Geez guys....FSX will have an optional 1 meter per pixel resolution on terrain and similar improvements on mesh terrain...I had a chance to fly over Maui and the improvement was incredible. about 10x more autogen trees and a more powerful autogen library of structures besides. The water visuals are better by a mile. I can't wait.JustFlight had a demo of (to be released soon) of photoreal Portland Oregon which was very impressive on 3 screens.Only downside...GMAX will not be supported after FSX. There will be one more version for FSX (bglcomp?), then "we" have to move on to something else.It seems Microsoft is now much more open to customer interaction.I sure hope there wi…

I just received a reply from the MS FSX Development Team (Hal Bryan) after asking if the non-disclosure agreement for beta testers could be relaxed now that the demo and beta were available to the public. He replied that we certainly now can disclose that we've been on the beta test team. He did ask however that we still refrain from commenting on specifics of any bugs being discussed.I think this will be a big help to scenery developers that would like their products to move gracefully into the new product. It will also help to reassure our customers or freeware users that we're getting wonderful cooperation from Microsoft and that they're taking our help and suggesti…

  3. Pardon me if this is in the wrong forum but it is geared so much towards scenery design I thought it would get a better response here.I am on the road a lot these days and I see many hours wasted away where I could be improving my Gmax skills and working with projects I am creating also in SBuilder. So I was tinking of picking up either a cheap, new laptop or a used one soley for that purpose.1. For those who have used either Gmax or SBuilder on a laptop (notebook), do you think if I got one with say 512MB RAM it would suffice?2. What about shared RAM on the AGP card?I don't think the CPU is as important as these two questions as I would not really be gaming but designin…

I am having trouble displaying lighting in the airport I designed using Gmax. The lighting displays fine in Gmax but not in FS9. I would like to use lighting in place of creating night textures and to provide a more realistic layout of the airport. Any help would be appreciated.

Is there an easy way to simply edit existing airports? I'm looking for something like the AFCAD program, but for airport layouts, etc..Thanks!

Hello allafter a lot of tests, i arrived on a wall, and hjope someone can help me to tumb down this one:I want to create streams, that follows automatically the relief (Mesh) until it reaches no data. Such a function should be possible with slartibartfast, where a section [Rivers] and following inputs in lat/long define a "spring", and water will follow the referenced mesh. After a lot of tests i could not detect, how this function work, respectively why doesn't it function with my .inf -File.unfortunally in the slartibartfast -manual there is no example how this function should work correctly...I hope for your hints and tips, therefore i thank you for any response:.inf =*…

I was experimenting with FSSC because I really liked the background bitmap functionality especially the ability to view the bitmap in FS. Makes it easy for photoreal scenery. However, I have discovered a problem. When setting up tiles in 1024x1024 or 512x512 and joining them together to make a large photoreal airport background the FSSC interface appears to be perfect with the tiles lining up perfectly. However, when viewed in FS the generated tile appears to cut off a small slice from the right side of the bitmap. This unfortunately means the bitmaps cannot be lined up properly.Anyone have a solution to this?ThanksShez

I must be doing something wrong, of course. My texture doesn't become real. I've tried a lot o times and I get always the same! From PSMaker I always get a box with instructions for Imagetool, when converting textures. If I hit OK it stops as it is finished. When I see the final result there is a box with a lot of Targa (tga) files, instead of bmp's. If I try this texture, I find coordinates correct, but photo texture, is a grey area. I used Photoshop, Photo Scenery Maker, Terrabuilder LITE. Is there anybody, with a good heart, to help me step by step? Antero

I have tried to install beirut airport as instructed by Lebor, but have not suceeded. The original scenery was for FS2002, but on seeing a fix for FS2004, I assumed it would work. I downloaded the following from Avsim :- lebor_olba2002.zip,lebor_olba2002_up1.zip & af2_olba.zip.Here is where the confusion sets in, in the af2 read me, you are instructed not install anything other than the main .exe setup. No mention of whether or not to install the up1.zip.Can anyone tell me the correct way to install this scenery for 2004?

Hello everyone! I'm wondering if somebody out there could give me a tip on the following subject; I have just completed some scenery files to upload for FS9 and would like to provide an automatic installer program for the scenery files. Can anybody tell me how I can do this or perhaps find the resources / utilities to accomplish this task?Your input is appreciated. :-) Best regards,Mark.

Quick question for you all: I'm wondering what the practical differences are between named, unnamed, and off-route waypoints as far as FS9 facilities data is concerned. Can any of these be added to a flight plan using FS9's built in planner, or with a 3rd party application such as FSNAV? I'd like to add a "marker" of some kind to aid FS-Blaze users in locating fires. What would be the best type to use? I'd like the user to be able to add the waypoints to a flight plan. One user has suggested ADFs, but I'll be adding over a thousand of these in peak fire season...not sure if that's a problem in and of itself, but could they all be the same frequency? Thanks in advance…

Hi all, I am making approach lights system for an airport, using Gmax and compiling with FS2002 SDK. There's just one problem that stays unsolved for the moment. I can't find a way to make my approach lights shine in the direction I want, and not to be all-directional. There have been some threads already about that problem, but these people were making their lights with FSDS2, and I do not use it... (ex. http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...5084&mode=full) How should I change the .asm code of my model to make the light shine to the South, for example, and not to the North? Thank you for reply:)

The improved, and potentially even better, ground texture capabilities of FSX will make objects that are not textured look bland and unreal. The use of solid bright colors on polygons should be passe. There have been many examples of good artistic texturing. A standard, in my humble opinion (IMHO), is the Georender series. once on the ground they look great but setting on FS9 "slime", viewed from a low altitude, the seemed out of place. Now, with less "slime"(1m or better) such well done objects will offer an improved sense of realism. Object size proportion and brightness will also become more critical as ground textures (and PCs) advance. The autogen of the FSX demo see…

  18. Hi allI have been doing alot of project where the ground id so uneven that the grid I place is all up and down with the terrain, making correct lat and long placement allot more trying and time consumingI thought about this before but due to procrastination , well you know how it is.I thought about flattening the area within the grid turns out perfectly straight for my screenshot, hopefully making the process of aquiring the lat and long locations for my project much easier. Will this work or is there a better way.Right now i doing Cranbrook BC and its up and down like a toilet seat .Thanks Alhttp://www.flightontario.com/images/sig_asibley.gif

I'm very impressed by the demo, it bodes well for FSX when it's released.Has anyone tried importing scenery into the demo? I tried my Karakam scenery. The terrain mesh works fine, but building objects were transparent. The biggest problem is with the generic textures. I copied the generic textures used by the scenery into Addon Scenerytextures, but no joy. The terrain is black.I have also found that the FSX generic textures cannot be opened in DXTBMP and several other utilities. The format is obviously changed. Does anyone know of a utility that can open these .bmp files. And is it possible to create textures in the correct format? Best regards, Chris

Could some post a like to this file or would someone be kind enough to share it with me? Thanks in advance...

So I read everything in the 2004 SDK and it looked very easy. I found the scenery object that I wanted (gen_beconlandcone) and then attached it to an object in Gmax, then animated both objects in the usual way, -it looked fine in Gmax. But in the sim the light beam rotated 90 degrees so it was pointing straight up, and presumably is rotating around its own long vertical axis, while the original gmax object continued rotating as expected. I came across this a while back in the early days of Gmax - but I can't remember the trick. I tried rotating the pivot and the attach point through 90 but that didn't work.I am trying to reproduce the excellent MS rotating airport beac…
