PMDG Turboprops (Legacy Versions)

Wanted to do some SE out procedures and I couldn't find any info in all the manuals on Air Starts...I understand that loading the engine up from the prop is bad for the gearbox, but are there no published procedures for an air restart incase of engine loss with no damage?JB

After take off I would engage the Prop Synch and leave in on during climb, cruise, descent and approach? Is this correct, I have looked through the checklist and AOM and can see no reference during flight that once it's engaged that you would ever disengage it, is this correct? Im not to familiar with props and for some reason its in my head that the prop synch should be off at some phase, I just want to make sure I did not miss anything in the manuals.

Hello All,Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. But I am having no luck in getting my J41 to go into max reverse.I am running the SAITEK Pro-Flight Yoke, plus an additional throttle quadrant.I have tried various combinations of configurations in FSUIPC to get this to work, but to no avail.I have tried using 1 lever as the power lever with reverse. I have also tried using separate levers for the power lever (no reverse) as well as a set of levers for reverse.I cannot get the aircraft to go past GROUND IDLE (the hash-marked area on the lever).Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Alright, last one in the J41 series of videos. I've had a rainy weekend and have had a blast both trying out this new aircraft and producing some videos of it. No video I could create can do this aircraft justice, but I still enjoy making videos of it just the same.I know many of you prefer videos with real engine sounds as opposed to having a music track in the background. I put together this video for you! The sound set is superb; the engines are great, but the virtual cockpit sounds are the highlight, in my opinion.I also demonstrate a few cool animations and features of the J41.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJT_rU0XhkoThanks for watching, comments very welcome.-Andre…

Hi,I have to say that flying the J41 the last two days has made me a convert to VCs.I just took the MD-11 up for a few circuits, and suddenly appreciated its VC.As far as FSX goes, assuming the VC is of high quality (e.g. MD-11/J41 standard) I doubt I'll use a 2D flight deck.I will say that I like the pop-ups of the J41 though.Fantastic work!!!!!!!Best regards,Robin.

Hi All,I think I read somewhere from PMDG that they were going to issue the manuals for the J41 in the same format as the MD=11.. IE Professionally done for us to purchase...Is that still the case because there is an awfull lot of printing for a home printer...lol..Dave

Hi,Now I've stopped burning up engines I can get to the finer points of the simulation!!Does anyone have the RXP WX500, integrated into the J41, and what is it like? Can you click the weather display to bring up the RXP like you can can with the FMS?Best regards,Robin.

Hello,First off, congratulations to PMDG for developing a truly stunning add-on - the best I've seen and I can't wait to see how the NGX will turn out now.I only have one slight issue with the J41 which appears to be a blurry altimeter. As you can see below, the actual altitude readout is blurred whereas everything else is crystal clear. Any ideas at all? Thanks

Actually, as soon as I hit the J41 thumbnail in free flight menu (I have C172 as default--cold/dark) the sound of J41 engines plays...then stops...then when I "spawn" in on the ramp...it starts out cold/dark then automatically, I hear engines spin up (but no engines are turning in the external view) for a second, then it stops and I'm in a semi-cold dark J41 setup...batteries are on (even though they are off in default). Please confirm--there is no "startup .wav" when J41 thumbnail is selected? How do I ensure cold/dark with the J41?ThanksRich Perry

  10. I've gone through tutorial and pre-flight/start sequence about 6 times now--I have CH Pro throttles and can't get J41 thottles below FLIGHT IDLE--if I use the mouse they start to move back but bounce back to flight idle. When I press F2 or F1 there is no movement either. Consequently I can't complete start up since I can't put the throttles in a position to achieve LREV and RREV. Condition levers are in taxi. Advice?ThanksRich Perry

Hi,Does the J41 have any failures modeled beyond melting the engines?I note there doesn't appear to be any options a la 747, MD-11.Best regards,Robin.

  14. Started by ESzczesniak,

Reading the manual, I am told that if I have highlighted an "appropriate" waypoint and then press the hold button on the FMS that I will be taken to the hold data entry page. Well, this doesn't happen for me. In fact, neither this or the promised position fix show up when I press the hold button. I'm wondering what I am doing wrong. Perhaps I am not choosing an "appropriate" waypoint, but the one I've been trying this with has a hold that's used frequently in real life (DBL VOR setting up for the approach in to Aspen). Any other suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong?Eric

Hi,I feel I must apologize on behalf of my country`s (now almost defunct) aerospace industry, us Brits must build the worlds most complicated aeroplanes ever. There`s an easy way, a hard way, and then the British way of designing aircraft sysytems! I used to fly the J41`s bigger and older brother the BAe/HS 748 and that was much the same. You had to hold the right engine at a certain RPM for so many seconds and press something else just to bring the aircon online, which never worked anyway. Spill vales, dump valves, choke valves, water methanol standby injection systems, lights flashing all over the place! I think it must have something to do with a nation of pilots and engin…

Hi,I've two questions regarding the Navdata ...1.) After installing my J41 I noticed that the Navdata is not new. It still is 08/08. It that correct? Or did the installer not overwrite the old Navdata from the MD-11?2.) Is it possible to buy a single update from Navigraph? I don't want monthly updates but I'd love to update ... say ... twice a year. Does Navigraph offer single packages?Best regards, Oliver

I`m not sure if this has been posted here before, sorry if it has. This looks quite interesting for anyone living in the North end of the UK.The guys here have got hold of a j41 airframe, preserved it and stuck a X-plane simulation into the flight deck!It looks like a good opportunity to have a close up look at a real J41. http://www.jetstream-club.org/They`ve got a video clip here of their simulator in action, and I have to say I like their style! give it full throttle THEN take the park brake off and swerve violently from side to side down the runway, superb :( http://www.jetstream-club.org/simulator/sim-med.wmvcheersJon

I can't figure out how to input SIDs in the FMS VNAV page properly... Take for example MARIA2G SID, EPWA runway 29. The charted procedure has 4 waypoints and an altitude limit of 5k ft up to final waypoint MARIA, but ATC always gives a higher clearance right after departure so for example you can expect FL100 at MARIA. I would like to type it into VNAV page but I can't change SID altitude restrictions, they don't even get highlighted. Any suggestions?

I've spent the last six or seven hours flying this magnificent aircraft. I must say, you have outdone yourselves PMDG. I won't go into specifics, but I believe this is your best FSX aircraft to date.Even after reading the tutorial, however, I still managed to toast a few engines; to much consolation though, it appears many others on this forum have as well!Anyway, after reading the tutorial and writing-off three aircraft trying to get the engines started, I finally managed to get this bird in the air. My first flight, as I do with most aircraft, was from Vancouver International to Victoria International. I recorded it with FS Recorder and later created a short music video…

Hi,Does anyone know what the aircraft code (e.g. B738) is for the J41?Thanks!

  25. Well, I'll be honest that I haven't been through all 700+ pages of the manual. However, I have been through the FMS sections very carefully. There is a reference to how bearing/distance waypoints will be displayed (i.e., identefier followed by *). However, I can't find the format to enter them. What I want to do is enter a waypoint that references off a VOR, for instance, 45 NM from AVE on the 100 degree radial (I know this would be a meaningless waypoint, this is just an example). Anyone figure this out yet? It would be most helpful, particularly for programing VOR/DME approaches.Eric
