Gentlemen,I am about to order a new laptop. I want to upgrade either the processor from 2Ghz to 2.26Ghz or upgrade video from Nvidea 6800 Ultra to 7800GTX. Funds prevent both upgrades. Which would be the better upgrade from the FS2004 perspective? Thanks,

i have to replace the HD that contains my Fs9 Folder complete with all it's add-to's; payware and freeware. To complicate matters, the HD is Partitioned. Can the Fs9 Folder be 'cloned', or similar, by a program such as Norton Ghost or Maxtor Maxblast?Any help will be appreciated.KenSomerset, England

Hi again all, I do hope I'm not imposing upon your knowledge and generosity too much but I have another puzzle.During answers to my previous post, it was suggested I look at a freeware program in the library here, "Reality XP Tweaker" (I think that's the right title). It was very informative and one of the pieces of information suggested that the FS9 setting "Render to texture", (I think under Hardware Rendering) isn't usually necessary. Therefore, always looking to increase efficiency on FS9 I turned it off - cleared the check box. The problem was that I could then NOT load the sim. It kept shutting down after displaying the little warning box saying there was a serious …

Hi,I have the latest Omega 5.9s (have tried Catalysts) and at night, with runway lights and aircraft lights, my fps drop from a comfortable 25, to 5fps with serious stutters. Is this my graphics card on it's way out or is this an fs9 problem? I have re-made my fs9.cfg also but to no avail. Thanks for your help,Athlon 3200xp1Gb pc3200 DD400ATI 9800 Pro 128mbRegards,Alexander Martin.-----------------------------------TMPRADIO DJOnair Monday - Friday 1900GMT @ http://www.tmpradio.com

Hi,I'm not sure if this should be in the hardware forum or not, but I have a problem. Moderators...feel free to move this if it's in the wrong place. It started recently that my display becomes corrupted. Not just in FS, but it can happen anytime.. even just when running the desktop.Sometimes the display is fine, for today as an example...perfect all day, until I ran FS. See the screen shot attached.I am running a P4 2.8 on an Intel 865PERL mainboard with 1024 ram and an ATI 9700pro agp card.I have several thoughts on this.Could it be the drivers? I was using Omega 5.9's but then in an attept to cure the problem swapped to ATI 5.9's. Maybe it's the 5.9 that is the problem?…

Hi all, I've learned a great deal by reading this site; and received a lot of help when I was sorting out my present set up sometime back.Currently I have: AMD Athlon 2700XP (socket 462) Processor on a K7N2 Delta Series Motherboard. 1 Gig RAM (not sure what make) Aeolus nVidia Gforce FX 6800 LE 128MB DDR card.Running Windows XP Home2 X Hard drives with FS9 running exclusively on it's own hard drive.19" Flatscreen CRT monitor 1280X1024 ResolutionI'm not budgeted to upgrade for another year or so and am pretty happy all round with my FS setup, however - I understand that my Mother board could take a larger Processor - up to 3200 I think. I'm told the larger (3200) processor…

I read in the forums here about hyperthreading and how if you turn it off it can give you better performance. Well the problem with my setup is I can't find any "off" setting. I only have 1-5 and AUTODoes 1 mean it acts only as 1 CPU?I have an epox motherboard, AMD FX-55 chip, running windows XP Pro SP2Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi, me again. I need a little insight on getting FS running better. My system is as follows:Pentium P4 3.0 GhzAsus P4P800VM MoBoRadeon X700 Pro 25MB AGP8X1gig PC3200 RamOn Board SoundI have finally gotten everything all squared away with my new graphics card but I am still not happy with my frame rates. What I would like to know is if anyone can give me a few pointers on tweaking my system. I reduce Windows XP to almost bare-bones before running FS, and I use Ken Salter's FSAutoStart to run FS at a higher priority and defrag the memory. I am running the card at AA4X and AF16X, and the sliders in FS nearly max, but not quite. In the Seattle area in the DF A36, 2D coc…

New 81.33 drivers are downloadable from www.guru3d.comOnly had a quick chance to try them last night, but I have suddenly started noticing subtle variations in light intensity and visibility I haven't seen before. Also, very smooth at higher levels of AA and AF on my GF6600GT.Anyone else want to try them and see if it's just me?Allcott

HiI have an AMD Sempron 2800+ processor. Now when I was checking the properties on 'My computer' I see that it is running at 1.99 Ghz. I am not sure why it is not going at 2.8Ghz. Have I missed something? Or am I being crazy?ThanksGasman1

Hi!Edited to correct typos and grammarI'm thinking about the configuration of my next FS PS. So I decided to go with Athlon 3500+ or 3800+, Abit AN8 Ultra (NF4 chipset) and a good X800XL Video card (Sapphire, HIS). A friend, told me that, NVidia chipset with ATI Card might have problems. On the other hand at ABIT web site, ABIT has only ATI based video cards.Q1: SHould I be concerned about NF4 + ATI video ?Q2: In case I choose to go with NVidia , should I go 6600GT (12 pipelines) or 6800GT(16 pipelines) Keeping in mind that FS is much CPU dependent. Done an unexpected upgrade to the system, I now have:Intel P4 3.4 @ 4GHzAsus P4P800-e Deluxe MB (800 MHz FSB)2GB OCZ Gold DDR500 (2x1GB)Currently running an ATI 9800 Pro (128MB) but looking at the two above boards. Anybody using either of these two boards? How do you like 'em?Not sure if I really would see much of an improvement. Sort of like the idea of the All In One features so willing to take a step down in performance (but I would think the AIO would still out perform the 9800 Pro).Opinions, comments?

Hi,I have posted a few threads to this board re my new PNY G-force 6600 card that was going to improve on my old 4200 no end.In fact, for me , it was a nightmare of crashing to desktop and flashing quadreants on screen as we I approached high density.I thought I had cracked the problem, but the crashing program started to come back, so I exchanged for a new 6600.Same problems again, unless I took settings back to where I was in old 4200!!So, I have given up, and excahnged 6600 for Nvidia 5500 OC 256 from BFG.Guess what? It works, first time, 25fps, setting way above what I had originally, textures all Very High with weather 3D etc etc.It is also

OOOPS! So excited I forgot to give instructions. Here are the steps:Set ASTT_NA to 0 in the registry location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetContro lVideo{5A61609A-036A-4D32-B447-F0E42DA9714D}00005A61609A-036A-4D32-B447-F0E42DA9714D this number is different for every one , you may have multiple numbers at the location because of multiple driver installation but only one is active. To be sure just change the value in every one. This enables the option in the CCC tray iconNext create the key ASTT as string(REG_SZ) and set it to 1(REG_BINARY works too) to enable adaptive AA. Hi, I just got a Radeon X700Pro AGP card tonight. All my racing games run great, and flight sim looks great and runs nice and smooth... that is until it locked up. The display locked, the sound kept going, although stopped responding to throttle imputs. Also, CTRL+ALT+DEL would cause the sound to stop as if it went to desk top, but FS remained on the monitor. Whats the deal with? Anyone have any clues? Second, my CH throttle quadrant is giving me some issues too. The number one mixture lever does not give any imput. Setting it as a control works, but switching over to FSUIPC, the data is at 0 and doesnt respond to movement. Also, in the game control screen, the g…

Do some of you have bought a recent PC equiped with an Intel Dual Core processor?I would like to know if it has an real impact on the Flight Simulator performance. As far as I know, FS is not designed to take advantage of the Dual Core technology (no multi-threading), but I may be wrong here...If it really increases the FPS, I may upgrade my PC to this new technology. Thanks for any info.Eric

I have a home-built machine: P4 (478) 2.66G, 1GB PC-2100 in an ABit BD7II motherboard (845-E chip, limited to AGP*4). This is an old machine now, and I haven't done wuch to upgrade it in over 3 years. Video card is an ATI-9800 Pro 128 MB.Thinking that large changes may be coming in technology in the next year, plus not knowing what FS10 will demand, I'm wondering about what may be a good "interim" hardware tweak. Would another motherboard / memory combo (preserving the P4-2.6GB) be a relatively cheap way to upgrade resources, or maybe a new video card?Any suggestions would be appreciated.Bruce.
