Last June, I start flight lessons. It requires 5hrs of cross country solo flying and another 5hrs of solo time. One of my cross country flights was to Gainsville, FL from Orlando, FL and return (hopefully).I also set up the flight in MSFS, usually FS2004, and practice the flight. I also use NAV3.1 on a second computer as a moving map display. When I loaded the flight plan I noticed that the Gainsville VOR was not at the airport but located approximately 8.5 miles Southwest of Gainsville Airport. NAV3.1 uses the MSFS NAVAID database to fill out the moving map display. However, Ted Wright, NAV3.1 designer, hasn't been able to crack the new FS2004 Scenery format, NAV3.…

Hey guys-I'm still working on my FS2004 San Diego harbor project. I've been working on the ships based at the 32nd St. Naval Station, and would like to improve the look of the piers. Is it possible to alter the stock scenery? I have no experience at scenery design other than creating an object in GMAX and importing it into 2004.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/48674.jpgFor example...getting the scenery at the head of the pier to match the superimposed line. Also, I'd like to remove the piers and replace them with my own. I'm willing to spend the time learning, but it sure would help to know it's possible before I dive in!Thanks-Robert

Hi,Does anyone know whether this is still possible and what the syntax is to specify a specific flight to have FS2004 come up with that ? I think it used to be possible with earlier versions of FS, not sure whether this still works with FS2004.This is useful to start FS in the middle of nowhere (where loading is a bit quicker) for scenery object design.Regards,Siggy

Hi all,Well, I installed Ground2K4 over my previous installation, and it overwrote the ownlines.txt file. I noticed in the docs that it mentioned that "Gound2K4ResourceOwnkines4.txt will contain only your own lines.", which I find odd. The result is that when you try to edit a line, it comes up with blanks where the lines numbers used to be.Is this a mistake? Or was it done for a reason. I can find an old copy of ownlines.txt on an older installation, but I am afraid of missing something important in the newer version. Maybe somebody could post their own ownlines.txt file for me here? While were on the topic, the docs mention that you can add your own lines to ownline…

Hello,i'm trying to modify default-lwm-rivers in Germany (not the small vtp-lines). I converted the mistyped LOD13-Area with Ground2k. There is a button called F1, where i can fill an LOD13-Area with land.To eliminate the shorelines is no problem, i exclude the layer 8.Then I draw a new LWM-Polyline in the usual way.If I do so, everything seems to be perfect. The river is shown correctly, but if I use the flightplanner or the gps-system from FS2004, FS2004 will crash. This also happens, if I make changes in the weather system. Maybe it has something to do with the drawing of the Microsoft-Maps, cause all these parts from FS2004 are working with a Map, where I can see my n…

In my scenery I had to move the entire airport slightly. But when I moved the taxiways in Afcad2 there's one area that doesn't move.I think it is the old taxiway/parking.I have tried the Exclude in "Airport for windows" but this excludes everything.Does anybody know how to get rid of this?Or what layer it's on?It is on ENOV.

Hi,I found a good map with LOD13 cells in 256 colors, i want to use it in Ground2k.I contains roads, forrest, railroads, house prints and alot more.I want to use Ground2k to create roads, coastlines, and some ground polys, then i want to create a new set of autogen (houses and forrest)I want the new autogen to allign with the new roads and stuff, but how do i do that, since ground2k dont create textures and AGN files, it only draw the roads and stuff inside a BGL file.To allign the autogen to the roads and forrest map, i want use the house/forrest prints. ?Can i make a texture set of the map and use them in annoator to draw the autogen and then make them full transperant wh…

Hi all:since the release of my Canadian Rockies mesh/scenery upgrades I've had a few inquiries about my efforts at 'modelling' the many hrydroelectric dams in the Castlegar area. No rocket science at all (and definitely not as good as a nice GMax model) but since there seems to be some interest/curiosity... Perhaps others have even better ideas.Basically, my dams have four components:1. The dammed lake and river below are regular LWM water polys with shore2. A small rectangular LWM polygon (land) with an elevation about 3 meters above the lake elevation; this is my flat dam crown3. A larger VTP2 polygon (without shore, layer 19) that covers the entire area between the lak…

Gurus,It was easy to get the GUID details from the vehicles.bgl file in FS2002 and then use them in placing them as objects into one's scenery using normal apis referenced to the GUID. I tried to now find the vehicle.bgl in FS2004 and run FSRegen on it. Unfortunately it appeared to me that a new format output resulted which did not resemble the library code from FS2002.Any solution to figuring out the GUID codes for FS2004? Which bgl are the vehicles in?Shez

How can I find out wich texture set goes with wich autogen value in ez-landclass, for example value 36? Must I create a texture folder with my landclass .bgl scenery folder in fs2004? If I change the autogen texture in one cell, does that change the texture of that particular autogen value everywhere? please help a beginner.

Thanks to help and advice from this forum (also the excellent ground 2K and FSSC) I have been able to complete my first scenery project. I have tested it out lots and don't have any problems with it when I start my flights from within this scenery. My problem is that when approaching the area (usually about 70 miles out) the sim crashes to the desktop with no warning or error message. Sometimes when I use the GPS the sim crashes and gives a terrain.dll error message. This only appears to happen in FS9. Does anyone know a way of "curing" this problem as I would hate to publish my scenery with a major flaw in it? By the way, my scenery is the Seychelles and comprises a numb…

HiMy airport that I designed for FS2002 works pretty well in FS2004 except for a few objects that were part of the default airport and that my exclusion area done in Architect2002 does not seem to exclude themFor exemple, a telephone pole, a radar, ILS boxes and a VOR resist the exclusion. Are those part of the new Autogent format? the xml?Is there a know way to exclude them?ThanksMichel

Does anyone know how the Microsoft engine blends the ground textures together at the edges?I remember in FS2K that the ground texture polygons had very defined edges to them. One could see where the one ended and the next started. However this dissapeared in FS2K2 and up.I haven't done any scenery design for FS2K* but I'm interested in how the textures are blended together.ThanksPaul

I built another test pad. This time a 2.5m square, .1m thick, elevated 20m above the surface on a cylinder that is 1 meter in diameter. I place the invisible plane/mesh as usual, however, unlike my previous experiment above a 5m diameter cylinder, the helicopter now falls through the helipad after just a couple of seconds.Thinking this might be a contact point problem after reviewing the contact points, I added contact points to provide landing surface close enough togeather to land on such a small pad. This changed nothing.Am I missing something? Has anyone had and solved this problem?Patrick

Gurus,Am not sure if this has been addressed before but how to correct the ground polygon developed in GMAX flickering in FS2004? In FSDS there was the z-bias setting which resolved this but what to do in GMAX?ThanksShez

Just wondering if anyone knows where the approach paths are stored in FS2002/2004.. What I am getting at is how does the plane know how to circle, or bank at 2 miles final when 40 degrees off to land. Are there "paths" in the sky?Are these editable at all? What I really want to do is add gthe ability for AI traffic in FS2002 to be able to do the LDA/DAM 26L approach in Honolulu... can this even be done in 2002? I see it being done in 2004...is there a file I can copy over? Why not use 2004 then... too many reasons why! Thanks,Chris

So I havn't taken the plunge and moved to Fs2004 yet, but I have been looking at some of the scenery files already available, to see if they work in fs2002 - the .BGL bit does but what are the .HMR and .B1 texture files? I searched here and in other places but no information. They look like .BMP files, and if you rename them DXTBmp opens them, but Imagetool and Fs2002 don't..Geoff

Has Microsoft released to the general public a bugfix for the Gmax/XP file corruption? If not has anybody installed the hotfix?I got the hotfix from MS. It contains 3 files: 2 self extracting archives and a txt file that appears to describe the installation hotfixes using an executable file that is not included in either archive. The archives don't include instructions either. There are 2 inf files with the same name placed in sp1 and sp2 directories respectively and 3 executables one named update.exe along with some dll's and other filesOr has everyone else just uninstalled the bug fix that started all this and run behind a firewall?
