Hi all,Making progress here, I have FSX SBuilder working, and figured out a few other things, but have come against a problem excluding the default airport fences (very good of MS to put them in - but they need some modification)I have tried an exclusion rectangle for "ALL OBJECTS" and "LIBRARY OBJECTS" neither have any effect. I am wondering if I need to cover the whole fence or just a part of it (like I have done for excluding roads and utilities in SBuilder)Thanks for any advice,Geoff

This is a somewhat esoteric topic, probably of little interest to most. In my projects, I have a great need of coconut palm groves. For example:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/165492.jpgIt is mostly coconut (or sp.) with light smatterings of other varied vegetation (coccoluba uvifera - the sea grape - or terminalia catappa - the tropical "almond", for example) The new vegetation in FS X is lovely and extremely varied, there are a lot of coconut palms, and it is possible to simply place trees manually. But, this is a tedious solution at best, and highly impractical in the tropics. In my meanderings through the configuration files, I had noticed that a new land class val…

  3. Hello.I am looking for a tutorial on how to add autogen to Photorealistic Sceneries. The way it is done by http://www.francevfr.com/ is absolutely breattaking, and the Scenery I had in mind for some additional autogen is http://www.danvfr.com/index.html wich appears cuite flat, as many Photorealistic Sceneries does.I have already downloadet annotator tool from Microsoft but needs a program like agnlocator.exe that displays the name of the tile you're flying above in FS => helps you to identify which tile to open in Annotator for rework. Agnlocator is a small utility made by France VFR, but the manual is in French, wich is a problem for me to read ( To put it mildly!)An…

  4. Hi all. I posted this over on the fs9 forum, but maybe that was the wrong place, so appologies if your reading this a second time!Over the holiday I loaded up FSG North America, GE Pro, UT USA, Portland and Rhode Island - and somewhere in there I noticed my aircraft are now taxying (on the pan/concrete taxyways) as though they are on grass: i.e. they "lope": the nose goes up and down, and there is visible dirt being thrown up from the gear. It's not so noticable in a taildragger, but it's still there, and really noticeable in the 727. It applies to all airports I've tried. It seems to be loading the wrong "whatsitcalled" texture or function, but I don't know where to star…

I'm am completely new to MSFS2004- my wife gave it to me as a Christmas gift- but I got interested in the addition of scenery because the default scenery shipped for New Brunswick, Canada is poor at best.So I got the SDK from Microsoft, read the documentation, got Read_DEM.exe and downloaded a bunch of the 1:50,000 CDED1 data for a small area of the province. I've followed all the instructions but when I finally got my .BGL file it doesn't seem to offer much more detail than what's currently being displayed. In particular I'm looking at Grand Manan Island where the eastern shores are mostly beaches and the western coast cliffs over 100 meters in height. Default data create…

Hi all, along with my new coastline, are flat areas between the shoreline and the first meshy hills which in reality are not that flat. At some zones we have a steep coast and my impression is, that the mesh-data in FSX follow not exactly the real shoreline. An example shows this picture: http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/164277.jpgTill now, I only have worked with Landclass-Polygons. I am interested in knowing whether one can make altitude settings within this technique? The flat areas would not look so artificial with that. Also yacht docks would look better.Or is it necessary to do that with GMAX (as an example)? Thanks youRegardsBodo

Hey all,I'm trying in vain to get the Object Scenery placer to work. I've activated the addon in the DLL.XML file and I get the Option to load it from the toolbar. When I go to open 'Object Placement Tool' from the toolbar the screen goes black and the placement tool opens. In other words, I can no longer see my aircraft or surrounds in FSX. When I select an object and click 'Add', I get a message telling to to move closer to the ground.I've followed the help/tutorial threads and file from Luis, and from what I can see, when I open the placer, I shoudl still be able to see my aircraf/surrounds in FSX?Any body with any ideas?Cheers,Kael

Guys, I want to use this program to look at a Bgl file, but the readme does not indicate the proper syntax for using the program. To save myself some possible headaches, do I run the program and follow prompts, or run the program from a command line, or ??Thanks for your help and info.

The "Generic Building" section of the FSX SDK file on compiling BGL (SDKEnvironment KitBGL Compiler SDKCompiling BGL.html) references textured ids. It says to "See Generic Wall Textures".Can anyone tell me where to locate the texture ids? I performed a search of the entire SDK and can't find any further reference.Thank you.

Most airports in the US have the name written in large white letters on one of the runways.I have always used FSSC to reproduce this by placing a DXT3 file with an Alpha channel in the appropriate spot as a Background Image and checked the "Visible in FS" box. (they have to be 512 x 512 1024 x 512 etc)Amazingly the objects I created (first in FS2002 then moved to FS2004) still work fine in FSX (even with ground scenery shadows on!)But I was wondering if there is another program these days that can achieve the same thing. I have used resample.exe to place much larger polygons with transparency but that seems a bit cumbersome...Any ideas?Geoff

Using the new tools i managed to produce a nice ground texture and watermask, but I am stumped by the annotator tool. in FS9 i could annotate each individual texture, but now it's all lumped into a single bgl, no textures to annotate... i tried adding autogen by opening the BGL in Annotator and i was surprised to see my entire texture show up. I fiddled around with the settings of the annotator (very confusing) and placed a few building and a few trees. FSX crashed everytime... so, is anyone having luck doing what im trying to do? the SDK is very vague on this and I'm starting to wonder if it has anything to do with my default.xml? (i may have overwritten the original bac…

Here is some text from the resample part of the Terrain FSX SDK....."quote"Channel_BlendMask integer.integer Source number and band number used for the blend channel. This 8-bit blend mask channel for aerial imagery controls the transparency of the image when pasted onto the terrain. As an example this is used around the edges of the St. Maarten island image to blend gradually between the aerial photo water and the generic water. The blending channel is read from the 4th (zero-based) band of TIFF or GeoTIFF images, unless this parameter is used to change it. "unquote"Fine...I read this to mean now we can see through coastline water at a coastline

  17. Hi there- Ive posted this on scenerydesign.org but with no luck so far. Hopefully someone can give me a quick responseIm exporting two photoreal images of an Island from ArcGISThe first image contains the actual photo of the island and the boundary extends out to include the sub-surface features that i want to show through the water effect. The boundary of this is limited by a uniform bright green colour which is then removed using the 'nullvalue' in the inf fileThe second image is the land/water mask and this has its black/white boundary around the actual shoreline of the island. The effect im wanting is to have 1) The photo land texture defined as land2) The photo water …

I've been trying the new FSX version of SBuilder and ran into some problems creating an island. Here's what I've done so far.1. Created an "exclude all terrain" polygon that straddles two Hydro polygons and two other "exclude shorelines" polygons for the default shorelines in each grid. (SUCCESSFUL)2. Traced my island with FSKML and imported it into sbuilder through the import shape command (SUCCESSFUL)3. Created a hydro polygon around the area my island is located and used the imported polygon from (2) to punch a whole through it. (SUCCESSFUL)4. Created roads with the line tool (SUCCESSFUL)5. Created shorlines with line tool. These are really just beaches so they'r…

My favorite FS2004/FS9 scenery manager was Flight Sim Manager by Rana Hossain. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with FSX. One of the problems was that it had an expiration date in 2005. That is overcome with the following program:http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kdl/main/58/s...sm.zip?yIkpt04ZOther problems are related to the new location of the Scenery.cfg file. To overcome this I placed a copy of the FS9.EXE file in the folder where the scenery.cfg for FSX resides. You also need an Aricraft folder since FSM looks for this as well. Copy the FS9 Aircraft folder from FS9 to the folder where the FSX scenery folder resides. You need to start FSM and tell it that FS2004 is act…

I have a scenery package which installs three folders.1. North2. NorthExcl3. SouthAirports from the south regions are perfect but those from the northern side show no runways: all buildings are there but the runways are invisible or non-existant. I haven't seen any AI aircraft takeoff or land but I can watch them taxiing.I downloaded AFCAD with the only purpose of fixing this and I opened one working airport and a broken one to find a difference. The only thing I could notice is that all the non working airports appear as "Mod" with bold letters in layer 41 along another "Stock" version in gray letters in layer 8 in the Open Airport dialog of AFCAD whereas the working air…

OK have been out of action trying to optimize FSX and it is time to get back to scenery design again...Not sure what users are reporting as problems with FS9 scenery in FSX but I noticed that the main issue appears to be ground tearing which means default ground poking through the photoreal and AFW designed polygons. It appears that the main fix for this should be a flatten in the FSX 'language'. Is this done with the shp2vec tool? Is this contained in the FSX SDK? What else have you gurus figured out which could help in conversion of the sceneries? Thanks for any help.ShezP.S. Where is Arno?

I am having trouble redesigning a stock airport file. When taking off from KDYT, a float plane airport in Duluth, MN, there are taxi/runway markers in the water (I am using Ultimate Terrain and FS Genesis mesh which may be the cause). I have tried removing these runways, moving them, changing their elevation, deleting the nodes, and deleting the taxi lines using AFCAD2 and I cannot get the markers to disappear.I am restarting FS9 eachtime I save my modified AFCAD file and they are still there. Are there any suggestions on how to deal with this ? I don't understand why the signs would still be there when I have deleted both runways.Any help is appreciated. Thanks -Blake

Hi. I've stumbled across an anomaly with the landclass project I've been working on, and I'm stumped on what could be causing it.The screenshot shows a place in Canada which uses a large number of "Evergreen Forest And Fields" (#19) tiles. Although this tile doesn't exhibit any wierdness in the default scenery, with my scenery it displays occasional clumps of some sort of tropical broadleaf vegetation. I've checked and rechecked the landclass BGL in TmfViewer and there aren't any tiles in the vicinity that could be interfering.Does anyone have any ideas on where this vegetation could be coming from?http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/164520.jpg
