  1. Right now, I am using an ATI 9800 Pro. It is a great card, but when I turn up AA and AF settings, my framerates drop way down. Is there a card on the market right now that will substantially improve my performance with AA and AF in FS9, with practically no hit in framerate performance? What are your suggestions? Is there a sweetspot in performance where throwing more money at a card does very little in helping improve performance? I'll take speed over IQ.RHAMD 3800+ (2.4)1Gb DDR SDRAM80Gb HD (8mg cache)

Hey everyone. Just registered here to say that i just upgraded from 2GB of RAM to 3.5 (I put 4gb in but only 3.5 is recognised) and this did wonders for my framerate. I am now able to play with all settings on high and the res at 1280x 1024 or whatever it is with a steady framerate of 20 most of the time.I still need to do some more testing with it, but I'm pretty sure it helped.the rest of my specs are:7800GT 256mb vid cardopteron 165 @ 2250mhzlotsa hard drivesCheers,Owen.

Not really hardware related, but doesn't really fit in any other category either.Somehow I got what appears to be a BHO leading to a page called 'iesecure.com'. There's also a flashing icon in my toolbar that says critical system errors. It looks like it also placed a tool bar in my IE that can't get rid of.I've run a full scan with both defender and mcafee but it didn't find it.Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.Edit: Looks like it also goes to virusbusters.com

  6. Due to getting a new PC, my trusty old Sidewinder Precsion Pro no longer works, so I've just bought a Saitek Cyborg Evo.Installed Joystick and installed FS2004 + the 9.1 update.. but as yet no other add-ons.Now.. when I'm on the tarmac, the rudder twist works fine (rudder moves full amount & nosewheel steers). However when I'm airborne.. rudder twist just gives a TINY movement of the rudder left or right. Not even enough movement for the aircraft to change course.I've twiddled with sensitivities & stuff, checked in the Testing section of calibration, checked on other default aircraft. Always the same.. the rudder works on the ground but not in the air.Any ideas?

Okay folks, the first true DX10 hardware (not software rendered) game videos are just now being released showing you the power of Vista, the DX10 API, and DX 10 Hardware using the Geforce 8800 series of video cards that were just released. This is clearly a next generation leap in technology! Its up to Aces and MSFT to see what they can do with this bag of tricks to elevate the FSX engine into the dynamic, smooth, flowing environment they envisioned, and with this new hardware and some brilliant coding it can happen! Here are a couple of links of a DX10 game running on DX10 hardware. Not a rendered cut scene or trailer, but ACTUAL IN GAME FOOTAGE. I think these might be …

I have just moved the paging file in XP to my second SATA drive. I was told it was a good idea. However, im not sure if I am seeing an increase in performance in FSX. Not that it matters, although I certainly do not want to degrade performance. Was this a good idea? I have 2 gigs of ram, and have it on my second drive, along with some other backup files. I have it set to windows managed size...your opinions are gratefully welcomed. Thanks in advance.Danon O.

Ati crossfire 1900xtxI use two monitors , one as primary, one in extended modeI also am running both 9.1 and fsxHere are my finding and commentsGeneral comment and watch this. In crossfire mode, you cannot run two moniters, No extended desktop!. The cards will only run one primary screen. In my setup ,I am always using the second monitor for vatsim, squawkbox , wx etc. I was shocked by that limitation.fs 9.1The frame rates are good , not amazingIn extended moded 1600x1200x32 the res is good but even stillin crossfire mode the frame rates were not that much better than when not in …

I updated the drivers on the motherboard. I could not find any updated drivers for the DVD ROM drive. I made sure my drives are set for D…

Having had FSX running on my old machine (jeez its 2 years old) I cannot really enjoy the experience. I have tried most things but I am lucky if I get 14fps in country areas around the UK complete with stutters. I have tried numerous tweaks but no great results. My main restriction is the fact that I have an AGP card, albeit once it was a beast, so whatever I need to do effectively involves swapping the motherboard. The current specs are:-P4 3.4 HT 800fsbSapphire ATI 9800xt 256mb2gb Crucial ram1 x 200gb Sata HD (XP pro/FSX/FS9)plus other stuff but 100gb left1 x 80 gb Sata HDIntel D875pbz moboI am considering replacing this with the following:-Asus P5W DH Deluxe i975X Sock…

  16. Just curious... Why would a dual core cpu like the new Intel Core duo's run so much better with FSX than my Intel P4? Isn't it using only one of the cores while the other is sittig idle in FSX? Example, I have a P4 3.4 yet from reading threads a slower (say 2.66 dual core) will run circles around my P4. Is it the cache?thxClutchProject 9 Dragons

OK, in another post I mentioned that I may have stumbled upon something on my own Core 2 Duo laptop that improved stutters ALOT !Do the following ( especially if you also use Activesky V6.5 ) :1. Open Task manager and go to your FS9.exe process2. Right Click "Set Affinity"3. Check only CPU 1 to run FS9 under.4. Click OK and close task managerDo step 1-4 for Activesky ( ASv6.exe ) process but choose the "other" CPU so that each of them run on seperate core's ( FS10 on CPU0 and ASV6 on CPU1 or vice versa )For me this eliminated stutters by about 90%, especially in built-up areas !Please let me know your own findings !Hope this helps someone !Cheers !:-wave

I gave it a few min and the smell was getting worse. This time.. I was thinking.. There is a fire inside and I was trying to figure out..how one would put out a PC on fire..without damaging the rest of the components.:(And then it hit me... My dinner was on fire. T…

I have a 4.5 year old athlon xp 2000+ and radeon 9800pro. Even before considering fsx, I'm ripe for an upgrade so it is just a matter of when. With the upcoming opportunities for ACES to improve the performance of fsx (possibly meaning better dual core support, dx10 and vista), I had convinced myself to wait until at least the middle of next year. However after reading the CPU roadmaps for 2007 on Tom's hardware, I'm reconsidering. As Tom says, Intel is not bringing out anything as revolutionary in 2007 as core 2 was in 2006. Yes there will be Kentsfield, but I'm seeing that as the enthusiast segemnt with a price to match. My budget would not stretch much beyond curren…
