These days, whenever I open AVSIM forums on my iPhone it opens at the full site. Previously it used to remember the setting to use the mobile site. The site recognises I'm using a mobile device because the link to "Use Mobile Version" is present (it isn't there in my desktop PC browser). The problem is this link is tiny and at the bottom of the page on the phone screen. You have to scroll down to it and zoom in before you can access it. Other websites I use on my phone automatically switch to the mobile version. I tried creating a new bookmark in mobile view, but that doesn't help as the mobile version URL appears to be the same as the full version. If no way can be f…

Placing a pinned endorsement above File Library News signals a departure from the old Avsim. It appears Avsim may have abandoned it's roots and is shifting focus on what type service it provides to the community. It seems to be encouraging commerce, even though it has arguably the worlds largest repository of community shared files; what a burden, eh? The file library may be stagnant, but I don't see any pins encouraging amateurs, novices or grass roots developers to upload new files, or learn how to create content.

Just noticed it today, well done! Hopefully it didn't cost too much to get the paperwork filed. Will this have any effect on the AVSIM.xx domain?

Dear editorial team of AVSIM, recently i was somewhat marveled, that there was no evidence at all about 2 key announcements of the X-plane world on the front page of your otherwise outstanding site: the IXEG 737-300 on April, 24th and EADT x737 on May 1st. Maybe that I missed it somehow, if so please apologize. Dietrich Stoeckl

To the AVSIM team, and really to the entire community here, I just wanted to say thanks for what you do to provide this remarkable resources and to support our passion. I'm old to simming but new to the game of being serious enough about it to really hang out in a forum like this, and it's really been a great part of my new-found passion. The amount of information and guidance you can get here is truly astounding. So to all that help keep this place in the virtual air, thanks.

Thanks to all for your help in getting my sim back up and running. I have had a test of will power over the last year when it comes to my computer. I have had intermittent problems from shut downs to loss of info. When I would test it all would pass and finally I got a hit that proved to be the culprit. It was a intermittent memory card. Now it is wonderful to be able to install a program and have it be stable. Maybe I can get on with my life now. Thanks again for all the help. RLJR

I would like to give the site administrator(s) my feedback about the frequency and length of down time for this site. I intend the following to be inquisitive/informative in nature, and not a criticism of any person or organization. I visit approximately 20 web sites per day, several of which are forums. None of those sites experience the number of down time incidents as Avsim. Also, when the site does go down, it seems to remain down for up to several hours. This seems to have gotten worse in the past month or so, but as a visitor to Avsim since the late 90's (when it played host to the MSFS Benchmark sub-site and forum), I can say that the number of "outages" …

My friends, Each day we see members generate a repetitive posts here at AVSIM because they did not bother to first search the AVSIM forums or take the time to first search a product manual. Sometimes this leads to the original posters receiving a very negative response from members of the community, which at best embarrasses (or should) and at worst creates ill will or possibly alienates someone from our community. Someone might wonder why this is important. After all, we're all aware that AVSIM has unlimited disk space and bandwidth (lol). The answer is quite simple. The AVSIM forums are a valuable resource and wealth of information which allow the community…

I think Avsim should consider opening an unofficial RealAir forum. I am new to RealAir and just purchased their Turbine Duke V2. I was surprised to learn they do not have a support forum and there is nothing here outside of the FSX General forum to discuss their aircraft. Has there been any consideration of this idea?

Hi all, Is it time that FreeMeshX get its own forum? Main active thread on its introduction in the FSX forum has over 300 replies and 90,000 views as of today (5-23-15). This particular thread is beginning to get specific questions and answers, and it's only going to get worse. It's not specific to FSX, but other flight sims as well. It's freeware and there's already a freeware group it can find a home in. Thoughts ??

I just went to donate but unfortunately donating $5 or more is not currently practical for me. I will have to save up and donate to use the current system however I would say most people won't do this, and what if I forget? I would suggest removing the fixed donation amounts and allow people to choose the amount they donate, I suspect the amount of donations will increase (especially if you announce the change), most people have a dollar or two to spare, not many much more than that. Lots of small donations>=less big donations, so more small donations+current big donations=lots more donations . Just my $0.02 (pun intended) Update: Also had an idea of people who don…

Might it be possible to display an advisory message whenever someone posts on a very old thread? I've seen a few recently where people have responded to something posted a few years ago. On a SimFlight forum someone actually posted on a topic raised 11 years ago! They have probably done it in all innocence not noticing the date of the last post after performing a search. With a advisory message they may still post but otoh may feel it's no longer appropriate. Perhaps anything older than 6 months? Just a thought.

I recently made a donation to Avsim. I received a receipt from PayPal and an acknowledgement via Private Message from Avsim. Today I received this from [email protected]. "Thank you for your donation made earlier today. The email address used for your PayPal account does not match one in our user’s database. Can you please provide your user name on AVSIM? Thank you." Since I have already received a PM to my account at Avsim, I'm not sure what to make of it. If it is legit, where do I go "...on AVSIM..." to provide my user name.

Just something I was thinking about, So ill throw it out there and see what people think I think the Avsim site is fantastic, with all aviation siming Information, product reviews, expert and whacko opinions, up coming products, updates and a general all round Plane/Helicopter siming information experience, With everything at a click of a button. You wouldn't have to be a genius to know a site like this takes a lot of maintenance and running money to keep everything going rite. So why not have a monthly Membership subscription fee? Maybe a 3 month or 6 month subscription or even a year subscription for the price of 9 months? It would keep the site eve…

I know a lot of people who post on AvSim don't like using their full names. Fair enough. I've never had a problem with it but some will want to 'hide' behind a collection of letters and numbers for whatever reason. But when responding to those people it's sometimes a pain to type out their 'handle' as often it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue (or my fingers on the keyboard!) Could you consider making it mandatory for all forum posters to include their forename in their signature? That would certainly help when replying and wouldn't compromise their identity. Thanks.

I am not sure whether this has been discussed before, but it should be. Avsim hosts several many 'Unofficial forums' in the name of Payware producers. As such forums may be valid for a number of reasons, it also seems to invite the support of software piracy. Many official forums has a system of registering a members serial number or whatever before support is given. On the 'Unofficial forums' support is often given in good faith by Avsim members without this check of validity, which the Avsim member has no way of confirming anyway. It would seem that such a task could be controlled by a moderator, but here as well the problem of confirming the legalit…
