Beyond ATC Traffic injection performance issues

Featured Replies

3 weeks ago i purchased Beyond ATC, and the performance has been significantly worse than expected. My system specs should make performance a non-issue:
  • GPU: RTX 4080
  • RAM: 64GB DDR6
  • CPU: Intel i9-13900KS
  • Display: 3440 x 1440 ultrawide

Despite this, Beyond ATC cuts my performance in half. For reference, I typically get around 100 FPS at major airports using FSLTL or FS Traffic, but Beyond ATC completely tanks my FPS.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Reinstalled Windows, motherboard BIOS, and MSFS 2020.
  • Disabled base ATC and AI traffic in MSFS, as recommended in their knowledge base.
  • Ran the app in admin mode.
  • Kept my Community folder clean and tested only with the PMDG 737 at Dubai ( inibuilds )

Even with the most recent update this week, the performance is still terrible. Running the app with settings reduced to levels 2 or 3 makes no difference. I've done extensive research, troubleshooting, and tried every possible solution for nearly three weeks now.

What’s frustrating is how Beyond ATC seems far more demanding than FSLTL or FS Traffic, both of which use similar traffic injection methods but deliver much better performance and compatibility.

If anyone from Beyond ATC sees this, please only respond if you have useful help or information. Criticism is often met defensively, which just adds fuel to the fire.

At this point, I’m considering returning the app if things don’t improve, as the performance impact is unacceptable. It’s a shame for an app to cause such a dramatic drop in performance on a system like mine.

If anyone in the AVSIM community has solutions or insights, I’d greatly appreciate your recommendations.

  • I think we all get the point by now: BATC is a disappointment for you and you like to use words that aren't allowed. I love BATC on my 3.5 year old PC with a 3060Ti so I guess everyone has a different

That is just not true! It was clear from the beginning that BeyondATC offered 2 tier levels: Basic and Supporter. The difference being that Supporters would get access to certain functionality - such

  • I know it's each to their own, but that pretty much defeats the purpose of using ATC as it's not separating you from any of the traffic.

You might want to post this on their discord, it’s quite active.

I generally find the traffic injection from BATC less impactful on performance than either FSLTL or AIG traffic managers, so it makes me think there’s a bigger issue you’re experiencing that they might be able to help you with.

I already contacted them and had enough they were not helpful.

I saw this comment from the dev

“i mean you have a flight 1 day and you get 10 - 15 fps hit with all sliders on 10 which seems very reasonable then you get 20-25fps hit a sliders of 5 another day. So i guess the question is what was different between those days. Its not like BATC does anything massively different from one day to the next other than if you fly in the middle of the night one time and in the day the other”

To me that tells me that the app is not optimized and it’s not what they advertised. I know that if you go to a major hub, then you might have some performance drops and stuff, but not as dramatic as that, for an app that controls the traffic outside the sim it should not have this dramatic performance Again a similar app “Fs Traffic” does this job perfectly with minimal to no hit, even with the most unoptimized rushed sceneries.

But BATC isn't just injecting traffic:  it's managing traffic.  My system is in the same ballpark as yours and I keep all but Enroute sliders at 3.

From the dev above:  seems reasonable.  They are injecting up to as many air traffic as you have slider set for but also dependent on how much actual air traffic there is at least was since BATC uses RW traffic from the week prior or something like that.   So time of day would matter as well.  Actual CPU% in use by BATC w/ PMDG 738 out of KSFO:  ~2.6-4% which IMO is remarkably good.

Have you compared the amount of AI injected by BATC to FSLTL or FS Traffic (actual numbers, not just what you are visibly seeing? More than anything it comes down to the number of AI models and liveries in your current vicinity.

Stupid idea comes to my mind because you write it cuts performance in half: if you use frame generation and the BATC window is in focus, frame generation will be disabled and FPS are around half of what you are used to. If you then focus again on the sim window, frame generation will kick in again. Just a thought, dont blame me for thinking you are stupid please.

To all the smarty-pants in the comments I do not interact with the app directly. I use  the VR toolbar so I don’t have to go switching windows and I know frame generation gets disabled if I switched windows and I’m not doing that. the performance cuts in half as soon as the traffic is injected that’s a behavior. I don’t see with FSLTL or FS traffic.

to go from a solid, 100 FPS and almost all environments to a jarring 50 FPS is not good and definitely indicates a problem like I stated I cleaned my community folder so I avoid conflicts with any other add-on

as for the number of aircrafts in FSLTL I use 40 IFR’s 70 static and as for the range, I use 150 km air range and 50 km ground range I saw the exact same number of planes by using little NAV map and actually manually counting the airplanes in the airport with me and as for BATC number of traffic is a lot less specially ground traffic. All the sliders are set to five yet I only see 40 airplane max during rush hour. And the number of aircraft tops at 61 to 65 in Batc’s traffic map

My settings in the sim are modest and set at default HIGH

To discredit someone looking for help is not only trashy, but pathetic and sad it tells me so much about the people that think BATC is good

It sounds like  “well, I don’t have a problem so you shouldn’t be having a problem because everyone is the same”

so insensitive..

Same here. I keep traffic at 3 and my PC still suffers a FPS hit. Going beyond 5, forget it, a stutter fest. In short, you are not alone.

I get way better performance with BATC vs FSLTL. Also better performance using Vulkan than DX11/OpenGL.

BATC performs great in my rig ( see my sig ) with the sliders at the default "5". I can't glimpse any sign of performance degradation when running FS 2024, and my GPU is "only" 8 GB !!! and my CPU far from top... and RAM "only" 32 GB...

Together with FSLTL, although I am considering giving AIG a try when a final FS 2024 release takes place, I am more than happy with it's performance.

I can't say it performs in terms of smoothness beter than FSHUD, but feature-wise I prefer the ATC in BATC at the present ( January 2025 ) state. I did purchase the FSHUD upgrade for FS 2024, and used it for a few flights, but reverted to BATC and am really enjoying this one.

Since I am also an X-Plane 12 user, I am also always considering Say Intentions, because it supports both platforms.

Who discredited you? And I don't see anything wrong with the response from the dev - what specifically are you taking offense with?

Just to be clear, you don't have the Traffic Injector for FSLTL active at the same time as running BATC - correct?

Have you try to reduce fps from batc setting menu? Default is 60, try lower it

With a 7800X3d and a rtx 3600 ti, msfs 2020 and BAT work great for me. I have the traffic set at 4, which gives plenty of aircraft activity. Great program. Mostly fly with the FSS B727 or the flysimware c414.

This doesn't sound like an app issue at all. The OP has a better system than me and my performance has been drastically improved. There's a conflict or download issue I reckon. Defo report it on their discord.

What models/liveries are you using? You could try scaling them from 4k to 2k (both aig and ftl models can do it).

How did you setup @target fps@ in BATC? A too high value can impact performance too.

On my system, running triples 4k, 14700kf and 32gb ram, i can get 40fps at LFPG with batc traffic sliders between 7 and 9.

P.S.

Since you say you-ve reflashed your bios, and 13900ks is quite power hungry and running hot, how did you set up power limits, voffset, llc and vid? Too long to write here, but if you left everything default or unlimited, that`s not good. Check for intel reccomendations, then with hwinfo or similar, look at vid, temp, frequencies and such.
