Ok..I had a 2.1 Speaker system that had a decent Subwoofer..But it looks like my woofer has gone south on me. So this may be a good time to buy a decent Speaker/Sound system. My Asus MB came with realtek inbuilt sound system..which was pretty neat actually..except it gave me this screechy sound problem. So I moved the Audigy 2 Z card from my Dell over and I have that Screech problem solved.So...I was looking at various speaker system. The one I hought would be really good is the Klipsh systemhttp://www.klipsch.com/products/details/pr...#specificationsBut its a tad pricy... however, From the Audiophile side...Klipsh is a good speaker company. They make some really good hig…

Hi All, Just a little info about my problems with ATI software and a ATI capture card (tv) Yes I know has nothing to do with FSX but hear me out. First off ATI offers upgraded software for it's TV TUNERS which I installed and thats when all went bad. The TV TUNER failed to function . I un installed the software and that when all #### broke loose. I contacted ATI on line and after several days they sent me a link to a software that ran to clear the register of the bad software. Which it did not do. but they did also send a problem reporting tool that I found to be very useful in that it shows all items in the register. What I found was that the original software wa…

  5. I have successfully inserted a custom resolution setting of 1680x1050 for my widescreen LCD using the nVidia Control Panel of drivers 91.47 for my 7900 GTO card with the ADD (res) function. However, I cannot add two more custom settings that I know are standard for 16:10 aspect ratio monitors because the control panel produces an annoying popup saying that it cannot be added. If I "un-hide" the option in the nVidia driver control panel "Hide modes this monitor cannot display", one of the two resolutions I wish to add appears.I understand there is an app called PowerStrip that allows you to instal custom resolutions but I am wondering if I do that, is there any risk I coul…

  6. I just figured it out--reduce the resolution! My frames were collapsing in cloudy or rainy weather after spanning on a 24" and a 20.1" LCD and my res was 3200x1200x32. So I reduced it to 2560x1024x32 and frames rose by 30-50% in all weathers and views. What a huge diff and really you cannot discern a degradation in imaging anywhere. Now I can fly through a t-storm to hand land the PMDG 744 using the VC all the way down without a stutter. I am really pleasantly amazed by this. I thought you HAD to have the highest possible res with large monitors, but not so. This is on my eVGA 7900 GTO card.Just in case it helps anybody else.JS

Hi there,I'm in the process of buying a new rig. I originally had configured it with two Raptors:(Extreme Performance (RAID-0) with 2 Identical Hard Drives 300GB (150GBx2) Gaming Western Digital Rapter 10,000RPM SATA150 16MB Cache WD1500ADFD)I have no idea about Raid0 or 1 or 0 but I'm wondering after reading posts about data loss if this is the way to go? Will I gain a whole lot by using those 10,000 rpm drives over 7,200 using FS9 and FSX only? I don't play any other games but I'm a hardcore simmer.I'm getting a C2D 6700 processor with 2GM 6800RAM and a 8800GTX, would 7,200 drives be a bottleneck to that type of system?Any help would be greatly appreciated.Cheers,Peteht…

I decided to give MS a second chance and attempted a reinstall of FSX (which, by the way, took an agonizingly slow 40 minutes to accomplish). I start it up, and it fails to find MSXML 4.0. And with that, over the past 2 hours, I have tried everything under the sun to fix it including all of the solutions on this board, on Trdragger's blog, on Google etc etc etc to infinity. I will now spend the other 20 minutes it takes to uninstall the game and try again next year when they release that oh so great miracle patch that everyone is just wishing and praying for. Maybe then it will be worth it. Feel free to flame me or delete this thread, I just had to get this off my che…

I am building a new system this week, and will be selling my old parts. A friend at work wants to buy them off of me, but I don't know what to charge for them.Asus P4PE moboP4 2.53 GHz512 mb RAM PC 2700ATI Radeon 9500 ProI certainly don't want to stick it to him, but I also don't want to give it away. A fair price is what I'm looking for. I know that these parts are ancient by computer builder standards, but they will make a decent computer for net surfing and what not. Any suggestions? Thanks,Tim

My computer is 3 years old, I have Radeon 9700 Pro Card and I never updated the drivers - ever. So, I figured I'd do so - not hoping for a miracle - but saw no difference in FS9 anyway. Question, does the latest driver REALLY add anything noticeable? Especially if all is working fine. I am from the old school of if it aint broke - don't fix it.What's your take on this for a non-computer-guru?

I am currently running an AMD FX-55 CPU. I've read a lot of good things about the Core 2 Duo chips, especially how easily the 6400 and 6600 overclock on the stock fan. I am having trouble finding "apples to apples" comparisons with my current CPU as far as what this upgrade would do for FSX in the end. My questions are, 1) Out of the box, which core duo best compares with the FX-55 for speed, and 2) Which Core 2 Duo gives you the most bang for the buck when you consider stock cooler overclocking ability? Thanks!

Hello. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this.It seems to me I read something awhile back about problems with USB 2 ports and GoFlight's modules. Something about them not being compatible together and that any 2.0 ports had to be switched to 1.1 mode. The specifics would be for FS9 but this is the only hardware specific forum I can find here now.If anyone has any knowledge about this I would be very interested in your feedback. Thanks very much!

When I was at the AVSIM conference I saw a demo of FSX and it looked very impressive. No stutters and the it looked like most of the bells and whistles were turned on. I was wondering if anyone who attended the conference knew what type of hardware FSX was running on and what the scenery settings were set to.

I recently renewed my license for Zone Alarm and received a free copy of something called "Ashampoo Magical Defrag". Roughly speeking it runs in the background and when you system is idle it starts to defrag then stops/pauses again when you start working again. When I installed it my disk was about ready for a defrag but this thing seems to be doing its job well leaving me with one less thing to do. It's using about 20MB of RAM on idle but I haven't noticed any change in PC Performance.http://www.ashampoo.com/frontend/products/...2&idstring=0044Anyone else tried it? Doing what it says on the box and I'm happy. $12.99Andrew Brown

I have been having a very frustrating problem with my new computer. The computer is an AMD Athlon64 Dual Core 4200+ 2GB of RAM, GeForce 7900GTX. It is brand new, only received it last week. From day one, it has been randomly shuting down. Even on the first day I had it, before any programs had been installed, it was shutting down. There is no pattern to it, it is completely random. It even happens when I'm not touching it. I have turned it on, not touched anything and it will shut down. At other times, it will run for hours no problems. After about 5 attempts, I finally was able to complete an installation of FS9, and I can usually get that running for about 1 minute and …

Hi everyone.I am running a Dell 8300, P4 3.0 HT enabled, 1 Gb RAM, 120 Gb SATA HD (came with the system back in 2002, so prob quite dated), Radeon X800XT Platinum Edition.Amazingly for a system that is 4 years old, it still runs FS9 pretty #### well, with everything maxed. I have recently done a complete system format, so aside from FS9, its pretty empty, thus not too clogged up with countless programmes that never get used!I won't be getting a new system for at least a year, so am thinking of one last upgrade for this old workhorse. Its had two previous upgrades, the X800XT, and also a memory upgrade. When I did the memory upgrade, which was straight after I bought th…

AllThis is an excellent in depth article on the nvidia control panel. It explains in detail every setting. Understanding these settings and the combinations available has allowed me to gain a few more frames. Of course there are sacrifices to some degree. It is worth the reading just for the understanding. I benefitted most by lowering the Image settings from High Quality to the Quality Setting. Many of the other settings are not available when the High Qaulity setting is used. This is where I had some options. This may be old news to some but thought I would post to help those who may be new to Nvidia graphics cards.I know there were some restrictions when posting URL's b…
