    Well, since there is no Effects forum, I thought I'd post my request for assistance here. FSX Forum was no help.Anyone with knowledge of Effects and Controller files, I sure could use some help.I do not care for the current FSX airport beacon effects. I have read over the Effects SDK in hopes of improving the effect. However, the SDK leaves many questions unanswered.I'm attempting to increase the viewing range of the airport beacon. I have made a few adjustments to the fx_beacong and fx_beaconwhi files. I also made a Controller file and included the line: Distance=40.     Hello.I'm completely new to anything related to content creation in FS. I cracked open the Terrain System section of the SDK and it shows an example by loading image_globe.bgl into TmfViewer. Looking in my SceneryWorldScenery folder i don't see an image_globe.bgl, only a numbered series starting with image_globe00.bgl. Are they assuming we can piece these things together to make the entire globe, or am I just missing a file?Only on step 1 and already banging my head.fred

  4. Hello, I was looking to begin travelling across the Pacific Ocean in several of my add-ons. I use flightaware.com (for better or worse) to get real-world flightplans for carriers, however, FS9 doesn't seem to have any lat/long waypoints for flight across the pacific.     Hello all, I created a bgl with the old FS Resample tool (terrain mesh plus landclass) and placed it in the ocean in FSX. It didn't show up. The same bgl in FS9 works fine, so there appears to be a difference between FS9 and FSX (now there's a surprise!)However, when I placed the bgl on land in FSX it worked fine (though the frame rate was surprisingly low).Does anyone have any ideas?     I'm pretty good at scenery design, and I've posted a few airport packages, but one thing I've never been able to figure out is how to create semi-transparent textures. Say, for example, I want to create a simple fence. I want you to be able to see through it, but i don't want the metal itself to be transparent. How can one do this without using an Opacity Map in GMAX, which won't carry over to FS? I've seen it done before, so I know its possible, but I don't know how. Does it have something to do with getting an alpha channel in a bmp?

  9. Hello All, I've been struggling here. I downloaded the great freeware KCVG by Jim Campisi and am having one little problem. At the approach end of RWY09, there is a bar, presumably of lights, that I can't seem to get rid of. I've excluded (with SBuild 2.05, my trusty sidekick) layers 1 through 8 and also a separate exclude of All Objects (box checked). I'm pretty familiar with SBuild and am stumped as to how to remove this object. I don't know why that is happening. Anyway, thanks in advance for the help!-adam

    My TMF Viewer differs from the MS FSX SDK documentation in that it doesn't display the name of the landclass, but simply displays the hex value. Is there a switch somewhere that someone can point me to? I prefer English to hex, myself.

    I wish to remove a building from the ramp at KDLN. ExcBuilder will not compile although it will produce an .xml file. I orientated N using the space bar and I used FSC to enter the coordinates. When the routine failed I ran an error check using a DOS routine. It told me my max and min values were wrong.     Hey, guys, I've been looking for a Toronto Pearson(CYYZ) scenery, but I only found SimFlyers one. I've flown the demo version but it really, lets say, NOT EVEN CLOSE TO A GOOD QUALITY SCENERY. And it's payware! Why don't someone create a good one. Freeware or Payware. There are good ones like Fiume, in Rome, Malpensa, in Milan, FlyVienna, FlySeattle, Hong Kong(don't remember the name but it's freeware) and many others.   17. Can any of you experts out there expalin to me the mechanism by which a particular bgl file can cause XP to CTD, or even for the PC to crash to a blue screen? This has happened a few times over the past year or so, and each time I have traced the cause to a particular bgl file: removing it clears the crashing, putting it back brings the blue screens back again. I have run Memtest86+ overnight, through 25 cycles, with zero errors, and have surface checked my hard drive, again with no problems, so don't think this is a hardware error.As an example, I installed VOZ 1.21 yesterday and immediately got blue screen crashes when starting from a particular airport (YMHB).     I am working on the ILS approaches to the new VTBS. The problem I am haivng is in the missed approach procedure. For example ILS 01L has "climb on R-015 SVB to 3000 ft and hold or as directed by ATC". I have a CA leg that gets me out on 015, but there doesn't seem to be any good way to do the hold. The plate shows a waypoint symbol at the 10 DME from SVB as the base for the hold, but there isn't an official waypoint there.Do I have to create a terminal_waypoint in the correct position for the hold, or is ther some other way to get from the CA leg to an HM? I tried playing with a CD leg but didn't get that to work, and at any rate it seems like you need a waypoint for…

    Hi guys,I just installed JUST FLIGHT Traffic2005 2 days ago and I wanted to change the AI taxi routes for some airports I have in the add-on scenery folder.I managed to do this by modifying the (inaccurate) AF2_LGKR.bgl file of Traffic2005 with Lee swordy's AFCAD 2.21 and by saving it afterwards in the scenery folder of my airport.     Hello,I'm having serious issues with the new Bangkok airport scenery from Siamavsim.comFor some reason much of the AFCAD and taxiways don't appear.     Would someone please explain to me the mesh and texture resolutions in FSX?Does 1 meter on the mesh resolution mean that there is elevation data for each square meter? If so, how is that affected by the mesh data (i.e.) if the data is 19 meter or 38 meter.On the texture resolution does 7 cm mean that each pixel represents 7 centimeters?

    I'm trying create a test lake using the FSX SDK. It works but the lake appears at an elevation of -32000 feet.     Has anyone successfully added a wake to a library object, for instance a cargo ship? I have tried but the wake appears vertical and adding a pitch value makes the wake dissapear. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.I've had no trouble with adding a steam effect to the same ship but that effect is naturally vertical. See attached picture.Ted
