When I insert a line or a poly using G2K4, can I amend its properties (ie making it a line with shore rather than a line without shore or making it a poly with shore rather than a line with shore) or do I need to delete that particular line or poly and start again?Victor

Hisorry to bother you all with this really basic stuff - I'm not a sceney designer, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I have some ships (in FS2002) in the southern hemisphere that I'd like to put in the English channel. I have absolutely no idea how to go about this but I'm sure you scenery experts will easily be able to enlighten me! What should I do, and how should I do it?Many thanks,Mike Bagwell

I designed a new AFCAD file for KSEA, but when I put it in, the default gates in MSFS dont line up with where I put the gates. This is a serious problem, I have gates scattered everywhere, and they don't line up with the docking guidance. Crap!Is there any way to -easily- integrate the Jetway Macros by Mr. Ansari into my scenery? Or any way to make sure the default MSFS9 gates line up?Any help would be appreciated,Andrew Tunall

Hi all.The University of Wisconsin has developed a GIS tool that has some good funtionality, called fGIS:http://www.digitalgrove.net/fgis.htmOne of it's capabilities is to export a portion of an image derived from vector data ( shape files and the like ). Also, you can create and edit point, line and area shapefile objects of your own. And these shapefiles can be reprojected within limitations. This means you can draw on a UTM projected raster image, save the drawn lines and polys, reload and reproject them ( if needed ), and save the image, or portion of image with georeferencing. That produces a drawing that can be used in G2k4 and other programs that need lat/long geor…

Hi all,Last week I released a beta version of my new tool MDL Tweaker. Because my site went down after that I don't think it has reached many people yet.MDL Tweaker allows you to change a Fs2004 MDL scenery object, without having to edit the ASM code yourself. It allows tweaks like rotation to the user or wind and also allows you to set display conditions to the entire object. For more information and download please have a look here:http://www.scenerydesign.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=24

I've started to work on a project to amend the default FS9 lakes, rivers and roads around the Grand Tetons using Holger Sandmann's satellite images. It's my first project so I decided to take one step at a time. To start with I decided to amend the lakes. I inputted them into G2k4 and then loaded what I had done so far into FS9 just to see what it looked like. The new lakes are fine. However, where I have amended a default lake, I can see the outline of my new shoreline running into the old lake (as per the attached screenshot). I'm not quite sure where I've gone wrong. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/78498.jpg

Hi all.I don't know if this has been noticed, but the NIMA server has substantially upgraded its offer of DOI 10m satellite shots; now it is possible to download a bitmap about four times as big as the usual, in a resolution also four times as good (max 4801 x 4801 pixels; that is, a 10 mb bitmap). The bitmaps are orthorectified, and a test in Ground2k shows that they are as precise as the former 901 x 901 pixels - no deviation. This means that as long as your computer can handle such a big bitmap in Ground2k it is now possible to design large areas of scenery in about a quarter of the time previously needed, and with better precision. A big advance! The link: http://geoen…

Hi,Soon after the 2004 BGL Comp SDK was issued I created a number of excludes using the new .xml format. Everything worked as expected, the default scenery was removed and I was allowed to install my own scenery with no problems.Today I created another exclude for an ajoining area using the same format, in fact the identical macro with only the lat/long changed. As expected the default scenery was removed but also my own custom scenery. That was a surprise. All exclude files, old and new, are in the same folder ( addon sceneryscenery )and the custom scenery is in its own folder set to a higher priority ( Lower # in the scenery library ). It is probably something obvious bu…

I created a simple building using FSDS2, exporting as API macro and mounting on airport with FS ARchitect. When producing BGL from Arhitect I get error - unknown command in scasm file... 'bglversion' or something like that...pointing to a specific line in the scasm code.If I produce BGL directly from FSDS2 it works fine. What do I miss? I want it as a macro.Per

My website www.SceneryDesign.org is back online again. Please have a look at the announcements to see which changes I have made, as I am using a different forum now. Also the tips are not back online, I will start adding them again in the coming days. So it should still take a little while before the site is fully operative again. But you can already post your questions again :).

I have a copy of FSDS which is patched to v1.6. Anyone else using this program who thinks upgrading to the latest version, which is 2.4 I believe, worthwhile or beneficial?

Hi all,I'm working with the GLC2000 landclass data and have encountered two problems:1. The area is larger than a LOD5 tile. Resample.exe (I tried all three versions) compiles the .raw file without problem as one large area except that it places class "255" = water in areas along the edges for which I don't have source data. Any way I can avoid that or have it use "254" = transparent instead?2. For further editing in EZ-Landclass I'd prefer to have the area split into LOD5 (256x256) raw files. What's the easiest approach for that?Obviously, I could cut my source data into LOD5 tiles and export them individually but that seems rather tedious.Cheers, Holger

I wonder, because whenever I fly within UK area scenery, I get LOW fps and my swap memory rises hight over 1GB. No where else do I experience this.Attached is my scenery.cfg as txt file. Why do I get this? Is it because I use LAGOS MESH there or is it because I use UK2000 scenery Part 1 to 6 all? Or is it because I use FSGenesis Mesh bgl's and textures there?Every and any help from you is very welcome!

I've done a little scenery design in FS2002 using AFW and EOD. I like to include a few people around the Alaskan GA terminal I've created. At the moment I'm in the process of transferring all my FS2002 sceneries over to FS9 (on a different PC). Unfortunately, the 'people' textures now show with a blue background where before this was transparent. So I guess I have lost the alpha channel somewhere during the transfer into FS9. I've tried using BMP2000 to correct this but have had no joy. I've also tried adding alpha channels with Photoshop 7/Imagetool but again, no joy. I'm a novice at everything - I wonder if some kind person could talk me through a solution? Thanks!

So, I am looking at getting started with scenery design. I live on the west coast, PDX area, and am really looking for some good scenery for KPDX, KHIO, KSEA, KBFI, CYVR etc. I have a few bits and pieces, but nothing that really makes me happy. First, is there any freeware scenery that is -really- good for these areas? Second, how would I get started with airport scenery design. What programs do I need? Are there any good tutorials? Can I use predesigned pieces such as jetways, taxiway textures etc? Also, if there is anyone currently working on freeware projects for these airports and would like some help from someone who is good with computers, and is trying to learn grap…

I was wondering what was the best way to realign smallish sections of rivers in FS9. For example both the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison have rivers that deviate up and down the walls of the canyons. I know that Ground2k4 is something that could be used but I was wondering if there were other (easier to use?) programs that could be used for small areas and/or for just moving roads rivers.

Ok I asked a couple of days ago regarding other programs, apart from Ground2k4 for creating rivers for FS9. As I didn't get any answers, I guess that G2k4 is the best bet. I've therefore decided to have a go adding the rivers around Yellowstone NP using G2k4 and Holger Sandmann's satellite images posted to Avsim. After making a tentative start, I have a few questions.Do I need to exclude all the default roads/rivers? According to the G2k for beginners, I need to click on each area that I wish to exclude default scenery from. The image has hundreds!! Is there a "one click covers all" method? The main river I'm inserting is fairly wide in parts. The way I understand it, I ne…

Hi, people! After read a lot of topics about this subject, I have not found a simple answer to my question... :(Let me explain what I want:I want to make little polygons with a grass texture, but with an autogen of vegetation (trees). For example, if my texture of grass is called GRAMA.BMP, what must I do to have my polygons with this texture (GRAMA.BMP) and an autogen with trees? Is this possible? It's important to say that I want both polygons of grass with autogen and polygons of grass without autogen. Please someone explain me 'step-by-step' what must I do with Ground2K4 to reach this (if possible, of course!!)...Thanks a lot!P.S.: Sorry about my English. I'm not good wi…

From within FS9 (or Fs2002) is there any way to determine exactly which 256x256 texture tile from the world/scenery/texture folder you are looking at at any given point on the terrain? I have tried printing off contact sheets of some of the textures, but it is hard trying to identify which is which.I am interested in merging default textures with photoreal textures (see previous post on photoreal colouring).Regards
