My system is-AMD 2400xpGF4 TI4600 28mbDX9b512mb DDR ramAudigy 2All the latest drivers.I run FS2002 pretty well with the FPS locked at 20. I install the very excellent EDDW2K21.zip by Oliver Pabst. I can land at about 15fps, and never go below 10 using the whole airport and it's incredible facilities. I then go to Bham_2K2.zip by John Walker( no offence John, you did an excellent job) but, on approach, my fps go down to a jerky, unacceptable 6/7 fps. Now, my question is, if my system wont run a bit of extra scenery, is it worth me spending money on FS2004?, or should I lash out more dough on a 5gig cpu? Well,OK, I know my system is'nt cutting edge, but jeesh, just what do…

Does anyone know how to make the "FS2000" style nav lights on some of the FSPainter AI aircraft smaller? Is it possible to use a "scalar" command in the FS9.cfg file like we have for runway lights? Is it possible to remove the lights from the .mdl file in GMAX? Does anyone know what textures are used for these lights?I know aircraft modelers are keen to have flexing wings, but I really wish there was some more functional way of dealing with the lights. Either you get these awful

I have recently detected a water rendering problem that seems to exhibit itself only at dawn, and then only at certain times during this period, most commonly during the middle of the time frame. It occurs with the default water textures as well as with any of the numerous add-on textures that are available. The water appears in a patchy or checkerboard pattern of light and dark hues. This has nothing to do with shadows, etc. It just seems that rectangular blocks of water are a different color. I first noticed this problem over San Francisco Bay and then around Key West, FL.I found an earlier post indicating that someone else who had this problem had fixed it by changing …

After unsuccesfully trying to install Samuli's MD-80 panel I lost all 2d panels in my FS2004 installation. I just get blank areas where the panel is supposed to appear. Nothing else is affected, and it occurs only in my FS2004 install, not my FS2002 installation, so I doubt it is a driver problem.Any suggestions on how I can get the panels back? I'd like to avoid deleting and reinstalling FS2004. Last but not least, any suggestions for MD-80 panels other than Samuli's?GeForce FX9000, non-ultra and the 44.03 drivers. Thanks

To all interested parties,The RealAir Simulations SF260 update offer will close at 1.am GMT this Saturday December 6th. The update has been open to customers for two weeks and we have contacted every known customer. Those customers who didn't receive an update notice will have either changed their e-mail address or installed an e-mail blocker, and have had two weeks to get in touch with us, as clearly invited to do so on our website and at major forums. We have responded to each and every request in person - if that reply did not get through then the ONLY reason is because again that customer will have returned our e-mail as undelivered due an e-mail block. We therefore hav…

Hi,I just finished reading the excellent review "Bear" wrote on the recently released Super Decathlon.According to Bear, Rob "wizard" Young has managed to solve the adverse yaw problem that plagued all the MS (and third-party add-ons) aircraft.Personally, I always considered the adverse yaw issue as one of FS2002/2004's greatest flaws.Microsoft somehow decided to link the adverse yaw to the bank angle instead of coupling it to the ailerons deflection. This caused a totally unrealistic skid/slip behavior in turns, with a need to constantly apply rudder even after neutralizing the ailerons (Have I said unrealistic already ?). If Bear is right, this is without a doubt a major…

In flying the new PSS A340, the first time I noticed my problem was in a FMC controlled flight. When I reached my destination which was a SimFlyers airport, I discovered that I was going to have to make a backcouse, not Glide Slope approach (a common occurance at some SimFlight runways) and found that I could not find a way to disengage the autopilot. It held the present heading and my yoke and foot pedals had no effect (As is correct as I understand when the A340 Autopilot is engaged.) No combination of actions on my part would disengage the autopilot. At first, I thought this problem was unique to FMC applications.Yesterday, I was flying with Autopilot control of the A34…

With the closing of the Navdata site surely there is a way for the "community" to take over this resource. I certainly understand Richard Stefan's reasons for closing but that does not mean this resouce needs to end. Perhaps Avsim or some of the larger VA's can take over the programs, files, etc. and keep producing this data for all of us to use and enjoy. Mark.

Sirs,I would like to know what hardware I should upgrade to increase the frame rates and fluidity of flightsim 2004 most cost effectively. My current system is;AN7N8X DeluxeAMD XP2400+ (2.00 GHz)512MB of RAMASUS FX5800I think my current setup is pretty good but I'm not 100% happy with how flightsim runs at the moment. To get smoothness my sliders are all mid settings, when I run into addon scenery and weather with a complex aircraft the sim stutters. Any advice taken onboard.Paul

Hey all,I'm looking for a new video card for my PC upgrading from a GeForce4 MX420. I'm looking at the ATI Radeon 9000,9200,and 9600 series. I decided I don't want to spend the $$$ on the 9800 now... Anybody who has any of those have any recommendations on one best for FS? I definitely want to be able to see the new water effects in FS9 and have decent FPS. Any opinions please reply! Thanks!MarcMarc Gibson

Hello all,I bought a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick today. So far, I'm very pleased with it, but I do have a few FS related questions. Is it possible to "feel" the engine? When I'm flying say.. a Cessna or the B206, I feel nothing. Not a single vibration. I would love to feel my engine / rotor vibrating when I increase or decrease throttle or collective. I don't feel any kicking / swaying / vibrating when flying in wind. Is this normal? Am I supposed to feel anything? How do I increase the strength of the effects? Like a bigger kick on landing.. or maybe reduce the amount of bucking when flying some aircraft.I noticed the stick bucking a bit - moving forward…

Hi,in case you missed it (because there is a continuous flow of news on the front page of Avsim) Steve "Bear" Cartwright wrote an excellent review on the RealAir Decathlon.http://www.avsim.com/pages/1203/decathlon/decathlon.htmPersonnally I share most of the ideas and opinions Steve expressed about this outstanding Decathlon.

I installed Sean Wolford's new AFCAD file for KHEF but can't get it to work properly. I couldn't find your email, Sean....can someone help?I installed the AF2_KHEF bgl in the fs9 Addon Scenery/Scenery folder just as I had been doing with all of my Ultimate Traffic .bgl files. Airport parking places are updated but I have no traffic there. In checking the file library to try to find a way to contact Sean, I noted that a revised file is now up.....but the comments say that AFCAD 2.11 is required to install. Is there something else I need to do other than unzip to a temporary folder and drag the AF2_KHEF bgl file into the Addon Scenery/Scenery folder? Thanks in advance. I …

When using FS2002, the Golden Eagle was my favourite airplane to fly with. It was a very nice plane, with some very good and special features and with an excellent flight model. I really wonder what is preventing Flight One Software for providing a patch to make the Golden Eagle fly in FS9. I am convinced that they would please a lot of people and gain some extra -"free of charge"- publicity. They promised already some months ago an update to FS9 on their website, but I have the impression that it remains a promise - unfortunately.Juul Tango

Today I got my new computer and I have been using FS2004 for most of the day, it runs great! I have all sliders maxed out and frames rates have not dropped below 30 even at Fly Tampa's Miami scenery it's beautiful!I do have a question about the new AFCAD though, where do you put the files? If it's for a downloaded scenery it goes into that scenery sub folder right? and if it is for a default airport it goes directly into the addon scenery folder? Then just start FS9 and the AFCAD will take effect right?I have the Radeon 9800 pro but Im still seeing alittle jagged edges, what do I have to adjust to get rid of those edges? Also I have a question for the guys who put together…
