I spent my weekend testing P3DV2.1 performance and just made a really long post over at the LM forum. I hate to cross post, but I think P3DV2 fans might find something interesting in my results as I lurk here all the time and learn a lot from everyone. It's also too long to post again. http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/?mingleforumaction=viewtopic&t=5822 Best, Rick

When I look at Lockheed's licensing page for Prepar3d in the web, I see red crosses where the row header says "entertainment purposes". Strictly said, because my one and only reason to use any flight Simulator at all is exactly pure and sole Entertainment, I'm not at all eligible as a legitimate customer. Are there really so many P3D users here in this forum who use the sim in a "really serious way"?!

Quote from the LM forum: There are two major things in v2.1 that we are currently working on. 1) The new validation we put in to help folks build better content actually rendered a lot of older content unoperational. Long story short, old comments in gauges and panels (that are technically errors to the compiler, but were never reported so no one really knew) could render parts of them non operational. We continue to add to our ContentErrorLogging system (search for it in the learning center if you're not sure what it is) to report warnings and errors to content developers. Little things help add up to OOMs, performance issues, etc, so we want to give as much debug info…

Hi, sorry to be a bore, here, but you guys are so good at giving valuable advice. Since running P3Dv2, my FPS have run at a lousy 13 on average, irrespective of settings, min or maxed. It seems also to load textures slowly... Strangely, with my FSX well tweaked, I manage regularly 20-26fps. Let me assure you, since acquiring P3D, I have tried separately all the standard tweaks (LM, Word Not Allowed, *******, etc...) to no avail. makes no difference. I am starting to wonder if there is any form of incompatibility at hardware level, given that P3D transfers a lot of usage to the graphic card, etc. My computer is an Intel based Apple (iMac 11, 23" monitor) …

I found the ContentErrorLog file to have been extremely useful in correcting coding errors in xml-based panel gauges. When I first opened the log file, there were 999 error messages (some were repeated). Now, there about 13 left. By commenting out various gauges in the panel.cfg file, I was able to determine which gauge was causing these error reports. However, I was not able to fix them. Nine of these errors were located within a gauge with over 30,000 lines of code, a Garmin MFD. The error messages looked like this: [error.1] error=Invalid variable (missing : - did you forget a macro?): [error.2] error=Invalid variable (missing : - di…

I already have this query on the official Orbx site for limited users but I'm posing it here also because I may get a quicker response. If I have an airport I want instead of a Global Set Airport do I have to disable the Orbx Global Airport or can I just position the airport I want above the Orbx sceneries in the scenery library? If I have to disable the Global Set Airport where do I find it? I want to use Aerosoft's Dillingham for Hawaii instead of the one in the Orbx Global collection for Hawaii. Noel

Going on a Tip from another user over at the prepar3d forum I tried this and was BLOWN away by the results. I deleted Nvidia Inspector from my PC, downloaded the latest driver from Nividia today and installed it. Used the settings in the Nvidia GUI to enhance my P3D settings. My FPS doubled and my free VAS after a 2 hour flight was doubled!! Amazing find by that user!!! I am running a very complex 737 and I get average 89FPS outside view and 45 in 3D cockpit with LOD and Tess settings maxed and 16x and 8x on the quality with FXAA on. Looks and runs amazing! I'm giddy as a young kid on Christmas morning!! Rob

Guys, I have had this problem since FSX. when I am flying straight and level my sim runs great. when I turn, it turns to complete custard and gives me a headache. The ground becomes a complete blur, the refresh rate seems to halve and as soon as I level out its almost like a snap back into smooth flying. I am running P3dv2.1 Very conservative settings, sliders mostly halfway, CPU is between 30%-70% GPU is around 40% (the counters are not peaking during the turns!!). So I can push my sliders way higher than this but I just needed to prove the point so people dont tell me to upgrade. even with sliders full left everything turned off at stock scenery I still get thi…

I Plan on using FTX Global textured with UTX NA and Europe LC... I'm aware the GEX (which I own) was specifically designed to work in UTX mode for better texture blending. So how do the FTX Global textured look in UTX? Do the textures look out of place or not match as well as the GEX textures? Thanks!

I'm trying to diagnose why I (and several others) are getting non-performance related stutters and looking for trends/commonality. If you could answer my poll questions that might help me proceed in a direction. To be clear, the stutters I'm interested in are ones where your frame rate is locked and doesn't fluctuate but your image visibly jitters. See this video for what I mean and note my frame rate is constant: Please be aware these are all the things I've tried so far to remove the stutter problem that have NOT worked: 1. Unlimited or locked 2. Moving display sliders all the way to the left (min) 3. nVidia Inspector settings (even set every…

After many hours of deliberating, it appears that the easiest and best combination for me would be FTX Global Vector FS Global with the landclasses as they are released and Rex Ess OD Now once that's on, is that as far as it goes? What I mean, is that as time goes on and I fancy treating myself, have I gone as far as I can go, or can it still be improved with payware airports (Aerosoft, UK2000) and other scenery? Can Orb FX England for example, be plopped on or is it a waste of time with what I already have? Thanks

  14. I took the plunge into Prepar3D and so far i'm rather pleased. I've done extensive tweaking, changing one setting after another which has taken hours to fully complete at this point, with some more to go. So I thought I'd share my experiences here. Take a look at my DX10 thread link at the bottom of my sig for a comparable series of tests I did with FSX. Incidentally the Estonia Migration tool is a fantastic piece of software.. makes installing most FSX addons a breeze. Short story: Since this is a long read.. here are the key points of what i found: -fibertimeframefraction 0.1 being added made a world of a difference, relatively.. 5 fps boost -bufferpool…

  15. Rather confused on this one.. seen various answers to this or people running other combinations.. If you already have FS Global 2010, do you need to buy the (new) FS Global FTX Compatible version and start with that one.. if running FTX Global and FTX Vector.. or does this matter? Has anyone tried it both ways.. any difference.. ? Thanks in advance

Interesting experiment today. I decided to try two flights in the same IFR conditions to compare Prepar3D with FSX. The flight was from Gander, Newfoundland to St. Anthony. The condition was low IFR for the VOR 10 approach. I used the same settings on FSX and Prepar3D understanding that there is much more autogen generated by Prepar3D. Volumetric cloud was on. Framerate was about the same, and even slightly better in FSX. But the level of immersion in prepar3D was so much better with the volumetric fog. In P3D, I was on short final and still looking in the fog ahead trying to see the runway. The tension of the approach was very acute and I even crosschecked N…

We have decided to create a complete category of forums for Prepar3d. With the upcoming release of version 2, we anticipate that there will be discussions covering all aspects of the new version and in preparation for that, we are creating an entire spectrum of forums to cover all aspects of this sim. In the coming days, look for more forums to appear in this category. If you have suggestions for Prepar3D forums that are not the obvious ones, please leave them in this thread.

I switched from the A2A C172 to the Maule as my default plane. It's my favorite of the P3D default planes: simple, easy, straightforward, nice view outside. I did however edit the aircraft.cfg to create a new pilot view because the default view is a bit to close to the panel (with my default zoom of 0.7). My new view is a bit more to the back. To get this done easily I edited the right seat view and changed it into the pilot view. This more backward view also make it a little bit less obvious that quite a few parts of the panel are rather low res... (Maybe someone will create a high res panel for the Maule...?) It was a nice surprise to see that when I saved my flight…

I am starting a complete reinstall of my FSX programming. I have long been a satisfied user of UTX from Flight1 but am also a great fan of things Orbx. I had promised myself that when the day came for a reinstall of FSX that I would move to FTX Global Vector for roads, rivers, coastlines, etc. Can I get a few comments about FTXGV vs UTX? The good, the bad, and the hopefully not so ugly? Do I wait for FTXGV 1.1 to be released?

Just a note, I have been having OOM errors with 2.1 but only when I do my test flight out of heathrow. Anyway I just did a San Francisco to Phoenix flight and no OOM and I am travelling between two big cities so I am happy since it appears to only happen out of London for me. I have my settings on quite high. Back to the flight, it was awesome, a dusk take off in fog conditions out of sfo was truly atmospheric. I miscalculated the thrust required for my 757 freenium to take off comfortably and seeing the road traffic lights at the end of the runway threshold, appearing late through the dense real weather fog, was a hair raising experience. I just about took off in t…

I am about to make the move from FSX to Prepar3D version 2.1 and along with this I am going to build a new computer system, just to be used with P3D. I don't know if it is correct but I heared that the video card is more important now then for FSX. What would be a good system, keeping a budget around 1000 to 1300 euro in mind ? If you would like to share your setup, that would be a great help also :-) Thanks and happy flying

  24. This probably is sounding like a near troll at this point, but I can't tell what the answer is to this question from reading posts about the topic. Often folks are trying diligently to test the limits of 2.1 and what it takes to OOM, but that doesn't really get to this question of 'is there something truly fundamentally different in 2.1 that causes OOMs to occur earlier when the same add ons & in-sim settings are being used, in similar scenarios? Responding to the poll will help folks who have not done the clean full install yet to decide to do this, and of course I'm one of those who just did the patched install. There should be enough of a consensus to get …

I must be missing something very obvious but during some testing I lowered texture resolution to the lowest possible setting, but... I didn't see any difference in P3D v2.1...? Not even after a reboot. Is this function broken? Or am I looking at the wrong things? I expected the VC of my A2A C172 to look like crap and the ground textures too but they don't. What am I missing here...?
