Captains- This is a very unusual period of time in PMDG's history- as we have TWO products, on TWO different platforms winding down development at the same time. The PMDG DC-6 Cloudmaster is just about to wrap up beta testing on the X-Plane version, and the PMDG 747-400 Queen of the Skies II is very close to entering beta testing, which will start the wind down to release. Today, I am going to publish two update threads for you- one dedicated to the DC-6, and the other to the 747. Before we do that, however- just a quick note for those of you who pay attention to such things: Today is Mother's Day. Just a reminder from your friends here at PMDG. Now where was I? …

This isn't really a PMDG thing but the software is so relevant to the PMDG airplanes and the people that fly their planes, seemed like a good place to get the conversation going. I got PFPX a week ago and started tinkering with it. After watching a bunch of videos, many of which were talking about how powerful it is, I decided to make a flight and fly on Sunday. I set my departure as KEWR and my arrival to EGLL. I chose the standard 777-200LR template, created my airplane and started letting PFPX fill stuff in. When it got to the route, it failed...could not automatically produce a route between those two airports. I ended up trying various different things but, bei…

Hi everyone, I am just setting up my new PC and have come across two options that I have never paid attention to which are filtering and anti-aliasing in the FSX graphics tab. I mostly run the NGX and 777 so....... 1. Should I be running filtering with Bilinear, Trilinear or Anisotropic? 2. Should Anti-aliasing be ticked? I have looked in the NGX Introduction manual and cannot see these topics mentioned. Thanks again Greg

Captains! On our Facebook page, we have been giving you occasional glimpses of the PMDG DC-6 with images taken by our beta team as they make good use of her in the test flight environment. Today, I have a bit more in depth update to begin showcasing for you what we believe to be one of the finest classic propliner simulations yet offered to the sim community. The PMDG DC-6 Cloudmaster will come to you with the DC-6B and DC-6C variants, a range of free liveries and an in depth electronic manual to teach you how to operate this extremely comprehensive simulation of the classic airliner. Initial release will take place on the X-Plane platform, with FSX/FSX-SE and Pre…

Hello guys, I wanted to ask if you have any "special hints" for good scenery. At the moment I own FlyTampa OMDB Rebooted, Aerosoft EGLL and a freeware version of KHPL and all three of them are excellent. Dubai ist the most impressive here. Today I am thinking about buying FlyTampa St. Maarten. Which addon airports do you guys like the most? Best regards, Stefan

Hi, I have the latest cycle installed but the FMC is still saying "Nav Date is out of Date." The FMC show the correct cycle and the active dates, which is from April 28th through May 26th. I use the Navgraph Date Manager to install these updates. So, why am I still getting that message "Nav Data out of Date?" Ken.

ok I have 2 X systems. the first is a pc with high graphics capability and a lap top with top end graphics capability, however the pc is the most powerful. On both systems is installed FSX and PMDG 747 Queens of the skies. Both have been installed from identical disks and set up pretty much the same. When on the pc all my landings with ILS are experiencing low airspeeds, even though the flap scheduling is exactly as the FMC and HSI stipulate. The flaps low airspeed horn starts to sound, and the aircraft may lose its capture of the ILS However when landing with the laptop no issues with airspeed. So I set up a flight which was to take off KLAX 7L an…

This happens a lot, but I will use one particular flight as an example. I am flying from KORD to KLAX on a 777-300ER. I am cruising at FL380. My AIRAC is 1605, and I am going to take the RIIVR2 approach to land on RWY25L. Just after the HECTOR VOR is my top of descent, and after that, a waypoint, GRAMM, had a restriction: FL210B / FL170A. GRAMM is 74nm away from the airport. Once I get the "RESET MCP ALTITUDE" message, the plane, I set the MCP to FL170 and NOT press the selector. As I pass the T/D point, the plane does not descend (to be honest, the plane never automatically started to descend, I always had to push the selector). Mind you all, LNAV, VNAV, and A/P …

I'm trying to figure out how loud to turn my speakers to get a realistic level of volume for the 777 cockpit. Does anybody have any rules of thumb? Looks like you can get Decibel Meters apps... surely this could be used if there were some numbers on how loud things ought to be... Cheers, Sam Kharey

Can we expect shared cockpit feature for PMDG 737NGX or 777? Most of planes developers have already done this. Cheers

Hello everyone. Life story: I am struggling with flight simming itself, specifically the landing, and I would like to ask you all for help and advice. My problem is rather simple: I am unable to land manually, and if I am, then my plane is all over the place. I would like to get to the bottom of this issue, and I am getting back to the basics. I was taught to set the MCP altitude before T/D at the G/S intercept altitude. As a result of this, I almost always have to go into vertical speed mode, because I will not be able to reach altitude/speed restrictions along the descent path. The problem THEN becomes I am descending too fast, I am picking up speed, and I have…

Hi all, Since I lost all my heavy metal when I moved from FSX to P3D I'm pondering getting one...just haven't decided which. (I fly heavy metal from time to time...not hard core by any means.) Both the 777 and 747 are long haul aircraft and I know that some of you guys have multiple long haulers and, probably, both. What are the significant differences when flying and operating them? If you had to pick one, which would it be? Gregg

Hey, Rob curious if you have any thought or if you would like to share in reference what looks like an industry-wide abandonment of the queen of the skies, except for a loyal few? Whis United would be one of them Second this may seem trivial but could you guys develop the United Paint themes of old, with the tulip for your paint schemes. One other thought, what would it take to develop a minor program where if you put in specific data like the FS2Crew of the original PMDG 747, it would give you a print-out like the ones received from the on-board printer on the aircraft. May be silly, just thought it could add to the overall realism of the aircraft. V/R K. …

Since the bottom beacon lights are illuminating the engines can you simulate the top beacon lights illumination at the wings too? That would be awesome because when I was traveling with the 777-300ER at night in real life I always saw the beacon light illuminating the wing.

After the visceral response evoked by a single criticism of X-Plane default scenery in my previous post, I wanted to do my bit to demonstrate my willingness to learn more about this new (to me) platform. I'll venture that I'm not alone (especially here in a heretofore FSX/P3D centric ecosystem). I'd also suggest that as most of us here already have a considerable investment in FSX and/or P3D, it would be great to get a comprehensive understanding of X-Plane's possibilities, before embarking on another purchase path. When PMDG releases the DC-6 I'll hazard that the X-Plane user base will exponentially multiply. FOR MANY, it will be the reason for purchasing X-Plane (i…

So here is a little video about problem The problem is, that overall FPS in VC is 40-50. Even on high attitudes there is numbers like 60-70 FPS. But. The problem is, that I don't feel this FPS when move yoke. It feels like Yoke has only 10-15 fps. It's not smooth like in other aircrafts I have. Also spoilers, flaps, gear animation have the same problem. I tried to find topics about that, but every topic I found, cant solve my problem. So guys, if you know what to do, help me. Thanks. (My pc conf: i7 3770k, 8gb RAM, NVidia gtx 970, windows 10, game: Prepar3D V3.2.)

I'm currently reading a book titled, Fate is the Hunter, by Ernest Gann. It is a memoir of his, from his early days of flying DC-2s in the 30s, to flying in the war, then postwar till the 50s. It shows what air transportation was like in the beginning, very interesting stories. Im about halfway through, just got done with a chapter on him and his captain dealing with severe icing, he did an amazing job of telling the story, as he does all the others in the book. Anyway, I just thought some might enjoy it, with the upcoming DC-6 being from a similar era. And also I think anyone who likes aviation, history, and a good read will enjoy this!
