using the information and tools provided with the SDK's and the default scenery objects of FSX? Hi all!I'm trying to convert my high-resolution sceneries with the FSX resampler and ran into a problem: The water is always darkblue (deep?) although the water in the default-scenery is lightblue (shallow?). Here's two shots:My FS9 scenery used in FSX - here everything is OK and the water is lightblue like the default scenery.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/161395.jpgAnd here the FSX scenery - obtained from the same data! From a quick look at the SDK it seems that GeoTiff is the preferred format for aerial/satellite photo-scenery. I would like to import a GeoTiff photographed area to "play with" so I can get the resample/INF process understood. Any area other than the SDK samples would be ok. Does anyone know of a source of a GeoTiff photo(s)? I have done the Google search and keep running into $$$ for downloads or CDs. Dick near 5G8

Hello all. Here is my problem. I received the photo terrain from another designer and he told me it was made in Sbuilder. The terrain looks excellent in the sim, all aligned and sharp. I tried to annotate it to display autogen, but the autogen does not show up. I did everything as SDK says, the annotator sees the texture, saves the agn file, but nothing happens in the simulator. The photo terrain's bgls are copied into the scenario's Scenery folder and the photo textures are placed into the main simulator Texture folder (the designer told me to do so). I have imported my FS9 Vancouver(CYVR) scenery into FSX, and apart from the horrendous hit on frame rates and ground polygons bleeding through it doesn't look too bad, in fact the various textures look a lot brighter than in FS9.But there is a bit of an anomaly with a transparent green glass texture(bmp)that I used. In the control room in the main control tower, the glass texture does not show at all, just an empty space. The control room was created in EOD, placed in Airport and compiled wih SCASM. Whereas in buildings elsewhere (Fairmont lobby, Penta Aviation) where I have used this transparent glass texture, it shows up fine. These latter buildings were created with No…

Have just board FS Architect 4.1. Have a little experience in other "light" scenery design programs, but have already problems in FS architect, then I want compile a runway to FS2004. Hi all.I was wondering whether someone might be able to tell me if there's a vector scenery utility available that does not require the input of map coordinates and background image. Vector utilities such G2K and Sbuilder do. Object scenery progams like SGX do not. It'd be nice to have a utility that communicates with FS and recognises the user's position without having to punch in coordinates and therefore be confined to the area determined by those coordinates. The specific task I'm thinking of here is laying down creeks and roads that accurately correspond with the elevation mesh. The user needs the freedom available in an object placement utility to move about the FS …

I have a MrSid file that is 274mb in size. I have tried three programs to convert it to TIF. Each ends up after 30 minutes continuing to process. Lizard Tech has one called mrsidgeodecode_win.exe. It runs from CMD and immediately says that the TIF file will be 4GB and that is too large for it to process. I assume that the others are trying.So, is it normal when converting a MrSID to TIF to see such a large size expansion during conversion?Dick Boley

PPL,While working in my Puerto Rico project, I encountered some issues. I don't know how to tackle them but I'm sure that you guys will have some good ideas.Need to:1. exclude all freeways of the island2. reduce/adjust the autogen exclude polygon for TJSJ3. adjust the fences around TJSJ which happen to be the same shape of the autogen exlcude polygon.The freeway issue is not a big deal though.There're two major roads that pass inside the defined TJSJ airport. In real life that's not the case. Those roads pass next to the airport, in parallel to runway 8 and 10, so the fences are out of position. Right now, those roads seem to be inside the fenced area. :-(Help!Juan

Guys,I have some shapefiles that I used to create terrascene stuff for Fly2. I'm trying to create roads at this point only. I read the sdk docs but I'm getting errors. The shapefiles that I'm working with contains "lines" only...not dots or polys. Hi folks. I am having a problem. I have always either made strips from scratch or have dressed up existing strips, but have never tried to fix a default crater airport. I mad a flatening switch to get the ground moved upwards to an acceptable height. My problem is I am left with the default airport 1400 feet below it now. How can I move the runway up to the new elevation. I tried to use AFCAD (1.4 for 2002) but it won't move the runway. Any ideas? Thanks.Don

they dont show up in the game. im saving them into Addon Scenery/Scenery and i get the airport in the GPS, airport list and the Map but i cant see them. I spawn at a runway and i end up in a patch of grass. I really need your help. Im making an extention for my Virtual Airline and i need to get it finished soon !!! Please Help!

While some utilities are being modified to work with FSX others are not and many of those may never be adapted to FSX. Utilities such as SceneGenX, AFCAD, Sbuilder, and others could either be completely or partially useful if FSUIPC, or some other program, provided an FS9 interface from FSX. Dick near 5G8

I created an area of photo textures around the Concord, California airport at 4.8m/pixel resolution. I also created the immediate airport are photo scenery at 0.25m/pixel (two BGLs). Now when I display the combination I see the picture below. The hi-res and lo-res are in separate folders with only Scenery folders within those folders. ???Dick near 5G8While awaiting expert opinion I did something I should have done originally. I changed the priority of the Hi-res photo-scenery folder to be lower than the Lo-res scenery folder. Now it works. So the rule, at least for now, is that the lower resolution scenery should be at a higher priority than the Hiigh resolution scenery …

I found the following statement on a mailing list and would like to have your comments on this. My idea is that he is busy killing FSX features by using this old code, thus the "improvement" in fps???"I actually found that using the older format speeds up your system rather than slowing it down! For example: using the default FS library objects such as trucks and antennas via XML versus using the same objects via SCASM. I have found by using the library objects via SCASM speeded up the display of the scenery, eliminating hiccups on final approach to an airport."RegardsJohan

I have created 22 flattens without a problem but this one has beaten me. FSX has added the default texture to the sea. The first shot shows the area which I require to flatten, the second shot shows the flatten in TMFViewer, the third shows the effect in FSX. I have also added a fourth shot in which I first loaded 0501/4713 before my flatten. I have tried a flatten and a combined flatten and exclude using the same polygon. The second shot shows that my flatten has been clipped by the white area. The dark blue area is identified by TmfViewer as a shoreline but it will not identify the polygon surrounding the white area.I would be grateful for your comments.George

Does anyone knows the GUID for the jetways in FSX. I have decompiled an afcad2 bgl from fs9 using bglx and I would like to manually add a jetway section per sdk into the xml code but I don't know the guid for the jetway.Any idea?Juan
