Hardware Controllers: Joysticks/Yokes | Throttle Quads | Rudder Pedals | Drivers etc

This is a forum to discuss issues with Joysticks, pedals, yokes, other interface hardware like panels, etc.

Hey Guys and Gals, I am a design engineer for a prominent sporting goods manufacturer.I have also gotten hooked on these crazy flight sims. With the help of some pilot friends of mine, I am in the process of designing a prototype controller consisting of a column style yoke, rudder with toe brakes, and reverse thrust equipped throttle.I started with this design criteria in mind. Rugged aluminum construction, generic, affordable, realistic feeling controls, with upgradability and expandability options. More buttons, switches, trims, force feedback, throttle quadrants, autopilot, etc can be future options.I think I would be able to tool up and offer the base controls for ar…

So, Saitek finally came out with it. It s a nice little unit, with buttons and knobs, but they claim it only shows one of six instruments, so here's my question: the panel comes with 'developer's software', which leads me to thinking: (1) can this software adapt the panel to FS2004, and (2) can this software make the panel display GPS? My opinion is this: if the panel was able to show the GPS, I'd find the $$$ to buy it in a heartbeat. It'd be great to have a stand-alone GPS display to free up space on the monitor. Can anyone here with any development savvy shed some light on this theory?

HelloCan't decide which one to buy. Are the new features included in TrackIR 5 worth the extra money? TrackIR 4 is available from Naturalpoint at quite a bit of reduced savings as compared to TrackIR 5. I can afford both, but most of my flying is airliners using FSX I would like to hear from users for both pieces of equipment. Any help, would be much appreciated. Thanks in advanceEd Ward, Jr.

Hi All,I know this has been discussed a lot but there are new products out that alter the equation. It's a choice for me between the more expensive CH NEW yoke ( with paddles etc ), peddles and the throttle quadrant OR the Saitek yoke, peddles , throttle AND they have a multi addon with gear lever... PLUS a colout LCD display. Now if I went for the CH stuff it would cost about the same as the Saitek.I have a registered version of FSUIPC and I wonder if anyone knows if I could get the RXP 530WAAS to display on that Saitek LCD addon?I know CH have a good reputation but Saitek are cheaper and offer this modular addons option.Any opinions welcome! Plus if anyone knows if I can…

I have got the Saitek rudder pedals to operate correctly, however, I do have one problem and that is I am always displaying the 'brakes' are applied in the bottom left corner of my LCD screen. I hit both the rudder pedals and the brakes applied red light does not go off on my screen, however, the brakes are not on in the simulator functioning. What can I do to get rid of this annoying brake lighting?jack

  7. Started by JimmiG,

I've been using my CH Yoke and pedals for many, many years, but I'm thinking about getting a somewhat higher quality joystick. I can't use the yoke comfortably on my small desk without seriously reorganizing stuff every time I want to fly. Also it's showing signs of age, with the yoke sticking pretty bad when pushing in and pulling back and the prop/mix sliders have been broken off once and glued back. I don't want to have a mid-flight prop lever emergency...I've accumulated a few of the cheaper sticks from Logitech, Saitek etc. over the years, but none feels good enough to be my new primary controller. Not to mention they usually only last for 6 months at most before the…

  8. Hi there!Got a smooth FS9 sim with lot of addons, and everything is performing very well except this:When using CH Pro pedals for braking i get some 5-8 sec of stuttering. When releasing the brakes its getting back to normal again. The sim is running very smooth with 40-60 FPS, but when using the brakes its is getting down to 20-30, but its the stuttering which is quite irritiating. Anybody who knows what can cause this?A r v i d

  10. Hi allI am in desperate need of help from you guys regarding the desk top yokes by precision flight controls at-http://www.flypfc.com/yokes.htmlespecially the Mooney and the Saab models.I have tried both the ch yoke and recently the saitek pro and found these 'sticky' The saitek is only 2 months old.The 'stickyness' makes all flight manoeuvrings very jerky and this makes landings impossible.I read somewhere about the precision products and thought I will ask for help form you guys. Please tell me if these are as sticky as the other 2 brands or notand is the up and down movement as smooth as it was mentioned in one of reviews as 'cutting through butter with knife'?I hope yo…

  11. Hey gang,I finally gave up my X52 yesterday and got myself the Saitek Pro Flight Yoke System (Yoke + Throttle quadrant). To my astonishment there where no extra throttle heads in the box. I was under the impression there should have been (that impression came from what I've read on forums etc, not from the box). Was my assumption simply wrong or should I take it back to the shop and request to have those extra heads? If I'm wrong I can only assume those extra heads come with purchasing the stand alone throttle quadrant, which I'm planning to do. (I also feel it's pretty cheap of Saitek to keep those heads as they can't be all that expensive after all.) However, from what I…

  12. (Copy of post placed on FS2004 forum before I discovered this forum - apologies for double posts)Have been using CH Pro pedals for the past six years or so mostly with only minimal hassles. But after my latest reinstall of FS2004 and reinstall of the pedals (& yoke) plus axis assignment and calibration (using FSUIPC) the differential brakes indicator is always on and the brakes do not release. I have tried all the suggestions I can find on the web (of which there are many - this does seem to be a common problem with these pedals) but none work. The only solution has been to completely disable the toe brake feature of the pedals and assign brakes to a button on the yok…

HiI am considering to buy a new CH Eclipse Yoke, as I have been reading som less positive comments about the Saitek Yoke on different FS Forums.I would like someone who have been using this Yoke for a longer period of time to comment if the Elevator handling is smoother than it was on the old CH-yoke, and if Yes - is it still is smooth after a longer period of use - i.e. will it stay smooth or will the smoothness slowly decrease over time? Thanks in advance. :( RergardsHenrik Korning PedersenNuukGreenand

Can any tell me why, when the toe brakes are pushed on the aforementioned pedals, the brakes stay on even after i take my feet off them? Any setup points i may have overlooked? Are they broken? Or is that just how they are. :( .TYVM. Look forward to a reply.

  18. Greetings!I am about to buy the Saitek Pro Flight Yoke and Throttle (x2) set up. I have seen threads where there were problems with both initially, however the reviews on recent purchases seem pretty much positive. There is a current thread on the Saitek Forum, however, where a purchaser is going to return his purchase for a refund after much grief. Am I making a mistake, or should I proceed with the purchase? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks much!Bruce

Hi there,I spend 99% of my sim time flying heavy jets - nothing smaller than a Boeing 737/Airbus A318, and usually the larger 747/767/777 etc... Almost all flight control hardware I look at seems to be aimed at GA/General Aviation flying... Can anyone recommend good hardware that would be great for controlling these big birds? One thing I'd like to be able to do (wierdly) is have independent engine thrust control so as to make tight turns easier when taxiing, so preferably a set with 4 thust levers would be good. However as I'm currently using a (very) old Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick, anything would be better!!Many thanks for your advice.

  20. I just bought one of these from FSPilot shop (it was 80 bucks cheaper than anywhere else on the web!) and I'm having a serious problem with taking off. This poster over at their support forum put it best in January, but no one has provided a detailed answer:< thanks phil987 on Wed Jan 28, 2009 9:37 pm > "Pressing on the speed/altitude/heading hold buttons default the autopilot/autothrottle speed/altitude/heading to the current speed/heading/altitude. E.g. before take off I set the auto throttle speed to 250 KIAS, just after take off I switch on autothrottle and press the speed hold switch, but the speed then defaults to the aircrafts current speed. This has been a hard problem to try to figgure out so I have just been living with it. I have a new 3-26 inch LCD monitor setup with a new computer that has three video cards; one for each LCD monitor. I 'm using a "wireless" Microsoft mouse. Sometimes I receive a "message" that the receiption of the mouse signal strengten is "low" then the message will go away. I start a flight using the B-200 King Air with a LEFT, Center and Right views on three differant monitors. Most of the time I leave the mouse "pointer" in the CENTER monitor and most of the time I don't have this problem and then again I do.... it comes and goes, at will. On a 2 1/2 hour flight this morning from…

Hi, I have had this for quite awhile and my computer recently crashed deleting a lot of settings etc. So now I am trying to fix my Pro Flight thorttle quad. I fixed it before but cannot remember how to. Basicly what is happening is when ever I have the Z axis on 0- it keeps move the thorttle in game up and down, or if I have the Z axis at 100% and move the Y axis down, the Z axis moves too. (My z axis is s set to thorttle by the way) U have tried setting the null settings at 0 and 100% and same with sensitivity. Not really sure what to do here.

Does anyone have any pictures of what the inside of a pro Flight Yoke looks like? I am in the process of putting my yoke back together (long story) and I seem to have everything lined up, but I have no tension when I move the yoke from left to right. When I pull and push on it it feels normal. I suspect I may have something misaligned. ThanksRegan
