I wonder if someone can explain why the default "OBJECT LIBRARY FILE" in FS9, (maybe the same situation for FSX, haven't tried yet), refers to numerous scenery files and GUID's that apparently do not exist or work when compiled from an XML file? For example, I did a complete search for several default scenery files and only found a few that actually had default bitmap textures in the appropriate scenery folder. These files displayed with no problems when compiled. Most did not. As an example, the following object is listed: VEH_air_bagcart2 545a2a611d2e2ec1000849c2ae60c5a but it's associated texture bmp is no where to be found in any folders of FS9. Evidently this is w…

I have been using ExcBuilderV2 in FS9... However it doesn't work in FSX because of FSConnect not compatible...??? I may be wrong but that is what I am finding out.. How can we now Exclude "All objects" from an area in FSX.. I assume this means objects, autogen objects and trees... Hopefully not to complex...Ray Lunning

I am totally new to making scenery in Flight Simulator.I would dearly like to know how to do it so I can make some great scenery. I have tried using FSX KML, which broadly speaking I have been able to use to change the ground textures around.I have a few questions: 1) How do you change the default shorelines in FSX? I make a new one, but all I get is a line in the middle of the sea or on land with waves!2) Is there a way to view how the scenery looks without loading up FSX every time? 3) Is there a way to exclude everything in an area and (except airports and mesh) and start from scratch? and will this mess up the sea and the seasons?4) Is there an application that …

Hi guys, hope someone has an answer for this. My nephew last night pulled the power out from the PC and unpon restart, Gmax has a few differences I can't figure out how to fix. When I click on an object with the hand pointer the object turns to a simple geometric object until I stop moving it instead of staying in it's current wireframe shape. Also the gizmo which used to highlight X, Y, or Z arrows when selecting it to move a certain way does not highlight any longer so I can't select X, Y or Z only all, any ideas? Is there a way to default everything as that was pretty much the state it was in and what I have become used to.Regards, MichaelKDFW Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe nFor…

FSX Resample/Night Texture FrustrationsI have successfully used resample to produce Day photoreal scenery. The area is fairly large, about 900 square miles. To produce night textures I do a great deal of processing of the Day textures to produce a set of night textures. Unfortunately, some Paint Shop Pro processes needed to get the desired appearance shuts down PSP for lack of memory.Alternate step one was to split the Day file into 2 parts so that I could produce the night textures successfully. It was a bit of a hassle to go thru through the steps to get those two sets of photo sceneries to match up. I tested this with Day textures during the day to better see the …

I have observed for some time that what ever gets processed thru the SDK tools never comes close to that which is done through other tools.Looking at the result of an outputed WGS84/LatLon image sutable for the SDK tools and then compare the result after the textures are made for FS you can see that the image is squished from output by GIS only then be resampled and expanded back to a somewhat "normal" looking texture, resizing aspect ratio and then resizing aspect ratio again is never good as details are lost. Expand 50-100%, change aspect ratio once and then resize back down would be one thing, but to do what we are doing to good data (aspect resampled twice)is bork to …

Hi,I want to change roof colours in FSX. In FS2004, I took for North America area, texture templates BLDB2.bmp and BLDC2.bmp, converted it to 24bit Bitmap repainted the roofs, converted it back and got new roof colours in FS.I applied the same process to BLDB2.dds and BLDB3.bmp in FSX, but there was not any change in FSX. Did I take the wrong templates, i.e. BLDB2.dds and BLDB3.bmp are not assigned to North America area ? Or is there basically any different process in FSX ?RegardsBruno

  10. I took a geoTiff photo with 30cm resolution and ran it through resample with LOD=Auto directive. With this setting, it created textures at all LODs 13-17. My question is, what is the advantage of doing this, rather than just creating textures at LOD=17, where I assume the mips would be used if necessary? Is there a performance difference? Is there an advantage to using the Auto LOD rather than creating separate files at various LODs, say 13, 15, and 17? With just a quick look, it seems like I could maybe do better down sampling my source data to 4.75m/pixel and then running resample LOD 13 on it, rather than letting resample do it (I think this is sim to the past wh…

I know the bgl gets very large but what is recomended .One of my test areas was about 6x6 aprox kilometers and the corresponding bgl is about 32 mbis that ok or can I go biggerAny helpappreciatedGregNew Zealand

Has anyone successfully assembled photoreal bitmaps over a couple of kilometers from Google Earth (Plus)?.....I cannot get sequential image captures to overlay correctly because of some kind of pincushion effects that I suspect Google uses to discourage this kind of large bitmap assembly. My area is in very high resolution and would make a great scenery.

Hello,Not sure if this is the right forum. I need some direction. Is there a Utility to detect duplicate or conflicting .bgl files ? I'm 'flaming out' (read=crashing) when climbing out of KSEA in both default or add-on aircraft. The sim also 'crashed' while I was enroute Portland to Vancouver 6500'MSL when I was over the Seattle area. No new scenery installed recently; one add-on aircraft.I'm trying to check out whether the problem is scenery-related, thus the search for errant.bgl files. Thanks

I am looking at the new seasons.bgl file. The resolution is LOD5 (1.2 km). My question is how/where did MS get the source data for this? I'm guessing that maybe they took a less-detailed definition (from where?) and maybe modulated it with elevation.scott s..

My image was from as far as I can tell "NAD83 New York State Plane Coordinate System UTM Zone 18"I can reproject this from my GIS to WGS84, Do I also change to Geological LatLon or use UTM/WGS84.I am very confused by all the options in the GIS, I did a reprojection using GeoLatLon/WGS84 and the result was a slite image rotation (good) but it also squished the image way too much so something wrong. Also PS is limitted to image size smaller than 30000x30000 ??? I have 2 GIGs memory and permanant 3 gig swap file for doing large work and have turned off any "undo" commands but 30000x30000 is still the limit.???Thanks for any suggestions

Hi all,I am looking to make a hybrid version of FSX using FS9, as my megre spec PC just cant cope with all the lovely extra detail in FSX!One of things I want to do is to recreate the same excellent grass textures around the runways that exists in FSX (like KORD) into FS9. As the default FS9 grass areas around the runways look pretty awful in FS9. But the new textures in FSX look far better and I would therefore like to incorporate these into FS9. Is it possible to simply copy the textures across into FS9, until I can afford a super Computer to run FSX?If so which files do we need to copy across, I would like to do this on all of the main Airports in FS9.Apologies if I ha…

Is there a comprehensive list of commands for the new resamler? I question if we can controle output for textures to be 256/512 or 1024, another words if I make a new inf file from my old data with my old large image data that was a multiple of 256 will it now get resized at 1024?on the other hand there is a lot that can be done with 512x15 and just leave the airport for 1024x1024...Hope some of this makes some sense, I just dont see full documentation of the commands in the SDK.Any help appreciated.

Greetings, this post represents my first foray into the realm of FS scenery design. Unfortunately, the idea I have chosen to work on for my first project is rather ambitious, and the FSX scenery engine isn't nearly as friendly as I anticipated even with the help of the SDKs.At it's most basic level what I'm trying to accomplish is fairly straightforward--I want to take a 256x256 black and white image representing a water mask, and process it into a BGL as an LWM water poly. The difficulties stem from the (apparent) inability to use raster images as water masks. This has prompted me to attempt writing a program to convert raster images into vector data, but this has pro…

I've started another project that involves editing landclass values. Unfortunately I've hit a wall because I have no idea which textures are assigned to each landclass value. I have no idea why this information was left out of the FSX SDK, but nonetheless I have started compiling this valuable information.Below is what I've figured out during my prelimary examination, but I believe this could be speeded up with help from the community. If anyone has any knowledge of which textures go to a certain landclass, or if it appears there is a mistake in the current list, please mention it in this thread. I will do my best to keep this list up-to-date. Thanks!v0.1# Label …

Hi there,I ran the resample.exe tool a few times based on the sample data provided by Microsoft.I noticed some compression statistics in the end providing how many "blocks" were compressed and with which particular method. These blocks do not seem to match with the number of texture tiles created by RESAMPLE.EXE hence i assume the blocks are simply a fixed number of bytes long. The tool contains multiple compression methods. It would appear that it always picks the "best" method for each block.PTCSolid BlockBitPack And LZ1BitPack And LZ2BitPack CompressedDelta And LZ2 CompressedDelta And LZ1 CompressedDelta CompressedLZ1 CompressedLZ2 CompressedNot CompressedIs there a …

FSX vs FS9/Scasm differences. After loading some scenery designed for FS9 into FSX I noticed some objects, walls or roofs of buildings missing. Incredibly, I had to reverse the numbering from clockwise to counter clockwise to correct the problem. And it is not consistent, since some buildings, roofs, and walls appear fine with the clockwise numbering. Am I imagining this or is this a major MS FSX screwup? Its hard to imagine why MS would have lines and areas using colored specifications, not textured, to flash different colors at different distances from the object. Could be this is their way of warning us to move on to other design programs. I was very disappointed to …

Hi all,I am a newbie to scenery design. I'm trying to create from scratch both AFCADs and possibly sceneries for my native airfields in Azerbaijan which are poorly represented in FS9. I would be gratiful if someone could answer a couple of questions on airport design:1. How can I change ICAO codes of any default airport so that I DON'T modify the default *.bgl files in "scenery/world/asia/scenery" folder. Is this possible to give an override command to FS engine like that given thru AF2-XXXX.bgl files? Eg.: ICAO code for my native airfield Nakhichevan Intl. (Nakhichevan, Azerbaijan) is UBBN while the FS2004-assigned code is UB0F (0 - zero).2. AFCAD Manager (the only one f…
