Hi found this very interesting thread on another site. It deals with the ability to fly holding patterns while under ATC control on an IFR flight plan...rather than being forced to merely fly vectors to final.I, for one, didn't know this was possible without add-on software. Given the responses to the thread, a lot of others aren't aware either so I have pasted the thread here.___________________________________________________________________As stated earlier you must have knowledge of "how to" decline the default vectors to final that ATC issues and then request a Transistion Approach. All Approaches (not missed approach) that have a Holding Pattern are in this area of …

I already have the FSD Seneca with Jetline 2 RXP gauges. How does this compare to the DF Baron 58 RXP version? Except the GPS which I'm aware of. I understand they are fairly similary or? Is it well spent money to get the DF Baron or might I as well use the Seneca since it's so similar to the Baron?

Thought I post this, since I'm often a little puzzled, especially the more I practise landings on medium airports with traditional commercial planes.Let's take for instance GCRR (Lanzarote) or the probably better known KMDW (Midway). Both have long enough runways to let me get even a mid-weighted 747 in the air.So, the takeoffs are not the problem here (though I admit that I might be flying unrealistically at times, when I have the impression the main gear would hit that fence in the next couple of seconds during roration ;-) ). It's the landings which make me kind of uncertain and think I wouldn't probably try this in real life:I foremost need to say that for the fun of i…

How many people know about this really, really excellent web site?http://flightaware.com/Shows air traffic in real time for free in the USA. Shows by airport, specific airplanes, flights etc. For me its awesome because now I can just pick out a real flight plan and create it in FS and go flying by company routes or whatever...from a C172 to a B772!Eric

For those of you who have never had the fantastic opportunity to visit the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in central eastern New York State, go get Joe Binka's recently released scenery addon of this incredible time machine back to the WW1 era.For those that have been there, you will feel like you just came away from a visit. Joe has done a remarkable job in duplicating this airstrip and accompaning scenery objects which are replicated to the original layout of this most marvelous place. As Joe mentions in his readme file, FS9 does not allow for rolling airstrips for which ORA has a definite valley in the middle. Other than that, ORA has been faithfully reproduced to the limits …

Is anyone experiencing erroneous weather when downloading weather in FS2004? I just landed in Atlantic City and it was still snowing with wind from 011 at 11 visibility 1 mile. Weather.com reports partly cloudy wind NW at 15 visibility 1 mile. Very unusual to see downloaded weather off this much. Thanks!

I have a hangar full of beautiful GA airplanes... Cessnas, Pipers, Beechcraft... but nobody seems to have tackled any of the Mooney airplanes. Why? Would LOVE to see a sleek mooney airframe get the Dreamfleet/PMDG/Realair treatment.Eric

Hi all.I am having a very annoying problem. When I fly over northern Scandinavia, mostly Finland and Sweden, suddenly the screen goes black for a few seconds, then the "MSFS has detected a fault and shuts down" message appears, and then desktop! :-(If I then start up again, move the plane to the "crash site", and load the same flightplan again, I can make the rest of the flight without any crashes.I can

I bought the lite version of this plane because I didn't think I needed the Reality XP gauges. Now, after reading the review on the front page of AVSIM, I'm wondering if I should have bought the full version.WHY? My Baron seems to have serious FPS hits when I'm in panel mode.Would the Reality Gauges have made this a smoother frame product?I just want to know if there's a difference in either version when it comes to what we all want from this hobby....smooth flight that feels real. The reviewer gave this plane 5 stars.

I have had a pretty serious problem with FS9 for some time. Initially I thought it was connected to the seasonal CTD problem, but I have installed the patch etc. and it still persists. Basically, the problem is CTD, which tend to happen at or near busy airports, whether on the ground or in the air. The offending module seems to be ntll.dll.I think the problem is actually AI-based. I have Ultimate Traffic installed but have assigned repaints to the flights without assigned models, which means that I now have very few "missing" flights- maqking for very busy airports.Whenever I go near a big airport now, I am prone to an instant CTD. The only other reason I can think of is …

Many MD80 threads, what about one more :An interesting review by Stellan Hilmerby, creator of the gorgeous Dc-9 panel and former MD80 Captain.http://www.hilmerby.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=422Actually confirms my thoughts. The Maddog is "talked bad" because of the missing LAGO support. Somewhat understandable, but the plane itself IS excellent.Mike

The EFBv1 Electronic Flight Bag, by SimFlyer, looks pretty promising as an all-round kind of guage. See http://www.simflyer.net/efbv1.html Has anyone tried this out yet? What are the opinions out there on this? The moving map mode looks interesting, but I'm just wondering if a person has to download all kinds of maps in order to make this work. And, of course, the framerate would be necessary to look into. Please let me know if you have given this a try. Thanks!

Hi all, just a quick question, why does the SGA DC-10-30 spoliers sometimes extend sharply and not smooth like all the rest of my 200+airliners? It somestimes extends and retracts normaly nice and smooth and sometimes it just extends and retracts instantly like there is no hydrolic fluid. Thanks,Bill

There's a nice Saab 2000 panel in the library here at AVSIM, but no where can I find a "suitable" Saab 2000 anywhere. Those that exist are not up to the quality standards we've all become accustomed to. I love Saabs. Wouldn't it be fine to have a 340 and 2000 with great panels, sounds, etc. I hope some talented designer who reads this is working on them. I'll gladly pay for superb models.

I enjoy tinkering and adjusting stuff in my simulator but I couldn't help but to laugh when I saw an addon for a recent commercial shake n' bake scenery creation software. It listed among many things a chainsaw (?!). You gotta ask yourself what kind of simmer, one who takes his aviation interest seriously anyway, would want with scenery objects that do not even remotely have bearing on aviation.I think it is because of stuff like this that our spouses, girlfriends etc won't fully respect our hobby, because the above mentioned things are toys in the purest sense. I would say it is very much like a kid's doll house where you can move around furniture and little figurines an…

A few years back I found a upgrade texture set for the night terrain lighting. I recently reinstalled the sim and Im trying to rebuild it carefully and not go to crazy with the add-ons and such. Im doing pretty well and Im keeping a lot of default stuff as it seems a lot of the add-ons I can live without. Im looking in particular for a set of night terrain textures which add some lights in the "dead areas" of flight sim. Even with added LC it improved things a good bit. I am curious if anyone can steer me in the proper direction. I'm not sure but I think it was FS Skyworld that had some enhancement packages, but I thought that was just the color of the existing lights. An…

For those of you who have visited it (and those who have yet to) Old Rhienbeck (New York) is a unique and favorite museum of antique airplanes from really the very earliest era of aviation. Joe's scenery really is beautifully done - many thanks for this valuable contribution. Thank you Joe!
