If there's anyone out there who's feeling a bit jaded with flight simming, take a break fron hauling heavy metal and twin engined gin-palaces around featureless skies...Fetch a bush plane like a SuperCub or a Beaver up to PARC, Alaska.Take off & fly about 345 Magnetic, and shortly you'll see a HUMONGOUS chain of mountains appear. (I thought northern Alaska was mostly flat Tundra, my charts stop at Fairbanks).About 15 miles out a couple of good size lakes appear, close by is a river that ties a knot in itself. (Have a look, you'll see what I mean). Then just keep going, until your fuel runs out or you come upon PABA (Barber's Island, I think it is), about 230 miles in a…

I have seen some scenery files in the library that refer to soaring and thermals. What is the add on product that allows you to create a thermal? Is it possible to add the thermal "bump" that I feel in real life during approach to runway 25 at 1N9? Also is the strength of the thermal automatically adjusted for the temperature of the air and the likeliness that a higher ground temp would increase the strength of the thermal?GW

A while back there was a short thread about lost keyboard assignments - in particular the key for frame rate and a couple of others. I had this problem, and another user suspected it was the SceneryUSA demo, which I'd also installed. Last night I noticed that my Pushback key (the standard Shift-P) was no longer assigned, along with Ctrl-Shift_F1 for fuel cutoff. The only thing that I'd done that was the slightest bit unusual was install the nice Dusseldorf (EDDL) scenery which was posted a few days back. Like SceneryUSA, this was not a simple Zip, but instead a self-installer EXE program. I suspect the Installer is the problem, but I've got no way to verify it. Anybod…

I am running windows xp with a Gforce Ti4200 card with 41.09 drivers and the results are ok but like most simmers I want more;)

Hi All,I know this is a very open post but would like some help from experts. I currently have an p-4 2.4 northwood@400 on an asus p4t-e motherboard with 1 gb of pc-800 rdram. I have an ge-force ti 4600.I want to build a system with the p-4 3.06 cpu with the 533 fsb and want to upgrade video card to an ati 9800 or possibly an nvidia card that is 8x agp. I need to know what type of ram to use and what motherboard to get that will get best performance for FS. Also whether to go with 512 or 1 gb of ram. I know about dual channel ram -granite bay but don't really understand it. Any help would be appreciated. Thank-You in advance.

HiI know this is an old subject, but i need help finding the info. I know there's a utility to flatten creating a bgl file. But i don't know where to find it. Or in case that i wan't to flatten default airports, is it enough to create an exclude area in the scenery cfg?ThanksHenrique

I am now continually getting the following error message upon starting FS2002: Error loading GPS_Engine. The flight plan will not be used.I click OK and FS2k2 runs normally. Is this error message possibly due to my not having a flight plan for my default situation? Anyone have this before? ThanksSteve KCLE

Having put the Radeon 9700pro in my system, I am starting to wonder, just what does Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic filtering do?For example, having AA set at 8 instead of 2 or 4 will do what with the graphics? Anisotropic set to 16, what does this do?

  20. I did a HD reformat, and reinstalled XP again and notice since then, when I am using FS2002 I have throttle problems. What happens is if I go back into windows, like hit the windows key on the keyboard from FS2002 then go back into FS2002 and unpause it the throttle is all mucked up like the engine goes up and down in sound. Meaning it revs up and drops down, revs up drops down, etc. If I press pause, and unpause it this fixes the problem. I never had this problem before, or at least never noticed it before. Has anyone else had this problem, or get the same problem in XP?

Well unless I need to tweak the 9700pro, but when I had the GF4 Ti4600 I was getting 40 fps in LAX default scenery with the default 747-400. After hearing a lot of hipe about the radeon 9700pro on the forum I returned my GF4 TI 4600 for the Radeon 9700pro.. After installing the new catalyst 3.1 drivers I fired up FS2002 and went to LAX with the 747-400...To my suprise my fps is between 18 and 25 with all sliders max...I have to addmit the fs2002 looks great with the radeon 9700pro, I can even fly a night without night scenery enhancement and I can see everything... I scenery looks great there are no stutters but I wish the fps could be better. My new system is a P4 2.8…

Since echoflight has gone payware I did some hunting and found a few good chart sites if anybody is interested:http://164.214.2.62/products/digitalaero/index.htmlThis one is great because it has worldwide coverage...all in PDF though. If you want a regular graphics file you can use the Acrobat viewer to select the entire plate graphic, hit the copy button on the toolbar, then paste into paint and save as a .bmp. This works great since I have to paste into printshop to print on the pre-punched/cut jeppessen paper.http://www.myairplane.com/databases/approach/index.phpI think this one is only USA but it works great as well...same as above, only PDF files but that will do. …

(Others feel free to jump in)I can't seem to get around the following problem: whenever I choose over 32 MB AGP Aperature in Bios, I get "Windows unable to save to Memory" errors. My system: P4 2.8 512 2700 Samsung RAM Radeon 9700 128 3.1 Omega Drivers Windows XP.I do not see any performance loss with FS with AGP@16 MB (infact, I used to have AGP off in DXDIAG).I recently started playing FPS shooters and all seems well there (other than occasional crashing if highest texture quality is choosen in ATI Control Panel).I'm happy to keep things as they are but am worried I've missed something obvious. Thanks in advance.
