Just wandering how many simmer out there who can drive are guilty of obeying speed restrictions like under 250KIAS under 10,000 feet and under 200KIAS under a Class B shelf in the flight sim religiously and feel that you are a bad/poor pilot when you exceed those limits but yet have no problem in realy life exceeding the max speed limit on the real road ways?I know I am but the funny thing is when I'm running late in life I drive faster the whole trip but in the sim I still obey the speed restrictions and hope for a good tail wind!NP

Hi :) The atmospheric modelling is much better now!! I can actually land the shuttle :-eek :-eek!! In the previous version, the roll rate was so slow that landing was a matter of luck rather than skill!! :-lolhttp://album.atomic-systems.com/showPic.php/23664/banner.jpg

I noticed on a recent trip to KLAX that BA were flying several flights (presumably from the UK?) using B744 equipment. Given the economies of flying the B777, and the fact that the routing is easily within the endurance of a B777, why does anyone suppose they are flying the older equipment? It could be the larger pax capacity of the B744, or the unavailability of the 777's being deployed elsewhere, but other than those reasons wouldn't the 744 be much more costly to run? Thanks,Bruce.

I've just purchased the Concorde twin DVD set from www.itvv.com.I have to say this DVD goes into amazing detail and is possibly the best (only?) document(ary) ever created of a working crew on Concorde.Personally, before buying the DVD, I only had a passing interest in the aircraft, but thought I'd get the DVD set while it was available due the the great bird's retirement. I'm glad I did. This DVD covers everything!, every system,panel,switch..you name it.The crew 'love' their 'charge', especially the flight engineer who, a real propeller-head, (and I mean that in the nicest way), who is keen to explain every nook and cranny of the Concorde's systems. It's quite something …

http://library.avsim.net/orbiter/Just so you guys know, you're still mirroring the previous version. Since M6 can't seem to handle the load of distribution, there are far few mirror sites now to get it.You may want to update it to the latest version. :)- Jimhttp://orbiterforum.moonport.org

What a weekend. Our family had a great weekend. Knowing that we just moved to California in June of this year, not many people knew me in our youngest son's Cub Scout pack. I serve on the committee as Treasurer of my older son's Boy Scout Troop, but nothing in the Cub Scout Pack.Well that changed recently. I had offered back in August to help out with the pinewood derby. Let's just say I know too much about it. Anyway, I find out at the October Pack meeting that there is no Graphite allowed. Now anyone who knows anything about pinewood derby knows graphite is an integral part in making your car go to the end of the track Vs. stopping 3/4 of the way down. The rules insi…

Hi all,I was trying to fly an ISS resupply mission in Endeavour last night. I put the MPLM in the cargo bay but I must be missing something. It was definately in the cargo bay on the ground, but when I arrived in orbit I discovered that the MPLM still had a status of "Landed Earth". In other words, it did not blast off with the shuttle. :)I've put my scenerio file below. Hopefully someone will be able to spot what I am missing. Again this is for the version 3.1 shuttles in the new build of Orbiter. Thanks for any help that you can offer.-ShaunBEGIN_DESCNight launch for an ISS Resupply mission.END_DESCBEGIN_ENVIRONMENT System Sol Date MJD 52954.9620END_ENVIRONMENT…

I recently returned from a trip to Melbourne Australia, flying UA on a B744 (UA 815/816). As usual, ATC comms was available on channel 9, whenever those flight attendants weren't talking. :)On arrival into KLAX from YSSY, I heard our aircraft talking to SoCal Approach, and requesting permission to do an autoland. When we were turned over to Tower, APP said that they had notified Tower of our request, although I never heard it mentioned again on the radio. Is this normal procedure to request an auto-land from ATC, maybe only in the US or anywhere? Are there greater in-trail seperations required for an auto-land, besides those applying to a "heavy"?I decided to note the…

Is there a way to add to Orbiter's star database? Or is there already a star addon for Orbiter? I really like the abundance of stars in Celestia and would like to have something similar in Orbiter, if there's a way to do it.Peter http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/PeterR.gifBFU Forums ModeratorRenegade/Seawolf Design Group (RSDG)

http://bfu.avsim.net/sigpics/logo75t.gifBush Flying Unlimited"At home in the wild"Looking for adventure? Both pilots up front fall ill... Flt Attendants mull about quietly, descreetly asking if there's any pilots onboard....Since this scenario's been pulled up a couple of times before in the forums somewhere before, now you can see if you have the "right" stuff too.Set it up for autoflight and autoland, hardcore heavy iron simmers might shout...For those of you who live in the Southern California area, you can book some time in FAA approved Class C and Class D flight simulators run by Boeing's Long Beach flight training facility, Alteon Corporation. Alteon sells 30 minutes blocks of time in B717, B737, MD80, MD-11 full motion simulators. I flew in the MD-11 one.Although I…

I'm living in Innsbruck/Austria (LOWI) which is in central Europe, less than 200 km straight line from the Mediterranean Sea. Last week we had here some Ausrora Borealis during a couple of nights. They say, this happens once every 30 years in our region. That's still surprising for me as I always thought this phenomenon is restricted to more northern (and southern?) regions.I just wanted to share this here as it is weather related and weather is important for aviation.Wolfgang

I've always been interested in space though this interest has been limited to the Discovery channel and science mags...I've played some space games like X - Beyond the Frontier and Freelancer, and while they are fun as games, they are very unrealistic, so I have been looking for something a bit more challenging.I saw Orbiter mentioned on the AVSim site some time ago and decided to download the sim today. Took a while because I'm on dialup, but after a few hours I had the needed base package and textures, plus the high res+super high res earth. I'll download the other texture packs later.Orbiter installed and started with no problems at all. There are a lot of posts about …

This evening, I was listening to my scanner and I heard UNITED flight 962 (Washingon DC to Munich) call in a problem. I was listening on the dispatch channel, presumably the one used by United Airlines to talk to it's ground dispatchers. (Monitored on 129.400 from Warwick, RI)It started with a fuel imbalance problem, first noticed over the Putnam (PUT) VOR. The FUEL CONFIG light was illuminated. They cycled the fuel pumps, and a few minutes later reported all was normal with the flows. For a while, they thought they had a fuel leak. After they reported all was set, they asked the dispatcher if there were any ETOPS concerns. I could not hear the dispatchers comments through…
