Yep, seems that NASA currently has no plan for returning the Boeing Starliner capsule to Earth. With multiple helium leaks, there is concern that the capsule may not be safe to return the two crew members to Earth, so they may be hitching a ride on another platform. So is this where we now start saying, "if it's Boeing, it's going one way"? https://nypost.com/2024/07/25/us-news/astronauts-stuck-in-space-for-49-days-by-malfunctioning-boeing-spacecraft-cant-return-home-for-weeks/

This will be an interesting mission. Earth orbit altitude record. First commercial spacewalk. Test new spacesuit. New comms system (laser based Starlink) Science experiments. They will pass through the South Atlantic Anomoly (Inner Van Allen Belt)

How long before we see this in the Olympics? Interesting that they use a short-stick competition model for contests. Probably for the following reasons: 1. The traditional long-stick hobby horse has a higher coefficient of drag and is unsuitable for competition. 2. The first few competitions that used long-stick models caused a high proportion of groin injuries during jumps.

When I'm 'flying' I use an FM radio to monitor real world ATC. Sometimes the intersection of sim and real life can be very interesting.

This may engender some debate, but I think it could make for an interesting discussion as long as participants stick to the specific topic and don't start feverish rants about certain banned subjects. We were driving through the southwest USA the past few days and saw several massive solar power plants. I though to myself how great it was that we were using essentially barren, unused land for something so productive, and doing it in an area that is ideal for solar power as it receives 300+ days of sun a year. I decided to look into where other solar plants were located and came across an article about the Sunnica solar plant in the southeastern UK. A lot of lo…

This was unusual enough to share with folks here. A small helicopter had to make an emergency landing in the middle of the High Speed Lane of one of the very busy freeways close to LAX a few days ago. A rotator from Pepe's Towing was dispatched by CHP to help remove the helicopter quickly. I've been following YouTube videos about this company for many months as I find them fascinating!

  14. Could someone please explain why an ILS for a runway would require a Back Course option when the other end also has an ILS? I thought it would only be appropriate where only one end has an ILS.

Before the latest avsim site makeover I used to drop into various forums then when done for the day mark that forum as READ. Then check you another forum and do the same. The site let you mark all posts DOWNWARDS without affecting other forums /threads. This option seems to have disappeared from top of page and been replaced with the (imo) much inferior mark SITE read only found in top right menu drop down. Am I missing something or is this a permanent downgrade? I now have the entire site marked as READ which is not what I wanted to do.

  16. Hi, Regularly it takes about 20-30sec before an AVSIM page is loading, or no connection at all (gateway timeout). I have a 1gbit fiber connection (Netherlands) and 99.9% of the other websites I visited, load in a few milliseconds. I don't have a clue why AVSIM is responding so slowly. Am I the only one or do others experience the same issues? Egbert

I've often wondered why this hasn't been implemented. Seems that engine technology and the capabilities of modern composite materials will make it a reality. https://www.radianaerospace.com/ Zooms down a 2 mile track to mach 0.7 then it fires its own engines and launches to low Earth orbit

Shalom and greetings all my pals, I am officially very word not allowed. I am sure all of you recall Photobucket's cancellation of free service years ago which forced flights simmers to switch to other image hosting sites for screenshots. I switched to IMGBB website for my screenshots. Now IMGBB stops hosting screenshots and blanks all my past screenshots. Other people report "service not available" so I have to look for other image hosting site. Experts say the words "If you’re seeing “service unavailable,” it’s coming from ImgBB, not anything under your control. That’s another reason not to use image hosting services like ImgBB on a live site. You h…

  22. Well, some of you folks might know of him, but I certainly did not! It is because of this that I decided to share this historical tid-bit here: This WW2 pilot flew his tiny Piper L4 Cub Grasshopper artillery spotting plane during World War II and destroyed six German Tiger tanks! But who was he and how did he do it?

  23. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2599450/EarthKart_Google_Maps_Driving_Simulator/ You can fly, drive, hover with a copter etc. only 20 bucks. Its full of bugs, but the potential is there. I was hovering around Spanish coast from Malaga to north, it was so fun. Everyplace, that is 3d in google, is available in the game and more. There is even a jet. So fun and interesting to see places even on the street level. Happy gaming Tero
