If anyone is having the problem where FS2004 quits back to desktop as it shows the splash screen, see here...http://forums.avsim.com/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=127578&page=Basically, FS2004 requires a directory called "Flight Simulator Files" in your My Documents folder. Now, if you haven't changed the default location of your My Documents folder then it appears you are okay, the install will create the required folder for you. However, if you've changed the location of your My Documents folder then it doesn't and FS2004 wont start if the folder isn't there. So, if you haven't got a "Flight Simulator Files" folder in your My Documents then create it and try FS2004 again...

It seems whatever aircraft I choose-the engines taxispeed is so fast-even with the throttles all the way off-the plane won't stand still-when I try and taxi-I have to keep hitting the brakes and I can't follow a straight line--any help from the experts? Thanks! Otherwise I love the program-they seem to have done a good job with it.

Ive been reading that the anti-alasing inside fs2004 should not be checked and insted use a external tweaker or your driver display settings. Now currently I have a GeForce4 MX 400 graphic card, is there a way to set the anti-alasing with this card? If so how do you do it? I don't see anything on my desktop to click for my graphic card. If it can't be done it's not a big deal cause Im getting a new graphic card next week.

Haven't flown FS2002 for a while now, so I forgot how I used to do this. I just got FS2004 last night and can't figure out how to undock panel views (such as GPS) so that I can move them to my second monitor. The "Undock" option when I right click the GPS is grayed out. Do I have to undock the main view too? Only way I could get the window to the second monitor was to uncheck "full screen" on the main window, then move the GPS to the second monitor, then set it back to full screen. Kinda a pain. Thoughts? Thanks :)BTW, I love the new planes and weather affects of FS2004. The runway signs are a BIG help in realism/immersion as well. I had the taxiway signs addons fo…

  8. Hi there,I read a few posts about loading FS2002 aircraft into FS2004. I remember that Microsoft saying that it would be backwards-compatible, as long as the designers followed the SDK. However, some people have mentioned problems with panels, saying that the gauges end up being the wrong size.Well, I just tried loading my own aircraft into FS2004 (...a Socata TB-9 and a Pilatus PC-9), and they worked fine. For the most part, my panels used default gauges, and this leads me to think that any aircraft that uses default panels/gauges will have no problems under FS2004. This was true in both the 2D and 3D panel. I did create a couple custom gauges, and they also show up…

All,I just wanted to inform everyone that Jeppesen SimCharts 2.0 (for FS2002) seems to work fine in FS2004. However, the installer does not know about 2004 and will always install the in-sim viewer module to the 2002 directory. To get it to work in 2004, simply move the file FS2002modulesSimViewJr.dll to Flight Simulator 9modulesSimViewJr.dllI would not be surprised, however, if there are a few procedures that have been updated in SimCharts 3.0 to match what is new or different in 2004. I'll have to ask at the Jeppesen booth at Oshkosh Friday. http://brianc.vip.warped.com/kpwk_sig.gif

I have two things I have been wondering about...1) How are people flying STARS in real-life and in FS? I understand it is normal for ATC to vector you off a STAR before you reach the end, but how soon? I had completed just one leg of a STAR (I just entered the waypionts in my flight plan) before being vectored off it (about 80 miles out). How are people flying this in the sim? Ignore ATC until you are where you think you should be vectored to final like in 2002?2) What is the deal with SDK's? Do they not release one for each part of the sim? I thought I heard they were releasing the atc SDK so can we look forward to improvments here or even some alternate voices wit…

Yeehaa! Bought FS2004 in The Netherlands today (had to drive 100 miles for it, but it was worth it).I was a bit worried though, if the sim would run on my humble system, but my verdict is: GREAT.Oh well, I've only played with it for about an hour, but so far... so good! At 1024x768x32, locked at 20 fps, with most sliders above 'normal'. In a 'fair weather' situation, lots of clouds, nice level of autogen, a steady 20 fps. :-hahTried the 'thunderstorm' theme (yep, uh-oh), but even then a relatively smooth 10-15 fps... Yes, so far I'm impressed! Lightning and turbulance is greatly improved BTW.The sim looks astonishing... I once changed the time from morning to afternoon an…

Ok, here is what you do in nutshell if you are bored with the Landmark, Soar, etc, default airlines...Until we wait for Traffic Tools for FS2004 and if you don't want to loose the default flights to non-towered airports by using your old FS02 traffic file...you can use the default traffic.bgl file from FS2004 and just change the title names to make them work....let me explain further.Basically all you need to do is copy the "title=" name from the default aircraft to your AI aircraft and then change the name of the default aircraft.Note: the ( ) symbols are not these...only for this site...they should be brackets...Things you will need:FS2004AI Aircraft of the same model t…

Well I had my first Crash to Desktop with flight simulator since FS2000 or at least as long as I can remember.Flying the default 737 with default ATC and default Weather had an error with "symmap.dll" its in the modules directory. This is starting to worry me now. FS2002 was so stable without ever crashing and now just a week into FS2004 and already a crash to desktop.I'll write it off as maybe an error somewhere on my part. Next time I'll do a clean boot and try the flight see if it still crashes. If anybody might know what that file does I'd like to know.SeanP4 2.53512 megTI 4400

The big hole I flew by last night enroute DFW-CVG does have a bottom. I took a C-172 out of 2AR6, a little grass strip just west of Hope, AR. Flew toward the big hills to the west, and started circling into the canyon. There is a nice spit of land down there near the "waterfall", and after many circles inside the canyon, made a nice rough field landing on the beach. Someone needs to cut down a few trees and stick an airstrip down there. Field elevation...minus 15193 MSL!! Now THATS a deep canyon!!!Base jumpers paradise too!!! (It's actually a resevoir that MS kinda missed the mesh elevation on...could be a huge tourist attraction though!! World's biggest waterfall, neat l…

This is the first flight sim I've tried and need some advice. Would, like everyone else to have the maximum graphics without frame hits that are to bad. How do you see what fps you are getting? I've owned other games and know some of you experts have best settings and tweaks that will help me out. If you would give a newbie some advice I would greatly appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!P4 300 mhz 512 DDR Ti4600

Ok I will caveat this post with the fact that I am running the press beta copy of 2k4 and YMMV. I have been experimenting with mipmapping and the "shimmering" that folks experience. I dont care what card you own or how fast your system is, If you like crisp textures and little or no mips, than you are going to get shimmering. Its just the way video cards do business. I have used several different cards on 2K4 and 2K2 and it doesn't matter much what you use. Its simple, if you use mipmaps you will see little or no shimmer. Usually its the buildings and trees which are the worst culprits, but depending on your drivers and settings sometimes it can be the terrain also. If yo…

I have an old gameport yoke that's not the best but serves the purpose until I can afford USB. I would like to purchase a set of CH pedals though but not sure whether or not to go with the USB or gameport model. Do I have a choice seeing as the yoke I have is gameport?(USB vs. Gameport device compatibility....driver issue's, etc.?)Thanks
