As the anticipation builds for the release of the MD-11, several of us test pilots have been busy trying to break her (not literally break, but system wise), some of us have been doing ultra-long haul 10+ hour non-stop flights around the world. In the last few days I have been taking her around Europe and finally yesterday, a long over-water flight to St. Maartens from Amsterdam as KL765 which is a real-life route operated by the MD-11. The flight departs Amsterdam at 1435hrs arriving some 8 hours 40 minutes later at 1745hrs in St. Maartens after a long over-water flight. Hi all,in another thread someone was not sure about the depth of our MD-11 simulation compared to other fine add-ons out there, so let me show one example.The following sequence shows an 'all generators off' situation, meaning all engine generators are no longer working, for an unknown reason. A situation like that happened on a Qantas B747 some months ago, so don't think this never happens.Note that in such a situation hydraulic pressure is still being generated.So via the PMDG failures menu I select to fail all three engine generators, first only one, than the other two.Note that to handle this situation I can use a real checklist and all happens as indicated on that ch…

Hello Guys:Not being type rated on the MD-11 myself, i was wondering if any of the RW beta testers on the MD11 team had any comments on the FPS in FSX versus the Real World....Also, why oh why dont the windows open on the MD11 FSX? I am sure that they must do on the real world aircraft, After all, if the comms fail, how am i going to speak to the ground crew. Or what if the AC fails in the cruise and the cockpit starts getting warm? If i could open the windows, then the cooling breeze could be used instead and i could avoid unnecessary diverts.CheersPaul ;)

Did anyone see yesterday's "Air Emergency" episode titled "Fire in the Sky" on the National Geographic cable channel? The show provided a fantastic showing of the MD-11's glass cockpit at night as the pilots flew near Halifax just prior to losing control of the plane and plunging into the Ocean. The illuminated glass cockpit with all its colorful brightness contrasted beautifully against the night sky. As tragic as the flight was I couldn't help but think about the PMDG MD-11's release which could be in a matter of just a few days.

Folks,It's nice to be back posting in the forums after a month or so getting acquainted with the MD11. You'll have all seen Carl's excellent preview post and a few other threads along the same line.I thought I'd take a different tack so as not to cover their ground.If anyone has any so-far-unanswered questions that they want answered about the MD11 please post them here.
