I bought a new Dell Dimension 8400 about 2 weeks ago with 1GB Ram and 3.4 Pentium. Almost immdediately I would get random shutdowns of Windows Explorer , while trying to load stuff on the new PC. The shutdowns were caused by Data Execution Prevention in SP2, which the PC came with already installed on the OS. After several shutdowns, I went into the DEP mnu and disabled it for Explorer. Next day, I re-enabled it, and for about 1 day everything was OK. Then the same thing started happening again. After more than a few calls to Dell Tech Support ( another story for another day), they agreed to install a new harddrive and reinstall a new OS and all my default programs. I…

Please don't move me to the hardware forum before reading my post about "Rudder Pedals"!!!:-) Its really a software problem: There must be a way of calibrating the pedals so that the brakes are off. My aircraft all sit on the runway threshold and seem to be slow to accelerate. The word "Brakes" is on in the lower left of the window. My concern is that I could get rid of the word? But will the brakes still be on. I also get a "Differential Brakes" caption but not unless I depress the toe pedals. Just for completeness I turn off the parking brake. Any help would be appreciated. Does anybody know if the Edimensional 3d glasses work with ATI cards and FS9 now? I had a pair about a year ago but sent them back because they weren't compatible with my Radeon 9600 Pro. Has there been any change in the situation since then?

Hi,I've just changed my parallel ATA hard disk with a serial ATA one, reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows XP PRO SP1, updated motherboard drivers to the latest available (chipset i848, Asus P4P800-SE), installed FS 2004 but it doesn't want to start. After the installation, the first time I've launched it it generated scenery database, index etc but after that it hangs up.I tried to launch it into safe mode (not windows safe mode), I tried to restore default parameters but it always hangs up.It seems the problem is a module named "hungapp".If I connect the old hard drive and I boot the system from it, everything works fine.FS 2004 is the only one program installed so far in …

Hello, this is for anyone that might know what is going on here. I just installed Microsoft Office 2003 on my computer and I am noticing that all Microsoft ".cfg" files that have anything to do with FS9 now are using the Microsoft Office/Outlook ICON instead of the normal "Notepad" ICON. This did not seem to have any effect on the operation of FS9, so I am not really that concerned, just curious as to why the .cfg file icon would change. Is this maybe some kind of security blanket that Microsoft has instituted for it's program files, because I had to choose the "Notepad" program to open the file? I have now gone into properties and set the .cfg files to open using "Not…

Pretty self explanitory. I just got the CH yoke and pedals and both are USB, when I connect them and try to start FS9 it hangs at the intro screen. I can load it and then plug them in and all is fine, but can't keep them plugged in, any ideas on this?Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International

Hello, I recently purchased an Aurora ALX system from Alienware. It is running the FX-55 processor, 2 Gigabytes of ram, and two Nvidia 6800 GTs. The primary use of this machine is for a project dealing with Alaskan Aviation safety. I have aquired 10m data for many areas of Alaska from Space Imaging, and through the normal processes (correcting the DEMs, getting the correct elevation models, etc) imported the data into the game. The imagery looks amazing and the system performs well, even on three monitors. The questions I have are pertaining to decreasing or altogether elimating the "popping" of the scenery in the the field of view when the player/plane entity gets incre…

Hi, Having just purchased FS9 and being very excited about finally playing it, I get an error upon installation at disk 2.It appears one of the CAB files (MSGAME6) is corrupt, and so the game won't install. I have tried running a clean boot incase that was the problem, and have also tried using Advanced CAB repair, to no avail.Anybody have any ideas? Many thanks

WOW!!! I just upgraded the processor and motherboard in my computer from a P4 2.4 GHz to an AMD Athlon 64 3000+. I know it was only a 600 "MHz increase in speed" (realizing that the athlon is actulaly 400MHz slower), but it sure did make a difference!I didn't upgrade anything else, still have 512MB DDR 2700 and a GeForce 4 Ti4200, but WOW! I can't believe the framerate jump I'm getting! It's acceptable now to fly at Heathrow with Ultimate Traffic maxed out, and everywhere else things are very fluid. The only time my frame rate takes a dive seems to be when I'm in clouds. Do you guys think that that's because of my video card perhaps? To think, I really didn't notice al…

Hi Gang.I'm having no luck lately, I was being plagued with a g2d.dll error constantly in FS9, despite being up-to-date with all my drivers, and the drivers being installed properly I might add, but now that I have completly removed FS9 and my add-ons etc, and removed any remnants of it from the registry too,I was talking to a MS Support techie yesterday who spen't two and a half hours on the phone with me checking this and that, but in the end he suggested I remove, and re-install FS9 . . . . well, I asked him about DX9, and if there was a way to remove it, and re-install it, he told me to get rid of any DX related files from the registry in the usual place, HKEY-LOCAL_M…

I know this card is pretty good at running flight sim, but i also have a few games that work in Open GL. Idealy i would get a 6800 ultra but it would stretch the buget somewhat, i have just seen a 9800 pro at a quater of the price of a 6800 U, so i am very tempted to do a final update on my system before starting to save for a 64 bit jobbie. also would i see a big ncrese in FS9 performance as well as a reasonable increase in Open GL, maily NASCAR Racing 2003, but also a few other games?Cheers

In reinstalling Fs9 and sorting through all the files, I accidentally clicked on a *.wx file inside my saved flights for the sim and now all the associated *.wx files are opened with MS Notepad. I had wanted to assign Notepad to the *.flt files, not the *.wx files. How do I change the *.wx files back to the MS Windows icon I had before?Appreciate any help on this, thanks!JS

Hi all,I'm using a Dell Dimension 8250, 2.8 gig Pentium 4. Have 1024 mgs of Ram, and of course, I am looking for the very best smoothness and frame rates possible in my favorite sim, FS9. I have the OC version of the Nvidia 6800GT card (256Mg)and I run my monitor resolution at 1280 X 1024.Please tell me what AA and AF settings you are most successful using. I've tried many combinations, and I can't be sure which is the best compromise of performance and quality. I have the very latest Nvidia drivers (71.84)which I feel SHOULD be the best. Right?Look forward to your comments.

Hello!I'm running 2k2 on WinME on a P4 1.4G, 256RAM, GeForce2 64meg with about 60% of my HD free.I've been told that:1. I can easily install XP over ME without having any probs.2. After doing this I should be able to get FS9 to run well, with possibly a bit more memory. As my system is, 2k2 runs much better than FS9.I know very little about computers - apart from installing a few simple add-ons, programs, etc.Any thoughts/advice?http://online.vatsimindicators.net/916312/3.png

Greetings.First I would like to state that I have minimum to moderate computer knowledge/skills though I spend anywhere from 3 to 10 hours a day on sim flying/forums(lurking as they say)/websites. After about 4 years of this(first year was CFS2&CFS3 exclusively) one might question my limited progress. However---I recently purchased a high end Dell XPS(stand alone, fly only)system. I have many addon aircraft, but have not loaded any scenery or mesh yet. I have tried every conceiveable combination of settings for all sliders and have basically decided that the best results are, more or less, with most maxed out (autogen dense). Sight distance is at 100mi & clouds(3…

I'm buying a laptop with widescreen 17" tft screen and wondering:would the 2dpanel be stretched to fill the whole screen, of would it be drawn in the middle of the screen leaving two empty bars on both sides?the resolution would be something like 1400*800 or similar rather than standard 1280*1024....thanksLuca

Before "investing" (sounds more justifiable than "spending"!) what verges on an almost obscene amount of money on a new PC for FS9(.1), I have been researching this already very well-discussed topic online until my head is swimming. I'd appreciate some kind of a summary from people here. I have my pretty definite ideas, but would very much like to have them backed up by opinions from some of you regular experts before I go ahead and part with my cash! Given all other specs as equal, which one of these combinations would you go for in order to achieve best overall FS9 performance - I am thinking of smoothness and ease of texture loading just as much as frame rates? I am as…

I have recently set up dual monitors on my computer and hooked them both up to my Geforce 6800 graphics card. I am running in horizontal span mode which allows acceleration on both monitor and little frame rate loss. I have my forward monitor as the forward view and I wanted my side monitor to be a 45 degree view but the only problem is I can not get the views to wrap seamlessly. I have tried panning the side views, I have tried virtual cockpit views, I have tried moving the view around with Active camera but no matter what I try I can not get the two views to line up with the correct perspective. Wideview seems to be a good program to use to accomplish this with multiple…

Poll: what's the standard resolution (if using a LCD) or the max usable (i.e. decent refresh rate, if using a CRT) resolution of your monitor? And what's the resolution you actually use with FS9?I think 1280x1024 will stick with us for years, considering the steady decline in CRT demand and the fact that even 19'' LCD usually have 1280x1024 as standard resolution...
