The Win7 OS Forum

As simmers migrate to Win 7, we are sure there are going to be numerous questions regarding the use of FS and other sims in this new system. We have opened this forum for the community to focus on that OS and the impact of FS use within it.

Hello Dear fellow Avgeeks; I just ordered a second SSD that I will be using for P3D v3. Yes, I will finally make my jump once its released later today. It will be my first P3D version, as I have always stayed with FSX/SE/04/02. I currently run 1 HD and one SSD. The HD is used for my OS and everything else. My SSD however, is used for all of my sim stuff and is almost full. So I have made a decision today to order another SSD, I got a second Samsung EVO 850@ 250Gb's. My plan is to Run ONLY my OS, which is win 7 64bit and P3D on it, nothing more. My question is the following: Can I only install Win 7 on my SSD with the Samsung Magician tool provided? If so, could someone …

After having too many problems with my FSX installation, I decided to uninstall FSX and format the drive that held it. After doing the above I am unable to get FSX and Acceleration installed, my system will not to run the "autorun.inf" file on the installation disc. I finally got FSX installed by running the "Check Disc" file, but the acceleration disc will not install running the Setup.exe, it goes through the motions but never installs! I don't know what happened to my Win 7 but for some reason it's refusing to autorun the "autorun.inf" files. I've googled this problem and tried every suggestion, to no avail! Unless someone here knows what might have happened, I'l…

Running Win 7/64 with FSX SE, and of course every other add-on known to man. I recently installed the A2A Comanche, the Flight1 GTN750, and a whole bunch of ORBX Alaska scenery. Had a problem with Aivlasoft EFB, so I uninstalled/reinstalled it, and in the process, I went to launch PFPX to get some data from it. My Taskbar icon was a generic cube instead of the familiar globe, and when I clicked on it, the message said the shortcut wasn't valid. Uh-oh! Went to the Windows start menu - not there! Opened Windows Explorer, couldn't even find th right directory. Did a search of my entire computer, and all I found was the installation file. So I went and downloaded the …

2700k, asus p68gen3, intel670 The machine runs for a couple weeks, and then locks up. Six iterations so far. Nothing will dislodge it, not even repair or Acronis disk. The people who built it have taken it apart and put it back together. No change But take the Crucial SSD and put it in another machine - it works fine. When it locks up, it gives an A2 (IDE detect fault) error notice on the motherboard. Is there anything to be done short of reinstalling Windows, which will wipe out FSX? And will reinstalling Windows even fix it? Any help would be very much appreciated.

After almost a year working perfectly all of a sudden I noticed how the audio devices associated with my external Asus Xonar U7 soundcard are missing (both playback and recording devices) and when I tried unplugging the USB cable and reconnect it I get a Windows popup message saying 'USB device not recognized' and in short that I should replace the USB device causing this error message if it persists even after restarting the PC. Obviously I've already tried restarting the PC to no avail and I also tried uninstalling the Asus Xonar U7 software thinking a reinstall might do the trick making sure the driver is in place etc but when I was about to reinstall the software …

Can we make a list with windows updates that affects FSX performance (stutters and low FPS), or updates that we don't need in our PC's. It will be very useful for all of us! Thank you very much!

Please follow instructions to disable it or remove the KB update. Thank you M$. Wondered why my HDD was working hard every few minutes. You can have this running even if you have not joined their "Experience Program" so check just in case. No damage will occur removing it, and your FS will thank you for it.

Hi there! I recently un- and reinstalled FSX on my Win7 64bit machine. Before that, my 2 years old install of FSX would show bad stuttering and high CPU load most of the time. So I decided to make a fresh start. I ran out of SSD space anyway, so that new install gave me the opportunity to clean things up! ;-) The "new" FSX (DX9, and the only two tweaks being Highmemfix and Affinitymask) performed absolutely fantastic, with fps well above 20 in the heavy hitters over and on complex scenery and most of the times with values of over 30! CPU load was 60-85% and all was stutter free! Until yesterday, when I took the NGX for a short flight from ENVA to ENBR (both Aerosoft…

  11. Windows 7 dual Boot with Windows 10 Windows 10 recognizes the nVidia GTX750 video card and it works properly. However, Windows 7 only sees it as a generic VGA card preventing using it for P3D/FSX. Device Manage shows it as a Generic VGA Card. I tried a Windows 7 repair but no luck.

I see that Prepar3D's website recommends Windows 7, but with Windows 8 being newer I am torn between the two. What are your experiences and opinions of the two operating systems and which would you recommend?

Having bought a new PC, I got round to installing fs9 and all my many add-ons onto it. Just when I got everything running really smoothly, something terminal happened which meant I had to do a complete re-install of Windows. So, on the advice of my PC guy, I purchased a 128Mb SSD and just installed Windows and all the start up programmes on it. Everything else, is going onto the 1Tb hardrive. Early indications are looking good. The PC get's from swith on to home screen in about half the time and FS9 seems to be running a lot quicker to. Just a suggestion should anyone be interested.

After reading numerous topics it appears I can not just simply update from Win XP and have everything in FSX work, correct?? Currently have FSX in the 'C' programs (default) location. So am going to have to reinstall FSX and all the add-ons? Is there a step by step instruction link anywhere for the update I want to do? Thank You for any help.

hello, I have a really simple question. After 4 yearsor so, I am about to build a new system. I have selected the components, I have the money in the bank and so I thought I was ready to go. Until last night I read an article that made me wonder... I have a Windows 7 64bit home premium DVD in my drawer that I have used to build my current system with. I checked the DVD last night and it is an OEM version. Now I am wondering, can I use that same DVD to (re)install windows 7 on my new system? My guess is that installing it will probably be not the problem. Getting it activated is what is bothering me. I want to stay away from windows 8 or 8.1 for the moment. …

Hi. I am thinking to clean up all that mess I have done while transitioning from FSX boxed to Steam and I am wondering if there is an easier way to bring my PC close to a factory state without reinstalling entire OS? I need to wipe out everything (folders, registry and stuff like that) without leaving any trace of what I have before. I just need a fresh start. I have 4 SSD drives and ASUS mobo and I was told that reinstalling OS would not be easy as I had it in my old HP machine where I was able to reinstall OS very fast and easy. Thx for looking

Last time I did the update and restarted cuased my ssd to lockup, and had to reinstal on a spare one. So I fall for it again and update (today), and when I restart I get a black screen with a blinking hash upper left corner. I would appreciate some advice as to what I can do if anything to remedy this (Please do not ask me to go to Microsoft as I found nothing). It seems to hang right before it goes into windows. Thanks in advance for any help.
