Hi All,Although I could not attend the last conference, I want to publicly thank Avsim for organizing it.I hope to attend the next one, and after seeing the pictures, it sure looks like everyone had a great time.To be able to put together the vendors, the simmers, the locations, and the events takes quite a bit of effort and time that I as a member here appreciate.Several members took Photo's which are located at the following Links:Wade: http://community.webshots.com/album/93969328snFReRCameron: http://www.xplanefreeware.net/~cameron/avsim/Kenneth: http://www.avsim.com/pages/1003/confreport/pics_others/kw/Bob: http://www.avsim.com/pages/1003/confreport/pics_others/b…

While I was looking at pictures of the beautiful Saab 2000, I came acorss this picture, http://www.airliners.net/open.file/296497/L/ , and this question, while kind of bad minded, popped into my mind...Has a propeller ever come of the "spinner" (not sure what you call it) and sliced an aircraft apart, mid-air or on the ground? I've recalled the one where a prop flew off a prop plane and sliced and diced a cessna (I believe it was), some stories about it include a jealous boyfriend with his chainsaw- but we all know the truth now :)Sorry if this question is not "proper" for you or this forum- I though it would be something interesting, while sad, to read about. But then ag…

What altitude should I pick when I am flight planning. I know the East/West Odd/Even and VFR +500 rules. That still leaves a lot of options.I am looking for any rules of thumb, tables, formulas, etc. Do any of the flight planning software help in determining what altitude to fly at?I can think of a couple of factors that would affect altitude decisions, such as length of flight, type of aircraft, and weather conditions. But how do you combine these factors into a altitude for a flight plan. Also what are the rules/guidlines for maximum altitude in an unpreasurized airplane, i.e. no oxygen.

I normally plan my flight (not airliner) on FSNav up to some fix point in the vicinity of the airport in reach of tower radio, then I pause and plan my arrival knowing the runway in use.Pausing here isn't realistic, unless one has a stack of pre-printed arrival,STAR etc. charts at hand covering all eventualities.Without pausing,in real time,it may become frantic. What I would like to know is whether in the real world it's possible for a pilot to know much earlier (100-200 miles)by other means (some radio link or otherwise)at least which runway is in use in order to calmly plan the arrival.Thanks.Carlo Ferrando

Hi,Just thought I should drop a note and introduce myself. I dscovered Orbiter last week and it's just AMAZING!Steep learning curve but much fun and very rewarding. Trying to figure out how to make an intercept with the ISS from launch. I got the launchg phase alright. I have some questions left about OMS2 burns and how to get the shuttle up to the right orbit, but I'll get there. Figured out and succeeded on the orbital plane alignment. Now to the rest of the phases. This is so much fun! :-) I'm amazed I haven't discovered ORBITER before!Cheers,

Hi all.I was at my local airport today (NZWN), and noticed the small prop planes (Beech1900)would turn into the (strong) wind whilst awaiting take-off clearance. The larger ones (Saab340) would not.Can someone tell me why the smaller planes need to do this? Obviously whatever the reason, it doesn't impact on larger propeller planes. The turns weren't small, they were at least 90degrees.CheersAllblack

Hopefully, the attached picture is clear enough to see. I set up an ellipitcal orbit to swing past Jupiter. Using the Synch Orbit MFD, I had the times until "Intersect 1" very close. I thought this would bring the ship and Jupiter together in a few million seconds. If I'm reading the MFD correctly, both should be together in about 22 million seconds, but the graphic clearly shows Jupiter has already gone past this point. What am I reading wrong?

Not sure what is in AVSIMs coffee but...Early this morning I posted some pics of my many years long in the making Rochester scenery in the screenshot forum and along with only great response it just became locked after I posted a fifth pic, I was scolded by (unnamed) mod that I had exceeded the 125k per pic limit. With no chance to voice a reply I then posted a response here in quotes:"XXX,Sorry, I never gave the 125K rule any thought my bad! A week or so ago in the "Herc landing on an Aircraft Carrier" discussion, I mentioned that there had been a special program in 1979 to get a Herc to land and take off from a soccer field. A collegue of mine who is a 4,000 hour C130 pilot (yes, 4,000 hours!), filled in the details for me, and pointed out a website or two that I thought everyone might be interested in. Check these out and the photos of the vertical thrusters on the second site - that has to be a pucker factor of at least 10!!!!:http://www.spectrumwd.com/c130/articles/Credible_Sport.htmhttp://home.earthlink.net/~quade/crediblesport.htmlhttp://www.geocities.com/Pentagon/Quarters...assaultzone.htmSearch Google…

In one of the Dragonfly scenarios (Dragonfly powered up), the electricity is on and you can see (and change) which docking ports are active. The VAWS is also on. In the other scenarios, they are off and I'm guessing the designers want you to manually switch on the power. Does anybody have the shortcut to this? I've looked at the checklist and just can't follow it. I can get the volts up, but the amps stay down. Too many switches. Is there a way to make the Dragonfly fully operative with a quick "On" button, or can someone run down the steps in simple, easy steps?I did cheat and copy the parameters from "Powered Up" into "Station Building" and it's a lot of fun to take eve…
