Without a doubt, FS2k4 is a great sim. however, I don't even know when this new sim can be played as fun as its brother---FS2k2. In FS2k2, I have many add-ons, planes and panels, sceneries and utilities. But most of them does not compatible with fs2k4. That holds me back from playing FS2k4. In fact, many add-on will not be patched or manys are getting into payware for FS2k4. Anyway, this's how i feel, how about you guys? Regards,Tommy Z. HI !For curiosity, I shutted down engines 1&4 at my C-130 Hercules, seconds later, the PFD (primary flight display) is deactivated. Shouldn't it get enough electricity from the remaining engines and even if all engines failed, would not the "windflow" on the propeller blades be sufficient to deliver enough power to have some basic nav (and radio) instruments ? ? How can this be fixed in FS02 (did it change in FSCOF ?) somewhere in the aircraft.cfg ? ?Thank you

First lemme just start off by saying that I love FS 2004 and this post shouldnt discourage anyone from gettin it.With that said, i have a little dilema,First my system specs:Compaz Evo N1000v laptop P4 2.0 ghz512 MB DDR RAMATI Mobility 7500 with 32MB @ 1024x760x32Ok so i started up FS2004 and flew around with it for a while really liking what I saw. I didnt change any default settings at first but noticed it was running a little slow . . . So i began tweeking. I messed with the video card settings and sim settings but things are still kinda slow and I heard a lot of people talking about similar performance from 2k4 that they had with 2k2. So after all my fidgeting, it wa…

An excellent review of the Cessna 172. FINALLY someone pays attention to flying the airplane instead of glorifying doors opening and reflection glittering. While these are nice, one would judge that anyone caught using the default FS2004 Cessna 172 on a regular basis just wants to look, not fly.If Microsoft cannot get the 172 Cessna right how can we trust any of the other default aircraft. FS2002 was repleat with air file changes in an attempt (sometimes in vain) to correct what Microsoft can't, or refuses to correct - the flight model. Unfortunatly, most customers either do not know, or frankly do not care, if the aircraft flies realistically. They go into extended dialo…

Hi:I know that MS is pointing with pride to the clouds in FS2004/FS9/COF as well they should, they are gorgeous. I love them. But --- (here it comes) When using Real Weather; both the "static" and "update every 15 minutes" version, the clouds come out of the earth. I see several posts about that fact and I also see how some people are doubting that that is a bug, or if it actually happening at all.It is happening, and it is ruining every flight I take with FS2004.Yes, (sigh) I have the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro card. I am eagerly awaiting for the smart simmers here to come up with a fix for this aggravating cloud situation.Everything else in FS2004 runs like a champ on my machin…

In FS2002 you could open the kneeboard to the procedure or plane info page and scroll down to an area, say the flap speeds or landing procedure, and closing it wouldn't lose where you left it scrolled to, now it always starts at the top!Is there any way to force it to keep it's last position? Thanks,Chris

After several hours of flying FS2004COF and tweaking every setting available, I think I have finally found the right mix for visuals vs. performance on my system. OK, I feel like a total newbie all of a sudden! I read the tip on flightsim.com on how to find fs9.cfg except I don't seem to have the same pathways. I have "documents and settings" but after that nothing that follows their tip. I tried searching for it but I guess it is a hidden file. Any ideas? ThanksDavid

hi all,for those who are interested Bill Molonys fs2k2 addon scenery for Atlanta (skyline, Turner field and Hartsfield airport) works flawlessly for me in fs2k4. if you still have fs2k2 with Bills scenery successfully installed per Bills instructions, go to the fs2k2 addon scenery folder copy and paste Bills main scenery folder only(Atlanta by Molony)into the fs2k4 addon scenery folder. then follow the steps below. "these are instructions per Peter McCleland at the Flightsim site for installing addon scenery in fs2k4. There has been a change here...Scenery Library is no longer accessable from inside the Sim. You must access it from the Startup screen:- here is the full …

Hi Folks,First of all....... I really like FS9! While it has some teething problems I think it's a great improvement overall especially on my lower end system (Dell PIII, 1 gig, 512 mb ram, Asylum GeForce 4 Ti4200 64 mb). Now on to the water issue. One of my main concerns with FS9 when I first tried it concerned the color and texture of the water. Much too light and unreal. When I flew along the coast of Chicago at dusk the water looked terrible! Here's the simple solution: turn "water effects" off. That's it. Now the color is a reasonable blue.Hope this helps,Howard

Hello!First, let me say that I think FS2004 is a big improvement over FS2002.I do have a question about the clouds. I can use the 3D clouds sometimes and still get OK results for the frame rates and smoothness on my slower PIII 1GHZ system. But to get the best performance, setting the clouds at 2D is still the best option on my system. So, I was wondering if any of you know if I would be able to use a program like FS Sky World, or just the textures from the program, to "update the apperance of the 2D clouds?I like the way that the FS Sky world clouds look in FS2002 and thought they might be a good replacement for the 2D clouds in FS2004.Or is this not an option due to the …

Overall I think FS2004 is an improvement over FS2002 and am satisified but I have an wierd problem with the frame rate. For example, I take off from DFW at 26 fps on the runway and during the approach to DFW inline with the runway I get around 12 fps, but here's the wierd part, I restart a flight from DFW and slew for an approach where I had only 12 fps but this time it's 20 fps. Landing on the same runway and same display settings as when I had 12 fps. Another example is slewing around Los Angeles. I get the same frame rate problem when slewing around Los Angeles and Long Beach. Try this, slew from LAX then to downtown LA then slew to the south of Long Beach Airport…

I just got the new FS2004 and am somewhat dissapointed in the frame rates I am getting versus FS2002. My machine is a PIII 1000mhz (100mhz bus) and the video card is an old original GeForce 32mb. Any suggestions and what are the key commands to see the frame rates. Thanks

CoF has the "eyecandy" I guess... but when I look at the overall picture right now I'm going back to 2002 all the time...Why? Simple all my good addon purchases work flawlessly right now... until those are working (if they ever will) I'll probably be spending more time on the older version... it really only is an IFR sim for me to keep the skills up for the real world anyways... Its always nice having the latest and greatest, but sometimes the latest isn't always initially the greatest! (Just my opinion, and I am sure that in time the developers out there will make COF as good as 2002 was once the SDKs come out and fixes for products are issued)Anyways, both sims are inst…

This may be basic to some of you, but I've been tweaking and trying new things for almost a week now and have finally made probably the single best discovery so far in FS2004: If you set settings reasonable for your computer setup ( I use the defaults for my machine - with a few MINOR adjustments), and then turn OFF the FPS indicator, this sim really does seem smooth. Sure, I can tell an occasional slowdown (I average between 12-18 fps ---10fps in the major thunderstorm theme at Seattle Tacoma), but just turning off that stupid display makes it "seem" smoother. For all those who haven't tried this yet, I highly recommend it, as it has greatly enhanced my enjoyment of an a…

OK, I don't want to discuss the price, whether it should be freeware, bla bla bla ;-)What I would like to know is how to fix the spot plane view... It completely changes how the game displays your plane in spot plane view. It's entirely too much of a wide angle view... Is there a way to correct this? I figured you could increase your distance from the plane by scrolling out and it does, but it's still the same relative angle.... I'm probably not explaining this very well so here's a pic. Don't get me wrong I think it's a kool angle but not all the time, it distorts the plane to much...Any ideas?http://forums.avsim.com/user_files/26968.jpg
