After years of using FS9 and recently FSX (DirectX 9) in full screen mode, I have found that FSX in Direct 10 preview works quite well, as long as I stay in windowed mode. I am running a three monitor setup with one monitor for the VC (with the borderless tool) and two additional monitors for 2D panels which I undock and drag over to the other two monitors. I would like to make the frames of these 2D panel windows "invisible" by changing the colour of the window frames, titles etc. to the same colour as the monitor's desktop BMP. I have found several how-tos on the net, but none of them makes the colors change, they always stick. I know this is a flightsim forum, …

A little heads up should this happen to you. W7 64bit. Updated NVidea drivers 732.54. No problems. When to start FSX and (a) noticed the shortcut icon had reverted to that system thing. Instead of FSX starting I got an error message along the lines of "This program wont start because it's incompatible with your system blah blah 32bit blah blah 64bit refer to the program developers" Lapse into OMG! mode. Googled like a man possessed...Nothing. Went to FSX root folder and clicked on fsx.exe. Same message. Many emotions ensued including 'Oh well, I've got P3D' and 'Bugger, I'll have to re-install everything' Calmed down enough to start digging in the fsx.exe's…

In my effort to save a few bucks on my system build I came across this on Amazon. The reviews seem mixed, but most are saying the only issues are having to activate via phone or not receiving some promised mousepad or whatever. Would you have any reservations about buying a product like this? It's an OEM copy of Win 7 and it's for a brand new build. I'm not the most tech savvy person in the world so any issues beyond me having to call in to activate it might cause me some problems. I suppose I could try to get it refunded in the event that it doesn't work. https://www.amazon.com/Windows-Professional-bit-Activation-Code/dp/B01B9WYQU2/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie…

About a week ago, after several days being away from my computer, I brought up FSX and proceeded to load a new flight. It took about 3 times longer than usual to load, and once in the VC my FPS was constantly bouncing from 12 to 30. Usually it's rock solid at 30 where it's fixed. Flew for about 2 minutes with no relief, and shut FSX down completely. Brought up Task Manager, it showed an scvhost.exe chewing up 25% of my cpu along with about 300MB of memory. After some frantic research it turns out this problem was not a overt virus but a sick Windows Update doing nothing productive while 24/7 eating a fair chunk of my processing power. The easy fix was to completely …

I'm not sure what's going on, I never had this problem before. I usually leave my computer on 24/7, haven't put it to sleep or shut it down in a month or so, but everytime I shutdown or restart, it's fine. But as of today when I go to start menu and restart, my computer boots up past the ASUS logo screen and then black screen, and nothing... it just sits there forever. I tried to push the reset button on my tower a few times and same thing. I wanted to enter Safe mode but f8 opens up the default UEFI boot menu and there's no safe option at all so I don't know how to even enter safe mode. But any how after a few tries of resetting my machine and rebooting, it takes…

My server 2003 has stored my users "My Documents" folders for years. We recently bought new windows 7/office 2010 workstations, and the folders started showing up as "My documents" instead of the user names I had given them. Two of my isers have experienced a loss of data, as if they suddenly had their current files replaced with old versions of the data. My last user lost the ability to access several folders on the server, and after I rebooted the server and his workstation, all his docx files were replaced with randomly named .tmp files. I tried to rename them, open and repair, ever recover with an office recovery application, which reported that there was no data to …

I have begun to slowly reinstall my addons into Prepar3D v3.3.5 but have had an issue trying to install a freeware airport. I was receiving a message stating that I had to be logged in as Admin in order for the installer to work. I checked my UAC and changed the compatibility for the installer and applied to all users to no avail. I began to think about how I was logged in and found a site explaining how to log in as the administrator. The site explained that I had to type a command in the elevated cmd prompt, which is the following: net user administrator /active:yes I then proceeded to log off and I was provided with 2 login's, one for the Administrator and…

I have three desktops, and two laptops in my home which run Windows 7 home premium. My primary computer with which I have FS9 and FSX installed along with a number of addons has a massive number of folders originated from an unknown source. None of the other computers ever display folders like these. Even after upgrades and reinstallations this scenario has persisted. For example, just picking a couple out of probably hundreds: 30d4a567f3f8del2 or 46f504de209f369eo68c5cafed75ec If I double click on any of these folders they appear to be empty and they display 0bytes. If I try to delete them, they say they are shared? Should I delete them, and if so …

Hi folks, Just to share what happened to me recently... Last week, I innocently installed the last batch of routine Windows 7 updates... Never again! On re starting the computer, I had a secure boot violation message and Windows would not start again. The message was then taking me to the BIOS/UEFI page of my ASUS motherboard. After some research online, I found out that a boot violation is a known problem. The motherboard basically stops the OS from starting if it does not recognise all the elements on the computer. To get rid of it, and therefore allow Windows 7 to start, you need to disable Secure Boot in your motherboard BIOS/UEFI. First hurdle, on my ASUS…

I'm having an issue with some Aerosoft Scenery and basically they say it was not tested with W10 so I'm stuck with a broken product. I built my new computer over the holidays and saw the only OS I could purchase was W10. I don't want to buy OEM but full retail. Anyone know where to buy a retail copy of Windows 7?

Putting this here as there is no generic OS forum, and this is one of the options anyway... After learning for some time now about the nuances of radeon cards for simming, combined with me desisting of upgrading an older second machine based on Nvidia because I would end up like always using just ONE PC and the other would just gather dust, and topping it off with coming to the conclusion that a new skylake cpu would add little to no benefit to what I currently had, I decided and ended up with: - Keeping my i7 4790K w/Asus Maximus Hero VII Z97 motherboard and Corsair H100i cooling system. - Adding another 16GB of matching RAM to my G.Skill Trident-X 2400Mhz DDR…

After checking to see if my computer was up to date, the updater says I have 3 serious and 1 optional (windows 10) updates. I can select the security updates but unable to install them unless windows 10 is also installed. I already have blocked numerous Kb's to include 3035583 which force windows 10 on your windows 7 system. Any idea how I can install the important security updates and keep windows 10 off the "New" computer. On my older machine it really messed it up and had to reload the OS to get rid of the win 10 I have read last week where Microsoft was getting more devious in their attempt to make the 1 billion mark on windows 10. I was trying to calibrate my mic to use with FS2Crew, but upon loading Speech Recognition from the control Panel in Windows 7, it says missing file SpeechUX.dll not found, so I did a manual search only to discover that my entire 'speech' folder is missing from C:\Windows\System32\. Can someone please help me or show me how I can fix this to get those folder and files within it back?

I recently sent a spec in to a PC builder company in the UK. I particularly want to use Win 7 for a number of reasons, but they tell me that Win 7 doesn't play nicely with Skylake, and I need to go to Win 10. I'd rather go back to Haswell than settle for Win 10 - but has anyone tried Win 7 with Skylake on a flightsim PC, Thanks Eugene

Just looking to confirm something for myself. Do you keep your computer updated, use Internet Explorer and recently found over a dozen tracking cookies during a scan? Have you tried to remove them but they keep coming back each time you use IE? If you have updated all your machine's software but haven't scanned recently, scan before you reply if you are going to say your machine is clean.

I have Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate. It's been awhile since I last defragged. And my HDD which P3D/FSX/XPX are installed on is getting almost full. I have about 50GB left on the drive. It's a 2TB HDD. So I was wondering what is the best defragging/drive optimization tool out there, and will it make a difference to my flight sim? I notice when flying I am getting decent frames, like 20-30FPS (Frames locked to 30). But I do see a lot of stutters at times, when loading up certain areas when I fly. Could this be the cause of drive defragmentation?

Recently upgraded to a 6700K using Win 7 installed on a SSD(Asus MB). Now, apparently, my system boots so fast, I can no longer get into the BIOS. I've tried using both the F2 and Delete key doing everthing from multiple key presses to just holding the key down and the best I've been able to do is, get into the safe mode/repair mode screen. A Google search has shown a number of people reporting this issue after CPU/SSD upgrades. None of the suggestions has helped. Anyone else ever have this issue? I'm willing to upgrade to Win 10 if it would help. I even have a unused disk of Win 8 (shudder!). I'm that desperate. John

Hi, My mother board died and the cost was not worth doing a replacement. I purchased a new computer and it has windows 7 pro on and possibly the ability to upgrade to 8.1. For now I am going to stay with windows 7 pro. I read somewhere that with 7 it will not show a drive more than 2.1. The articles I have seen are from 2010-2012 is this still a problem or should I just upgrade to 8.1 to resolve this issue? I have yet to load fsx.

Don't know if this the right forum for this as not sure it is an OS problem. I have noticed that I have literally hundreds of agn and bmp files on my C-drive (my primary and only hard drive). They are not in a sub-folder, they are right at the C-drive first level. They are taking up several gbytes of space it looks like. Some of these files have names like "FTXG_Tramroad_Single_HW....bmp" suggesting it is an ORBX FTX Global scenery files, but most just have number names like "065b2lm1.bmp, 065b2lm2.bmp..." etc and "065b2an1.agn..." I am wondering if when I installed ORBX Global and checked the option to make a backup of my P3D default textures, they were put here. If th…

Greetings all, I am experiencing a strange problem with my computer while not running MS Flight Simulator, or any other simulator. While performing normal MS Office, MS Outlook, and IE11 operations, I noticed my computer running very, very sluggishly. I opened Task Manager and to my surprise, the Physical Memory in use was > 6.0 GB. There was no apparent explanation for this high memory usage. I attempted to troubleshoot by closing programs, stopping services, etc. However, I could not bring the memory in use down below 6.0 GB. The other evening, I re-started the computer using msconfig.exe after stopping all start-up services. I left the computer running …

This is for anyone with WINDOWS-7 that would like there computer to run like normal again by getting rid of the virus's (Microsoft has disguised as recommended updates) or slowdowns Microsoft has installed over the past few months. Go to... Windows Update // View Update History // Installed Updates Then once you are there look for the following installed updates. (See below) If any are found select each one individually and at the top of the screen click uninstall. This is the one that nags you every time you turn on the computer to install windows 10 (if you want to install 10, please skip this one) KB3035583 The rest are Telemetry which sends Microsoft…

Hi, My system: Windows 7 Ultimate SP-1 ASUS X99-WS/IPMI 32 GB RAM i7-5930K @3.5 MHz Gigabyte Geforce GTX 980 Ti Just upgraded my system for graphic and video editing. I have run FSX for years on my previous systems without any issues. On my new system I installed FSX with Acceleration, ORBX vector and various ftx system. Interesting enough is that after installing FSX I started the simulator and it worked! Then I installed Accelerator and.... when then starting FSX I have a crash at the first FSX splash. Error: GPU not meeting minimum requirements. Invalid Hardware or Driver Detected. Fault caused by G3D.DLL I see others running on similar setu…
