The honorable staff and my dearest simmers, Warbirds. What's the chance of creating a warbird enthusiasts' sub forum? There's several dedicated warbird forums out there, but AVSIM is special, it will not be the same. Thank You

Gentlemen: Prior to the disk controller failure of a week or so ago, I experienced what I thought were very fast download speeds of files from the Avsim library. Since that incident, subsequent downloads are noticeably slower. I don't have any quantitative data of measurement. Just my two eyes and a rapidly aging cranium. I voiced my concern to a long time respected fellow simmer and asked for his input. He concurred with my observation. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this and is this a result of new equipment that was needed to fix the controller failure? Thanks Best regards, Chris Tower

Happy new year to you all! I've just had a look at the member reviews section, thinking it could be useful when looking for an unspecified product to fill a gap - say I had cash to spare for one new addon but hadn't decided what - but find I can't browse the entire review database. The links are there and clickable: but don't turn anything up: Am I doing something wrong, or is the database intended only for specific searches? Cheers, Dave

Seems the member start dates are now missing from the member tag on their posts. Not sure if it was deliberate or not.

The avsim front page looks very compressed when viewed on a smartphone screen. The two sidebars appear ok but the two central columns are very narrow and hard to read. It's odd that the main content suffers at the expense of the sidebars. For some reason the page cannot be zoomed or scrolled laterally, either of which would solve the problem. Rotating to landscape view makes little difference, the sidebars still dominate. I'm currently using Safari on an iPhone 5s but there were similar zoom and scroll problems with avsim when I used Dolphin on an android phone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi I'm a long, long time user of AVSIM. I've had an account for the library in some shape or form for the past 10 years and predominantly lurk on the forums. It's very rare I'll write a complaint but in this instance I feel compelled. I've just read this thread: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/429076-is-here-any-fsx-programmer-who-makes-my-b747-wheels-like-this/page-3 and have to express my disgust at the cynical, unhelpful and down-right outrageous way in which the OP was treated by all, including the head of this forum. I think it was absolutely the opposite of how a community such as this should be approaching new members, especially when there are such concerns ove…

Hi all, I was just reading through the thread on PMDG's announcement regarding their proposal's to include P3D in their licence arrangements in the future, mmmmm I thought very interesting news in this hobby of our's. Then I started to scroll down and read the comments and the first dozen or so were constructive questions etc, until we got down to the "Fsx is a pile of rubbish, at last I can buy PMDG for P3D now". This is the kind of nastiness that seems to be creeping into the forums here. The PMDG forums before the 777 was released being a typical example of me me me me when will I get it, etc...............Well the simple answer is when developer decides to rel…

When I vote a simple 'Like' to a post it's now "You Nailed That Bucko" like this is 'Happy Days'. If something is informative it's saying, "If that was anymore informative, you'd be a POH". A once very useful feature has become a joke thanks to those who've chosen to get too hot in the head about it. I like the feature but some form of sanity has to be in place as to the meaning of one's vote. It was nice the way it was to mark , "Like", "Agree", and "Useful" to a post. Some disagreed with a post and instead of a yelling match voted and moved on.

It is a shame that the AVSIM forums have turned into such a site for trolls. It used to be a place where people shared problems and found solutions, where people could chat about flying and simming, however in recent times it has become a place where bored people just sit and troll as many sections as possible. Simple questions cannot be asked without "read the manual" and "search". Sometime the search does not find the specific question, sometimes the information in the manual is too hard to understand for the beginner (remember that not all the people on the forum have been simming for years, some are newbies). Then you have the people who just want to argue, yo…

One of the first things I noticed when I came back to flight simming after nigh on three years, was that people didn't seem to have signatures anymore, at least not like they used to. Is this a matter of fashion, or were rules changed? Personally, I enjoyed the expression of personality, and using my meager graphics skills in putting together something about me, and what I liked. (Now sing the topic title... you know the tune, don't you?)

Afternoon Folks, I'm going to vent a little here, something I rarely do online. And for the record, this is not directed at Avsim's forums per se. I was browsing through a support forum for a certain Kingair just now, reading a thread about memory management. It was a rather lengthy thread that was interesting until about 2/3 down when it suddenly devolved into yet another discussion about the recent global texture release by a southern hemisphere company. It was slightly shocking to see a discussion about an add on plane suddenly turn into how some companies are taking over your sim, etc., etc., etc. Please, please, please everyone, can't we stop this? By no…

Today a discussion about an addon that was currently on sale turned into a discussion about the forum rules, in particular about the part about posting sales anywhere else than in the bargain basement. Obviously it is not allowed to post a vendor's name, link the that vendor's site or even mentioning the price (but not actually noting that the addons is on sale in general), but this rule seems not to be clear to everybody. I found myself in surprise when I read Jim's (firehawk44) post about this being forbidden. I have then tried to find where this rule is actually posted, but have not found it. The only reference I found is Tom Allensworth's post pinned on top of the FS…

Hi, I understand that improvements are being made to Avsim, but why was the Bargain Hunter's shack removed? It was much easier for developers (Such as Flight1) to post their specials in a forum, as it was easier also for us simmers to find the occasional discounts. If I remember correctly, this was done before, but the forum was just recreated. Why do this again given that it had already failed the first time? Thanks for any info,

I'll start by saying I always considered myself a friend of Avsim. I've attended and enjoyed several conferences, including making presentations. I've sat in on beer-n-bull sessions with Tom and the staff. I have been a contributor on the forums. Files from my 11-year history as an FS developer can be found in the library here. So when I decided to break away from a certain southern hemisphere developer and start my own scenery brand, one of the first news outlets I targeted with my press release was, of course, this one. Look, I know that certain people I've been associated with in the past have ruffled some feathers here. As near as I can recall, however, I've never…

Hi, About 10 hours ago I was chocked when reading a post by Stephen Wilcox, SpiritFlyer, where he announced that he had resigned from the AVSIM board of directors and as moderator. Now the post seems to be gone. I hope that it's because Stephen regretted his decision, but I'm still a little worried. Any information would be very much appreciated. I tried to reach Stepen by a message, but it seems that Stephen has disabled messages.

It looks like you nailed that problem finally, because this evening my AVSIM fora session was very very fluid and easy, no page reloading at all whereas before, each time I was moving from one topic to the next the entire forum would literally "reload" (if that makes sense), but in any case, that navigation was lengthy, slow and unpleasant. Not anymore, so thank you for your efforts! Great work!

I've noticed a lot of news items on the front-page gets a 1-star rating. Is this because no one has rated the article yet, or because people actually go in and give them 1-star ratings? It creates a bit of a negative atmosphere when half the news items have a 1-star rating. If unrated articles get a 1-star rating automatically, it should be changed to a "no-star" (all grey) rating by default. If it's actually caused by people giving them a 1-star rating, I think the system needs to be changed in some way, like making comments mandatory. Then it would take more effort to give articles a rating, so people would actually think it through before rating. A counter that…

I have been a member of AVSIM for a long time. Just recently I began wondering exactly what does the A & V stand for? Obviously, the 'SIM' is self explanatory. Also, where on your web site does it show the complete meaning of this accronym? Thanks, ps: I realize this may sound like a stupid question.
